Marc's 4ktq

Project progress on personal cars for me has been at a snails pace lately due to living vicariously through my customer's project builds at my shop. but, this weekend I lit a fire under my own ass to start working on my 4000 - which incidentally is the first car I owned almost 20 years ago (feeling old - yep, I just did it).
Anyways, for those that dont know the car I first converted it over to an MC 20v turbo on stock CIS. then upgraded to EFI. then did a 'ghetto' 20vt swap using a 7a head and NG bottom end also on EFI. the car was then sold to doug who transplanted the motor into his el quantumino. I then bought the car back from Doug several years ago where it has sat on my lot patiently waiting for me to do something about it.
Two years ago I took the opportunity to buy a 200 20v as a parts car from a friend. the car had a recent built motor that we did for him, so I had an easy path to getting the 4k back on the road with a 20v turbo engine.
fast forward to today, I pulled the car into the garage to sort out the wiring. got the fuel pump working and the ecu powering up. I plan on test firing it tonight after dinner.
Still needs a bunch of work (Hank, ship me my downpipe will ya!

), but having it running should make a nice push to get er' done.
Good to be back working on personal cars. its been a while.

Just in time for me to ask you to ramp up work on the 200 LOL

Looking forward to what the future will hold for this project! Oh, and this is the worst project thread ever. Not even one picture!

success on first fire up! yay

ok, some pics. warning: graphic neglect content. when I say this car has been sitting on my lot for 2 years I mean it. it needs a bath something fierce.

about half an inch of general crud that will need washing. there is paint under here, I swear.

so, a plug for an awesome tool we use in the shop. "Power Probe". Came in handy tonight identifying what was missing on the 3b interconnections with my stock 4kq harness. If you do any wiring or electronic troubleshooting work whatsoever, go buy one. well worth the money.

beginnings of a to-do list.

gotta put some different struts up front. Doug sold it to me with some quantum uprights which are 4x100. I have ground control coilovers in the rear so I'm just going to re-do 4kq GC coilovers up front. have the uprights and just ordered the coilover parts.

it'll get some new wheel bearings and probably some fresh powdercoat before going back in the car.
didn't run it for long tonight, missing lots of things (like oh, a downpipe) but now that I've got some momentum to get it back on the road it should go pretty quick from here.

Oh and nice work! You're insane enough as it is, can't imagine you with momentum and motivation. This thing will be complete before we know it.

Dammit Marc, you need to publicize your awesome customer projects more! I think you told me about that TR before. It'd be so cool to get some video of it driving when it's done!

General plans, past the up and running at RS2 spec?
And not to hijack the thread, but, twin turbo Ferrari. Anyone interested in a TT 348, check out thesmokingtire on youtube, Farrah did a nice bit on one. I love the license plate the guy has lol

Wow, this takes me back. I have a video somewhere of you running the car at an autox, maybe still 20vt? Very neat that you have ended up with the car again, but Doug took great care of it.

Very excited to see this going back together. One of the original turbo swap internet pages I read way back when, and one of the first MG guys to go 20vt...inspiration for me to do my own ghetto 20vt.

I have the custom JE pistons you had made for your first 20v (that the PO melted, unfortunately, due to crappy tune/detonation) plus the shot peened rods.
This was the 4000 that started the slippery slope that is my 4000... I just haven't moved past the 20vt part of it
