Someone with a C4 Avant, I need some dimensions

Looking for some dimensions of the rear hatch of a C4 avant.
-width of hatch opening (basically between the taillights)
-width of hatch glass (straight across bottom on the inside for easiest measurement)
-height of hatch (straight across the inside for easiest measurement)

Just some crazy daydreaming...

hahaha that's an interesting thought... I'd be willing to bet that in the long run it'll be cheaper (nevermind easier, that's no comparison) to just import a b4 avant. From the looks of it there's no way that'll work, but you can dream - it is still 'murica...

The C4 is about 4" wider. As much as I love the RS2, you'll be ahead of the game building a fast C4 or an RS2 sedan.

So much for inspiration! :D

So, the one thing that I think would help with the C4 is that it's got a straight edge that would match the trunk cutout/taillights of the 90. The RS2 has a B3 rear so it has that cutout around the taillights. The door frame looks about the same angle so you could use the C4 glass. You'd just chop the B4 C pillars off and blend the C4 C pillars and rear roof on. Keep the B4 trunk frame for the most part, just chop out the center and rear glass.
Yes the C4 is wider overall, but I wonder how much wider the actual hatch is from the truck for the B4. Maybe a chop down the middle and trim to narrow it would work.

I'm sure once I get my eyes/hands up close with a C4 avant I'm sure I'll remove the thought from my mind, but for now I will keep dreaming!

For now just rough exterior measurements should tell me if I'm crazy or stupid enough to think about trying it :D Thanks!

I have a b4 quattro avant and a c4 a6 quattro avant, there is no way the c4 rear will work, it is a lot wider than the b4

Roortube posted some dimensions in my MG thread: http://motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=51355
Between the taillights, it's only an inch wider which could be accommodated for. Still a LOT of work and probably just a pipe dream.

Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a b4 avant?

It's not legal in the U.S of A

That sucks, so even if you imported a body you couldn't make it legit? I really like my b4 avant, going to go with a 2.5tdi for it

Our govt is pretty touchy about swapping VINs. It is irrational since i can build a "Ford" model T with 2 blown big block V8s and be street legal in most places but swapping parts onto a B4A shell is a no no. There are a few RS2s in the country and one being build on a S2A chassis but I'd say they all are skirting the law, until they are 25 yrs old then we can import anything.

People import JDM WRX / STi front clips all the time so importing an B4 Avant rear would be costly but not impossible.

From there, this project should consist of grafting the rear third of the Avant to the Sedan body. No Big Deal! ;o} But at least you get rid of lots of obstacles like cutting glass and sectioning lift gates and what-not.

Yeah, it could be done. I think I posted a list of part numbers to convert a sedan to an avant on QW like 2 years ago. IMO, building a "RS2" Sedan is the way to go since they only made 3 anyway. Eventually you'll be able to import a S2A or RS2 for less than the fabrication time of a conversion but the market will never be flooded with RS2 sedans. Also, remember that Porsche did not want to build RS2 sedans because they would be too good 8-)
