So I took this summer to actually enjoy driving my two 4K's around Anchorage. It's been a couple years of projects with lots of scope creep so I decided to release the reigns and actually rally these beasts around.
The black car is rock solid, insanely fun with absolutely no issues. This car could be a reliable 350 whp daily driver as far as I am concerned. Just fun as hell.
The white runs perfect but I did run into an issue right out of the gates with the drive train.
I finished the AAN swap on the white car in the spring. The car was very fun, fast with a fully rebuilt K24 7000 and an original MTM 1+ tune. The only blaring issue was that the 4th gear syncro was done. I also blew the input shaft seal the first week of rallying around Anchorage. My buddy who works at an import shop said they had a "known good" 4K trans they had set aside after a totaled car came through the shop. So I figured I would throw that trans in when I removed the other for the input shaft seal. So I swapped everything over from the original trans, installed a new seal and threw it in.
I got the "known good" trans installed and everything buttoned up. I went to change the fluid out and realized there was no drain plug. I called my buddy from the shop hoping that he had drained the fluid for me. He hadn't, come to find out the trans had sat in a connex for 12 years like that. As you all can imagine, the trans would't go into any gear without extreme pressure. I got the trans to start somewhat shifting through all the gears by driving for a couple hours at a time as well as 4 fluid swaps. I made some adjustments to the linkage to no avail. Also, the 3rd gear syncro is non existant and the car is just a pain in the ass to drive.
So this piece of shit 016 in the white car has forced my hand. I have everything for an 01e 6 speed swap: GBE 01e 6 speed (with all plugs), IROZ full kit, 7A clutch/flywheel 3+, passenger front 4k axle.
I will not be doing a 6 speed swap into the white car. This is going to be a double trans swap. The black car has a perfect 016, every syncro and gear is smooth. My plan is to remove the black cars 016, swap it into the white car and install the 01e into the black car. It looks like I'll be pulling back the reigns on these beasts once again.
Scope creep already in progress. YAY

Shiiiit bout time for an update.
What did you coat the exhaust manifold /turbo/DP in? Is it Cerakote or something?
It looks rad and does it have another purpose? Keep temps down in the engine bay?

Yeah the black is Cerakote and the silver is powdercoat.
You nailed it, it looks rad and keeps the temps in the bay down.
