yes...it has crossed my mind. especially since I could really use the V8 rear flares too...

but that's a lot of body work that I don't want to do right now, gotta put the extra funds to building up a motor worthy of such flares first 8) In the meantime I'm going to find a way to pull those corners in so that they match with the 200 flares. They can move in, I just don't currently have a way to hold them in.

and I'll slap the first person who says swap the motor and tranny over to the V8 body :slap: :P

If I die, it's because I was welding a bumper strut. Wish me luck, nice knowing you all. After watching mythbusters try REALLY hard to make one explode and to no avail, I'm confident that I have nothing to fear. That doesn't mean however that I will deny the possibility that my bumper shocks are filled with something explosive. Good thing I got health insurance yesterday!! :bashtard:

I didn't die, but flux core STILL sucks, who knew it would a year later. Got it attached enough to bring home and use a real mig on it. Friend of mine took this pic while we were at waterfest, makes me giggle a bit.

How about attaching the plastic sides onto the bumper, mark and drill holes in the inner fender, then shoot screws in from the inside of the fender through the plastic mount, thereby pulling the corners in..

Sure, but drilling holes in the fenders, and screwing self-tapping screws through to hold the bumper sides in is ghetto.

And also a great way to invite the Red Terror, not good!

So is notching out our fenders and the host of other mods we do to make the bumpers fit! We are driving 19 year old cars not new S5's..The reason I mentioned it is because I adapted Jetta 2 big bumpers onto my scirocco 12 years ago and that was the only way to keep the corners pulled in flush..People at car shows didn't consider it too ghetto. If there is another way to do it please post it up, after 20+ years of working on vw/audi I still learn something new almost daily and am open to suggestions..
Also, it is common sense to coat any exposed metal to keep the Red Terror out(although it inevitably prevails without any extra help from us :D )..
You could alternately install small machined bolts from the bumper side of the mount, then drill holes into the fender and have the threads go through to the inside and put bolts and washers on them to pull in the corners..
Or just duct-tape/silicone them in place :lol:

casey, I just got your v-mail this morning. I have a terrible habbit of leaving my phone off/at home all weekend and avoiding the real world. I was around doing not much all day yesterday too, would have gladly shown you my car. I want to check out the 200 with v8 bumpers too! When are in town again?

maybe next weekend - still up in the air, but uhh....pulling the motor this week. The car looks faster than it is and I have a big problem with that :-D

...and to add a bit to the V8 bumper story, I ended up welding the V8 bumper mount to the 200 strut here in NY with a crappy flux core welder. I thought I had them on straight but when mounted to the car, the bumper was pointed upwards and the mounting holes were nowhere close to flush on the frame rails. Nevertheless, Drove it home with 2 of the 6 bolts holding the bumper on.

Got it home and on Saturday took it off to see what the deal was. The V8 bumper mounts were on straight, but the mounting surface of the 200 strut is not perpendicular to the strut at all :? The way they mount points the strut upwards a few degrees, hence the crooked bumper. I then cut the V8 mounts from the struts and started over.

With the 200 struts bolted to the car without the bumper/V8 mounts, I then placed the bumper back on the car to get an idea of how the V8 mounts would line up with the 200 struts with the bumper sitting level. Bad news is that they sit at a rather severe offset - nearly 3/4 of the strut is no longer contacting the mount! I ended up tacking the struts and mounts where I liked them, pulling them off the car, and welding them at this crazy offset and gave them some support with gussets out of bar stock. It sits nicely now and seems strong and I still have functioning bumper struts!! YAY! Now I think I'll pull the motor :-D

Is the car here in VT or are you working on it in NY? Can you do me a huge favor before you pull the motor???? I need to know which pin on the n75 gets constant switch 12v. I think with the key on one should see 12v and the other should just be open. If you cant get to it, I think I can figure it out from cyrus's car, but I'm not sure his works right.

I'm doing the motor work in NY since I have a garage out here and spend 71% of my time here. I'll check on the N75 for ya

haha thank you sir! means a lot coming from the guy who made the 4000 that got me started with all this audi BS :P

In other news, picked up some V8 tails in perfect shape at the scrap yard for $50 8) I like the way the painted tails turned out, but OEM quality wins over

As for the rear V8 bumper, it looks like a bit more of a project to get it to line up with the 200 fenders, so that's hitting the back burner. Maybe someday it'll get the full V8 fender treatment...plus 1.5"? heheheheh, I hope so :drool:
