ha! i forgot about that..... i'll take care of it here soon i think... i had the black top ones from my alpine car in a box from years ago, and figured i'd do the other side. i think i might lightly smoke the front lenses to make them blend in a bit.

i also would like to put a spoiler on the front end.. maybe a factory bit or the 2B one... or maybe my V8q spoiler getup which i really like.

that stuff is etched into the paint! :( i boogered up the factory 4000 numbers, so if anyone has a clean one they'd sell me, lemme know! it has to have the silver still on the faces, not all black. i think this car will stay badged. the alpine car i like debadged

Derek I've been following this from the start and I gotta tell you...... other than the signal lights not matching  I can't imagine a nicer 4KTQ

You do extraordinary work and are left with an extraordinary car.

I have a spare 4000 emblem you can have. The silver has faded but it's still all good.

Incredibely nice car, Derek!
I drive the same car here in Belgium, only with a 2.0 JS engine, but also in Zermatt silver.
Maybe I once open a topic on motorgeek, although most of my mods are visual and not mechanical.

I have a question on how you blackened the chrome strip around your front and rear window:

Did you also paint the rubber around the front and rear window, or only the plastic strip in the rubber?
Did you take out the plastic strip that is in the rubber, or did you tape the parts that didn't need to be painted?
Which products did you use? Primer? Mat black or semi-gloss black?

hey braeckie,

The window rubbers on a quattro are already black, yours is a FWD 90, which have the extra chrome strips, the european 90q's have also the black window rubbers.

:stupid: mine came in black.. all i did was run some black dye over them to help revive them a bit.

Did you dye the rain gutters as well or use paint?

the trim on the sides that i painted is all plastic or metal (door frame), and i used duplicolor low gloss black on the window surrounds.

Derek, that looks phenomenal! Not crazy about those wheels but man that car is sweet. Why Audi never built it as such...

Not to mention there is also the insert and non insert rubber versions.
My 80q 2-door has the non insert type like the coupe and I love it.

The insert cars were either chrome or black.

Keep in mind, in Canada both FWD and quattro had silver from factory.

Hope this helps.

*sigh*

well, something's up. first off, she's puking coolant out the coolant res. cap if i get any boost in her.

second, she's running like an old tired dog. throttle response is way laggy and takes forever to boost up. i put the stock cams in yesterday because i figured the 7A's were robbing me of low end power and response where i normally drive it at, and i got nothin'. i double checked all the cam timing and belt, it's all dead on.

and thirdly, i put a breather port in the back of the valve cover, when i cover it with my thumb, and the other crank case vent on the drivers side of the engine, it starts pouring smoke out the exhaust, and i know it's not supposed to do that at idle for sure.. :(

looks like my ring job is probably biting me in the backside. i guess i'll have to find a new block to build up and stick all this other gear in along with some new pistons (which are fine, just i need to bore the block and then these ones won't fit).

"well, something's up. first off, she's puking coolant out the coolant res. cap if i get any boost in her.
" sounds like exhaust gasses.

Sounds like a bad HG. The smoking when you plug the breather isn't suprising, the turbo can't drain so it pukes out the hotside, but the coolant thing isn't right.
