Hey man, I wasn't trying to start a dispute. Sure, I kind of disagreed with you, but big deal. Its a forum where we all share our experiences. I wasn't trying to step on your toes or disagree. I was just trying to share my experience on the matter. Don't take it personally.

DE80q wrote:That should sound amazing. But I was warned that a 20vt in a small chassis with only a rear muffler is quite loud. Im going to try just my starbro(I know I spelledbthat wrong) and see how bad it is before I put in a Borla resonator.

In my experience, the small chassis is quieter.
We had two cars with Identical build engines and exhaust systems.
1) 4000q with built 3b to RS2 spec. Single rear straight through muffler. Dont recall Brand.
1) 91' 200 built to same RS2 specs. Same chip, turbo, everything. Same rear muffler.
Both cars were 3" and Catless.
The 91' 200 was noticeably louder. We attributed it to the curves up and over the rear axle and that nice 180degree curve it makes at the back. The Type 44 Chassis is pretty much a straight shot all the way back. Far fewer curves.

I ran a Borla on my 4000 20vt quattro, and it droned a bit but not bad at all. My CQ drones much more. I did have a cat on it though, I figured it was the turbo that cut down on the drone. Before I did the 20vt swap it droned much more. (Same exhaust before and after)

Scored huge today at the yard. Fresh 1990 200tq came into the yard. Had a 1.8BAR spring, 710n BPV, and a chipped MAC-14 ECM. Im keeping the bpv as a spare and selling the spring/ECM. Also picked up the proper ISV and a bunch of other random tidbits.

Installed the ISV and it idles MUCH smoother. Still only pulling like 10" of vacuum but Im installing the adjustable cam gear tomorrow.

fyi i have an offset key that is iirc 3.5ish degrees offset. if you find that your adj pulley works best at 3.5 you can swap to an offset key and sell the pulley to recoup cash.

Alright.....so I threw the adjustable gear on. Very little if any change. The idle seems to be stronger, but vacuum is still only 10-11". Im thinking its time to throw the JT cam in.

Changed the plugs to NGK bp6et. The other plugs were covered in black soot. So the thing was definitly running rich. With the proper ISV, I set the duty cycle to about 43%. Just a tad rich. It was awful before. My vacuum gauge also quit fluctuating while holding a steady rpm. Kinda scared me before because the guide indicates that points to poor valve seating.

I did notice, however, that when I retarded the cam, idle vacuum dropped to about 4-5". I advanced it 5 degrees and got 10-11(?)" of vacuum at most. Would this be a strong indicator of the cam causing my symptons? Perhaps I need to drive it around and monitor fuel mileage to see if I should swap cams

Im confused as to what the problem with vacuum is? I hooked everything up (including boost/vac gauge), set the duty cycle, ensured everything was working properly (fault codes), and drove it daily :)

Did you have a cam? Im under the impression that I should be pulling roughly 15+" to be considered normal. I guess Ill drive it around and see how it acts

My set up was a stock MC1 long block (20k on rebuilt head after I got it), K26, QLCC chipped ECU, 2bar WG spring, Urq IC, and downpipe. I never knew or thought what the vac should be at idle, I just let CIS do its thing after I adjusted a few things and set the timing. Worked great :)

your butt dyno will probably tell you how your new cam tune is running and if you should swap cams. you need to drive a stock mc to compare what makes you happier.

I'd say make a thread asking for someone with a stock mc1 to check and see what they have for vacuum at idle. It is possible that 10-11 is normal for this motor. If it isnt normal to have low idle vac like that then i'd say swap in an mc1 or 2 cam and see what that does, dont use the jt cam if you do a swap since its designed for a NA motor hence its completely wrong for an mc1.
If that doesnt find the issue just use deduction while going over things that could cause low vac... Plugged exhaust(IIRC you dont have a cat to get plugged) is probably not it. Vac leak(you went over this already). Cam timing(not it), Ignition timing(make sure its set correctly). AF ratio at idle(you've been playing with this so i bets this isnt it). All thats left is compression/cylinder leakage. HTH even just a little.

Thanks Dan. Philip2 is going to be sendiing me an MC1 cam when I buy his shift boots.

So drove the car to thr shop this morning. Had good all around driveability but seemed like a loss of mid and top end torque. Most likely due to the advancement on the cam. I did a 4th gear pull and got fuel cutoff at about 12-14psi. AND THEN BIG MOFO FLAME UNDERNEATH THE CAR!!!!!!! I think I went a little more than a tad rich on the A/F

The O2 should keep things in check, mixture wise, once things get warmed up.

*hides under desk* I never did relay my pump but always meant to!

Maybe grab the MC2 cam out of the 200 you found at the yard?
