I'm not positive on all this, but..I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm posting inaccurately.
With using a AAN serp belt system, I'm assuming you are planning on keeping the AAN hydraulic pump and bracket because they are such a good design together. But, doesn't it have quite a bit more pressure that your rack might handle? A friend placed a 3B pump and bracket in his UrQ and it blew the seals out of the UrQ rack. Can you step down the pressure, back to the UrQ pressure necessary? The 034 short ratio rack is capable of the higher pressure, as would be any CQ rack, I believe the CQ 7A Hyd pump is about the same pressure as the AAN.
Are you keeping A/C via the AAN pump?

Sorry, no AAN components here, it will have regular belt pulley (7A or 3B) and stock Ur-q steering pump/rack.
For now no A/C although I will leave that option open for later.

Martin, this might be dumb question, but without the trans there do you have something in place holding the motor from tilting forward right now? maybe that's where your 1/4" will come, at least up top where the TB cover is.

Yes, I have the snub nose mount turned upside down. But yes, I do not know exactly where it will sit untill I get the tranny in there. I can guestimate assuming that the carank is horizontal.

If you find you can't get that IC to work I might take it off your hands if the price is right

I think a smaller intercooler with better airflow is better than a bigger one which will pass no air thgouh it... Im glad you are trying to make it work withouth cutting the core support though, this has been an internal battle of mine for a while now.
I almost lean towards fitting a very thin and efficient radiator in front and using a large intercooler over where the radiator normally goes. Not sure if anyone has had success with the I5's but I know there are some V8 powered cars in that configuration.

It's looking GREAT! :woowoo:
When you install/ re-install the carpets, do you use the original carpet pad or something like DynaMat or nothing?

I use nothing under the carpet.. I have done that before on my previous cars and I enjoy a bit more road noise.

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt, 6-speed 01E is in!
So... with help of Craig Cook (Highlander) got the 01E in the car and were able to verify few things.
Ur-q has different shaft lenth side to side. Pass side is short and drivers side is long.
Pic borrowed from Hank's site.

The long shaft will not fit any longer.
The pass side shaft fits, but could use a 5mm spacer.
It doesn't make much sence since my original measurement of flange location suggested we would have 20mm to play with. But I'll take it.
Here it is all bolted up..
Excuse the dirty CV but this is just a preliminary fitting.

The drivers side which originally had a long shaft will not work anymore.
On this side a short shaft needs to be used with what I measure to be a 25mm spacer.
Here is the gap to be filled. Again excuse the filthy CV.

The good part is that spacer is much easier to make than shortening a shaft.
Next came the shifter.
I used the entire Ur-q shifter rod with selector and tie rod.
Here is the extension piece (1/4" thich bar) to allow tie rod to work properly.

And the money shot in neutral.

There is an issue getting the 6th gear engaged as the shaft hits the floor, but that can be fixed using the proper 01E selector which I wll modify to allow use of Ur-q rod.
Here is a pic of the stock 01E selector and Ur-q on the right, the Ur-q ball needs to be transfered to the 01E part.

I'll see if someone can make me couple of spacers for the shafts.
As usual, more to come.
Cheers

I another potential issue.
With MTM and phenolic spacer and tranny attached this is how the engine sits in the bay.

I kind of doubt the throttle will clear the hood.. doh!
Might have to take that spacer off.

My Custom manifolds look just like that, and htey clear fine. It is really a lot worse than it really is. I would wait ti ll the hood is on to make a choice.
Also, on the gear selector.. I shortened mine on the 016 to a shorter throw on the shifter. I just cut out .25" to lower it. You could do the same thing with the two you have there. Just cut the 01e shifter portion at the base, and weld on the 016 portion. It is cast, but weldable. If you lower it like that, you may find that it does not hit the tunnel as well.
We call those toofers around here.. Gaining two things with one cut and weld.

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt, 6-speed 01E is in!
Looks like the linkage will work afterall. I had to shim the transmission mounts 1/4" or so to lower the gearbox and moded the shift selector as per above to fit the original 016 shifter rod/bushing.
Here is reverse, note how close the rod is to the transmission casing!

Here is second, much better!

Here is 5th, closer to the tunnel!

And finally 6th, it's so close that without lowering the gearbox 1/4" there was resistance getting in.

Also had a chance to look at the intercooler, the way the engine sits now I have plenty of room for the IC! Woohoo!
More to come.

So what ball are you using on the end of the urS arm? Shoot, I though lowering everything woldmake it possible to get i off the tunnel, but the casing may not allow that.
Mike, Should I send two or three sets of spacers out to Martin?
I keep trying to figure out a way to get into this Canadian threesome of SQ builders

this is all very tight... any concerns when the engine and tranny move in their mounts?

I am pretty much solid mounted, but oem mounts may be a concern.

John ,
I like this idea of us pooling our resources, as long as we are all happy
at the end off the day, I'm all for it. It's a nice feeling helping each other out.
I think more people should pool their resources in certain situations.
There's no need to re-invent the wheel every time. Were all here on this forum for
the same reason.

I used the ball from 016 on the 01E selector as per this pic.
I'll take a better one soon, basically cut off the 01E ball, drill a hole to mount the 016 one, done.

Bit of an update, last couple of weeks have been slow, but, managed to get the HVAC unit back in and front brakes on. Pics to follow.
Next are fuel and brake lines.. those should be fun without a hoist..

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt, 6-speed 01E is in!
So.. I've had a very productive weekend.
Fuel lines are in and all hooked up to the fuel rail.
Pump is in with all the other stuff, all that is left is supply (044 pump uses a threaded connection of some sorts) and electrical supply.
All hard brake lines are in and proportioning valve hooked up as well.
Just need to finish rear brakes and I can pour the fluid.
Crank pully is in (thanks Mike).
Next will be the IC setup. Giving me a headache just thinking about it.
I also used an S2 driver side motor mount to allow mounting of the aux water pump.

Good work Martin. This weekend I flogged the URQ quite a bit with the 01e setup/spacers, and everything held up fine with no complaint. I think we have a winner. I trimmed the drivers spacer demension a bit, and will post up the final measurement I went with the next time the car is on the lift.

Thank you!
I was waiting to see how you made out in Vegas, great to hear all worked out well.
Seeing the amount of work you did in such short span I am really motivated to get mine back on it's wheels and going brum brum.
Looking forward to the pics/vid from the event.
