Hagerty insurance

I'm adding the coupe to my insurance and Allstate called me to tell me that Allstate is not really the best option for that but they partner with Hagerty.

Anyone here use this? I know they use agreed value and I want to add the Cabriolet to them too.

A. what experience have you had with Hagerty?

B. what value would you place on a somewhat crappy coupe with a V8 and a really nice Cabriolet with euro front and rear bumpers, Rs2 headlights and a 5 speed?

Do they have a maximum mileage provision under the terms of insurance?

What about terms dictating the way you drive the car, as in not for daily duties and only for tuning/maintenance and car show purposes.

Those are some of the things I remember my broker telling me when I looked into Hagerty, but it could all depend on your region.

They said that they required a low mileage annually. 2500-3000 miles - which is fine for my cabriolet and likely the coupe too.
Not sure about the reason for driving the car.

I should be getting a quote today so I'll let you all know how it goes.

At first glance, Grundy requires a garage which I don't yet have. I'm hoping to build one here in the next year though

I do have Hagerty. They made it easy for me when I wanted my car registered in another state besides CA. I have been happy with them. Of course, I have no had any accidents or anything.

Talked to them today. I need a garage for hagerty to insure. They said they have a $5,000 minimum value and to insure both cars for that was $628 for a year. Not bad, unfortunately I have no garage

Hagerty despite quoting insurance for my '95 90 on their website, wouldn't insure it when they called to actually process my application. They said it wasn't collectible.
Same thing with Grundy, which is much more of a pain to apply for.

For Grundy, you have to mail in your application with pictures and a check, which in no way guarantees you anything.
I tried to apply for Grundy on my 90q, 968, and 190E at the same time. I sent in pictures of all and have secure garage space for all.
Their response 4 weeks later (thankfully I didn't need insurance right away):

Declined due to:
1.) Cars not collectible (I could see the Audi as not, that's what Haggerty said; not sure how Jim got them to agree)
2.) Cars not garaged....Are you kidding me? I said they were both in a locked garage, which they are. Maybe because I took the pictures in the driveway they thought they aren't garaged?
3.) Not all househould drivers listed...I live by myself, I don't know where they got that information. I listed myself as the only driver.
4.) Cars not restored...That was never listed as a requirement.

I never called them for explanation though since their letter and application processed pissed me off. They were about 1/3 of the cost of Hagerty for the 3 cars.
For now I just have regular insurance...I need to start shopping for collector again though.

Yeah, they basically said they would have to agree based on pictures that the cars were worth $5k each. I think the cabriolet would qualify for that but not the coupe.

Someone told me that strangely the only two cars that Hagerty or Grundy (can't remember which one) considers collectible of this era are coupes and cabriolets.

Who knows.

Either way, I need to get insurance on the coupe - I'm trying to drive it this weekend. Allstate keeps telling me it's a bad VIN number because they don't have "coupe quattro" as a model option in their system. weird. I need to provide the title so they can "force" it in

Grundy was really easy, although I had just finished the fender project and had all kinds of great pictures of the car. They were actually pretty excited about it, but I also meet all of the checkboxes for recommended mileage, garage, etc. Driven only to "events", which is 99% true.

You are going for a stated value policy right?

I use Safeco for all my Auto & Home insurance. Four cars, one house. I looked into doing an agreed value policy with Hagerty and Grundy a couple years ago and found it to be surprisingly expensive (and by that I mean more than comprehensive and having it listed as a daily driver). The problem is, blue book wouldn't nearly cover the $$ invested in the thing or what I think a reasonable fair market value would be for it.

A few weeks ago I was making some changes to my policy and mentioned to the Safeco rep. that the coupe was a "show car" which only goes out on nice days (since that is the reality these days) and described some of the modifications it has. Ended up getting it insured with them as a "special use" vehicle with an agreed value based on my estimate of fair market value, and my premium dropped by ~$200/year. I'm pretty happy about how that all turned out. May be worth checking with your current insurance agent to see if they offer something similar.
