UPDATE: intake manifold work has begun!!!
IM from head to TB
-034 MS r32 headflange, cnc’d for perfect transitions from ross oval tubing to rectangular r32 ports
http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-com ... 18162.html- HS tuning, r32 intake manifold gaskets, cant use oem o-rings,
http://www.hstuning.com/home/tt-mkii-20 ... old-gasket-034 MS r32 phenolic spacer
http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-com ... 19672.html- Ross Machine Racing , oval runner
http://www.rossmachineracing.com/ovaltube.htmlvelocity stacks
http://www.rossmachineracing.com/ovalstack.htmland plenum flange
http://www.rossmachineracing.com/univer ... plate.html- Sharpe Products, plenum material, 6” diameter 6061 0.1875” wall and 6” dia. Hemispheres.
That’s as much as you get to know for now, the feed from TB to plenum is just about dialed, ill get some pics snapped of how that will lay out. There will be very even cylinder distribution
So we’ve got the head flange finished from porting/polishing and is ready for runner welding. The oval runners have been cut to length, now just to make them dead flat with the Bridgeport. The plenum and hemisphere/plenum caps have also been cut. On to the PICS!!!!

Good work Tim. Why are the stack even? Are the runners not unequal length?

Unlike the early 12v VR's, which had unequal lengths in the manifold to make up for the head runners being different, the 24v's have same-length runners in the intake and the difference is made up in cam phasing- IE. the rear cam has a slightly different profile than the front.

cam compensation in the 24v's

also if you look at some of the pics, you can see where the plenum and flange meet, theres about ~1/2" before we'd run into the coolant res area
because the VR motor is upright vs a 7a where its leaned to the pass side, theres less IM room, so a lot is packaging, and the cam compensation is there, and its not the main reason, but theres been plenti of power made with this style IM

Aha, I see. I guess going turbo, the motor would not be as sensitive to the unequal length runners.
Really looking forward to see your IM. I dig sexy IMs

Not quite true Chris. IMHO what is important for N/A motor (in terms of IM) the same is for SC one. The N/A motor is also "boosted" with atmo pressure.

there isnt a sensitivity issue with the unequal runner lengths, the cam compensation / durations, allow the banks to get equal amounts of AIR, air at combustion chamber opening, which is much more important to have equal than the distance the air is traveling.
its the equal available air supply per cylinder, whether it be runner length, or a form of compensation to vary cylinder bank airflow, the banks ahve the same amount of available air

I thought Chris is talking about AAA engine with equal lenght runners, i.e. so called SRI.

Short Runner Intake? This engine is the 24v, Ivo.

24v yes
runners are still unequal, cams compensate
no major updates on this one, mostly me jsut tryign to figure out how to plumb all the coolant and oil, as the motor being mounted sideways makes it a bit harder.
one of my summer jobs fell through, so im raising some funds to pay a debt before i continue getting any more parts on this thing.
buy some parts

ok, mini update
ill be dropping off my cylinder head @ ryans to get part of my IM welded up, from the head flange to plenum flange then we can put it back in car for a few
also i need to get my 034 24v vr6 exhaust flange machined, it wont even fit over the exhaust studs :curses: :frustrated:
so ill be getting the number 2 and 4 cylinder holes enlarged just a tad so the studs fit through them, and then enlarging the other cylinder mounting holes so that the manifold can expand. the flange is currently a single piece, i will be cutting it between 3 and 4 cylinder holes, so each piece is centered on its middle of three cylinders and allowed to expand under heat
i cashed in a few amazon credit card points and have 16an turbo drain weldon coming, a few small npt adapters and what i believe is the correct metric adapter for the holset oil drain

Well dang this is my 8000th post, damn
Ok well seems like a good time for an update
Ryan @ Higbee Fab. and myself finally got some time to get some more intake manifold work done. Since the last update ryan has finish welded the velocity stacks to the plenum plate above and below. We were initially going to just weld the back side of the velocity stacks, but as he has a mill, he welded the inner plenum side of the plate/stacks as well. Once that was all done, he had it pressed to dead flat and then we went and machined it flat and clean for the inside of the plenum. There are a few small pits but they will be filled and cleaned when we get back into it for plenum and TB feed welding.
We are using full hemispheres to enclose the plenum ends rather than rounded end caps, the ports on the VR are pretty close to each other. Soo close that if you look at the last update’s pics you can see the velocity stacks come about 1mm from interfering with each other. I wanted the #1 and #6 cylinders to have air equal to that of the other cylinders, so the larger hemispheres give the end cylinders the same volume to draw from as the others. Ryan milled the plenum plate nice and round in prep for hemisphere welding.
I got the head and IM lower back and its now in the car and has the endcaps and plenum clamped on, so we can continue work in the engine bay while knowing exactly what area is taken up by the IM.
the plenum has been cut and prepped for welding, fitment is almost perfect, we wont be welding it until it is perfect. endcaps are almost done as well, but we will be fitting the TB to plenum feed before anything above the plenum base is welded
On to the pics!!
