Cooling Options

Post by WI-3B-200 »

I'm the 3rd owner of a '91 200 20VTQ. Its currently barfed all over my garage as every time i touch it i find something else that needs to be corrected.
My biggest issue is that the Maine radiator leaked took it to a radiator repair shop and they said it was unfix-able and he didn't have any supplier that had the correct part. Talked with the Local Audi dealer and they informed me that they have zero parts left for that car in north america.
I have already been to the local parts store and they ordered one that would fit but wouldn't let me run the secondary radiator.

So to cut to the chase.
Where do I get the correct radiator?
Others that have a 200 20VTQ I have heard it both ways do you or don't you need the secondary radiator?
e-bay Chinese aluminum to sketchy?
have be-cool or griffin custom make me one for huge $$

Need for the second radiator is dependent on conditions and how hard you're pushing the car. My car always ran cold, even in the Florida summer, so I'd say the main rad is up to the task. I bet you could find a mishimoto that's close enough...

People run without it with great success you would be fine make sure your fans are in good working condition change your fluid to be a good new mix, and if you're paranoid get yourself a better thermostat or take it out completely if you are super paranoid.

That is my plan if the day comes...

I have a source for a radiator that will allow use of the Aux radiator which is brand new in box. Not 100% sure what model it was for, maybe an early 5000. Genuine AKG (Audi) but it ~1" shorter. I am currently running one in my 200 20v.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll see if they are willing to sell them.

Pretty sure Griffin makes a sweet aluminum one.
