Exhaust needs to run down car, for the sake of my eardrums on the street and to run in the true street class if I want to at the track.

that small straight between collector and first 90 i dont have.. also makes turbo sit alot lower.

unless you are looking for the extra height.

if you need more pics let me now.

I am on the 4th header in my urq! You get more inspiration on every one!

How come you 4 cylinder guys are against putting the turbo where the 5 cylinder guys do? It seems like you would cut a ton of length and weight off the header.. cuz that's why you swap in 4 hangers right? The weight ;)

Post a pic, I'm being lazy and dot want to search, lol. I assume you're talking about putting it nearer to the inner fender well.

In this case I want it there because I already cut the passenger floor out and made a tunnel above the passenger side Trans mount so that I can fit a 4" pipe right there. That way I can run the exhaust right over the tie rod, and right down that tunnel and down the car.

the idea here is to shoot the pipe right down there....
that will avoid me trying to get a 4 inch pipe wrapped down and around the axle, 3 inch is fittable (and ive seen many do it on here) but 4", even if it WOULD fit...i like to make things easier then harder.

will your hood close with turbo being that high ;)

i can fit my hand between the top of thet turbo and the hood at the moment.

i was a little worried about that for heat/expansion, but i guess we will see. any lower and id need to start smashing the frame rail to get the collector to clear. its tight, because if i then bring the collector in closer to the valve cover, and also lower, then youd be taking the turbo off just to take the valve cover off. no bueno.

valve cover clearance, tight but doable, especially because i did away with the valve cover studs and went to bolts. just need to make sure i can remove the thing if i need to without removing the freaking turbo, lol.

Image
number 4 runner

Image
the very start of the number three runner. you can see why i had to set it up the way i did. if i moved the collector further away from the motor, the runners would hit the frame rail as you see. if i were to move it up as well as out to clear the frame rail, then the turbo would hit the hood.

Image
now with the hood clearance, i lied a bit....it clears, but i can't fit my hand in there, haha. I'm not sure what will happen with heat/expansion, but i guess we will have to see. the motor/trans mounts are solid so the motor doesn't move much at all. maybe when its all done i can pop the turbo flange off and see if i can machine off a wee bit on the top of the collector to bring the turbo down a bit and gain some hood clearance.

i like the tunnel idea more and more.. i like your tin work hehe

Ya. It gets tight down there. Hopefully I'll get the number two runner done tomorrow night so I can make sure the intercooler pipe is going to fit in there too. Don't go stealing my firewall/tunnel cutting idea now!

i actually got it all sorted this evening.

ended up popping the turbo flange off and grinding down the collector at an angle that brought it further away from the head and lower into the bay. now i can close the hood and get my hand in there between the turbo and the hood with room to wiggle so it'll be mint.

thanks for the links though.

got the manifold pretty complete today, at least the runners are done. just need to figure out how i want to run the intercooler piping and then i can see where i want to put the waste gate and either dump it or reroute it. came out pretty much balls on as i wanted it to. need to just put a few bungs here and there for the get probes and the back pressure sensor and then the waste gate tube and it will be complete. oh, need to get some thread inserts in the bottom two holes of the turbo flange as well because of the angle i ground the collector down at there just isn't a possible way to get a nut/bolt in there, jet nut even isn't going to cut it.

now the question is to either run the down pipe over or under the steering arm. it will fit either way with room to spare, but I'm still just not sure HOW i want to run it. i like it under the arm for looks but i don't really want a tight 90 right out of the turbo.

What are the specs of your wheels on the turbo you are running right now? I got a new snail on the way and I wanna compare notes with your setup.

its a precision 6765. t4 exhaust housing .81 a/r.

PT6765
Compressor Inducer 67mm
Exducer 87.5mm
Turbine Inducer 74mm
Exducer 65mm

over the winter i am going to get their new CEA '66' wheel put on the thing which they claim is good for 3-500rpm earlier spool and 40-70whp more. the STM "ricer" evo went high 8's with the thing so it makes a shitload of power.

do i NEED the extra HP and spool to run what i want, no....as aarons car has proved that you can go high 9's with 600whp at the weights we are at. BUT, for a few hundred bucks at this point in the cars lifetime, you aren't going to to get that sorta power spending that money elsewhere.

For sure. The PTE exchange programs rock.

The 94mm exducer on the HTA compressor makes me nervous coupled with the smallish 72.5mm 78 trim turbine.. I hope all that compressor can all fit past the turbine.

so, by a show of hands, who's gotten a 4" pipe successfully down the car, over the rear axle and out the back? i remember when i was first messing around with the exhaust on this car a 3" pipe seems tight over the axle, i feel as if a 4" may need some magic to fit.

cant you exit right in front of the rear tire in true street?

im not exactly sure. the cars I've seen vw/audi wise....todd pavics' mk3 gti, timmy mullens mk3 gti vr6t and the USP s4 vr6t all had exhaust s exiting the rear of the car.

i tired to look it up but it seems nscra.com had changed and now doesnt have class listings and rules any more. there is a link for rules details but it just takes you back to nscra.com homepage, maybe they are in process of changing the site over.

used to be http://www.nscra.com/truestreet

im assuming its becuase of nopi now owning part of the nscra

It shouldn't be too difficult if you make a small "tub" for the. Exhaust bend where it goes over the axle

you mean cutting the floor and welding in a piece that will allow for more clearance over the axle?

at that point i may just oval the tubing a bit to get it to fit before i did that to be honest.
