07K into B5 Avant

Post by stt »

Looking for details on dropping one into a B5 chassis. Any links to builds? I'm gathering info. so that I know for which items I should keep my eyes peeled. A few months ago, I picked up a gutted B5 Avant sans engine and transmission. I'd like to build a fun/track car. Based on a little research, the engine fits better than the AAN. I love I5's and have a 92 S4, and 91 200 20v. Yes a 2.7tt is easier, but I've BTDT and I5 may be easier to maintain.

Hank's done one. Issam would know a lot about it, and he might be easier to get a hold of.

Other than that, all I can say is post lots of pics and keep us up to date! Great project idea.

It's probably similar to everything else. I know Hank was designing his oil pan to fit this chassis as well. Other than that it's just a matter of building everything to fit. Pick up an 07K and see how it fits in there, they are only a few hundred $$. Then you can see about re-using radiators, motor accessories, intercooler placement, etc. Budget in a TIG welder for the project and learn to use it. It might sound like a lot, but being able to just make the part instead of stressing out about finding something is priceless. Intercooler tubing, coolant piping, exhaust, brackets, motor mounts, etc. Get the critical stuff from Hank like the pan and oil/coolant block, flywheel, then just start building everything else if you have to wait.
