Strength of b5 dual mass flywheel?

I have been rolling this question around in my head, and hoping for some insight.
I am still trying to nail down a clutch for my tdi 90q. Currently my options for flywheel and clutch combos are
-2.0 fwd 80 flywheel with 228mm spec stage 2+ clutch
-2.0 fwd 80 flywheel machined for 7a clutch with some sort of 7a style 240mm clutch
-b5 1.8t dual mass flywheel with spec stage 2+ or southbend clutch

I am leaning towards the dual mass since I have one, and I am thinking the dual mass might help damp out some of the diesel vibes.

The question is....how much torque can those hold? Someday i might want to do a bigger turbo and be able to make some halfway decent torque. Would I be asking for trouble?

I always here people bitching about dual mass flywheels, but have never actually witnessed them failing.

I have some first hand expierience with a some high hp B5/b6 cars with a dual mass. GT3071 on a 1.8T was the biggest I've seen and the flywheel never missed a beat. We have a hunch that the dual mass might have contributed to this:

But its a far reach, I'm sure you will be fine. Especially because you won't be spinning nearly as fast.

yea, i wont be anywhere near 3071 hp, and certainly not revving high at all. I might make 300+ ft/lbs someday though. I think i am going with dual mass. I hate vibrating drivelines. My truck has as single mass and in first and second it rattles the gears sooo bad.

do you still want that article to make a b3 80 fwd 3a flywheel work with a 240mm clutch?

That's what they do in stock tdi's.

Old and grumpy.

stock aeb dual mass and clutch was hit and miss in my b3 90q 1.8t with 310ftlb, sometimes it would slip through all gears then for a few month be fine.. it never exploded though :D
