Feels like I'm headed in the right direction with correcting my cold start stall. It happens when after start kicks off. I read it's from insufficient (fuel?) fluid film in the engine. I was adjusting my warm-up enrichment table loads upward and was only getting really rich once the successful restart occurred and lambda started reading out.
My approach has been to slightly increase the warm after start cylces and greatly increase the cold after start cylces before turning off as well as increasing the colder 2 settings of after start enrichment. That should help build the fluid film during excessively cold conditions. Although it's on 25F here in erie today.
I put conventional 20w-50 in recently as well. I wanted my oil pressure to be above 2 bar when hot if possible and that worked.

I'm having that same problem. I need to look into fixing it with the MS.

Ya for the longest time I figured it was the warm up enrichment being too low %. Seriously like 2 yrs I thought that lol. Now that more troubleshooting info is available on VEMS online I see topics about it being fluid film build up issues from the after start curve. Hopefully the wording for these terms isn't too different in MS and you find them

Yeesh. Just like everytime I've ever tried it, launch control only results in one loud backfire. I'll have to try it with w/m injection off as a test
BTW my cold start stall is solved now using the after start adjustments

Problem solved using above method

Julian just a heads up. Conventional 20w50 doesn't move for shit in the cold. That leaves potential for possible engine wear if cold enough.

Ah man. I asked a guy about that who was using the same and he said he had no problems. Idk I just spent alot on this oil lol. Thanks for the warning. I'll weigh my options

Dam I was really trying to stick with conventional on this motor. Looks like 5w50 only comes in full synthetic :(

Okay so, maybe others have better experience, but I know that conventional doesn't flow nearly as well as synthetic when cold, and I know 20w 50 is thick as fuckin honey.
I ran 20w50 conventional for like 2 years when I had my 20v in, even over winter. Not sure if I ever did any damage or not.

I definitely see where you're coming from. The words "engine damage" are cancer to my mind atm so I'm not taking any chances.
You using synthetic after your rebuild? I'm afraid I'll get more oil in my catch can if I switch.

Yeah I just run mobil one 0w40 european blend. cheap and effective, same as what I run in my s4. easy.
I do get oil in my can pretty often. I need to route my drain back to the sump.

5/10-40 seems good in the winter. I like conventional in mine - when I used synthetic it would smoke terribly on start up. With conventional it's rare unless i'm pulling some serious G's and shutting it down a little hot. I think it's just masking a turbo seal leak or minor ring blow by - for now I will run cheap oil and enjoy.

Also I love reading your thread I think you have one of the most successful budget builds i've ever read on a forum.

I've always thought about that euro blend stuff. I got some castrol gtx 5w50 syn from advance auto for half off plus another 20% off online. They're discontinuing it so I may buy more lol. About $29 with tax vs the 5 qts at $10 each in store! Insanity

Dude thanks! Only thing I can't provide is definitive results LOL. Also it doesn't feel like it's on a budget haha

It's done I went full synthetic afterall. Castrol 5w50 and holy crap the car actually cranks normal again lol. It sounded pretty sad and difficult when I started it to warm it up before the change. It's 10F out afterall.

So it's finally time to lose the stock fuel pump lol. Dw300 incoming. May try ethanol even, not positive.

You want to switch to E85 in winter? You are asking for tuning pain. Your warm up and afterstart will go through the roof.

I was thinking about that. I really am not looking to switch fuel right away especially of I can't start the car and it's bone-chillingly cold out and starting settings are messed up! I am definitely overdue on a fuel pump upgrade though 8)

DW300 oil pump is in hand thanks to a fellow member! Just got this for the holset as an experiment for effect on idle oil pressure:

So power was hit and miss in first gear with the old fuel pump. Comes on hard and consistent after the new DW300 went in
