I never ran those Bosch plugs because I red about exactly what you described, them falling apart in the cyl.

Think I had a good haul today .

Super sticky tires which is awesome but I’m worried that they are slightly wider than the tires I had on there .

Things are going to be real close . Hoping I don’t have a rubbing issue . I don’t know how to roll fenders and I’m not wanting to risk cracking paint on this car .

I like how aggressive that stance is, if you can make it work.

Hank suggested the tri-tip Bosch plugs on my engine. Otherwise I'd start fine-tuning with the Bosch F5DPOR, since the raw data set with those plugs is the largest.

F5DPOR - trash
FR5DP - good

PRJ:
"You can use plain simple copper spark plugs at 1.50 a piece, as long as they are the correct heat range and gap.
Just change them every time you change your oil.
None of this platinum iridium <insert **** here> makes the plug any better at doing what it does.
It only makes it *last* longer. Meaning you can go like 80 000km on one set of plugs.

Make sure you have 5 bosch or 7 ngk heat range (1 range colder if you are doing 300hp per liter or E85)
make sure the gap is 0.6mm after you pass 250hp/liter. Below that doesn't even matter."

That's awesome info, thanks Chris! I did the same on my a4, used copper plugs (NGK) and changed them out every oil change.

It hasn’t rubbed so far . The suspension setting right now is 2” from bottom in the rear but almost bottomed out in the front . So if I drive it hard and it does rub i can raise it up.

I’m probably also about only a few weeks away from swapping to winter tires temperature wise . It’s about to start dipping below 40 F here

Nice haul :), those wheels give a nice aggressive stance.

The aggressive tread will probably go on for good in a few weeks ha

Yeah it’s looking good . No rubbing issues yet . It does go lower than what I have it but this is ok I guess .

Nice, might need some adjustment for when you get on full boost.

I added a bunch of weight in the back till I bottomed to the bump stops when I tested my new wheels to make sure but I'm on stock suspension.

Pat, so awesome that you made the trek to BBQ. Great way to break in your awesome car.

I was hoping I might run into y'all there.
But I'm going to tell you how much of a poser I am... I trailered the car down !

Everything is so fresh and not really proven yet, and I don't have as big of balls as Alexdgr8 and Sam stone to just throw the car together and roll out. But I had the wife and baby with me too so It made sense. Was about 23 hrs to and from . Third time I've done this trip in the last 2 years and the scenery was the best this time due to the fall colors.

The car did good. I think I put at least 100 miles on it in the desert including the climb up to the summit of Mt Charleston. Only casualty I've seen was the tensioner bolt for my PS pump Came loose - but due to me running such a short belt It didn't make any difference.

Now that I'm home I need to work on some more stuff. The following and probably a lot more:
Swap tires
Remove starter and increase the size of the reference pin / troubleshoot trigger issue
Find out why the windshield wipers don't work
and I need to check out the carbon canister deal and fuel tank, it smells like fuel fumes constantly but no leaks
*potential 01E swap??

Few updates .

1350 miles on the car now about . Still running 15 psi . I would like to bump it up soon but I need to get in contact with someone who is comfortable with tuning , and also I need to be mindful of my stock URQ transmission . And/or just be ready to put an 01e in.

https://youtu.be/gihOSvo6qs0

When I put the car together I made custom hoses for power steering and on the high pressure line to the rack, I did not know there is a restrictor at that time . I decided to try it anyways and for the first 1300 miles / 4 months , not a single issue or noise with the system. It was my understanding that without that restrictor it might groan but it hasn’t .

Now in Wa it’s about 40 degrees and I have started to heat some really loud noise coming from the steering that’s worse when it’s colder out . It comes and goes with RPM . Tried tightening the belt and that did not change anything .
I’m wondering if maybe the lack of the restrictor is somehow involved , so far it’s the only idea I have . It could make sense if the temperature outside is low enough to make the fluid more viscous . So more to come on that, I might try and put in a restrictor and see if it changes . It looks like the stock hose has a 5MM restrictor in it.

Also been working on making a header and and picked up another car by accident that it will likely go in , due to the engine being blown I think. It’s making a pretty loud racket from somewhere . I was hoping I could heat cycle it and lubricate the lifters a few time and get it to quiet down .

Header looks great, and my favourite is the bit about how you "picked up another car by accident." haha hate when that happens!

I have a 20v 90 sitting in my driveway due to an accident.

Header looks awesome, you made quick work of that after the collector was done!

Sometimes cars just follow you home . I was actually looking for a 4000 and found a really good deal but lack of time and life wouldn’t permit me to go get it .

I do have another 7A presumed good. In the next few days I will have to make a decision on whether I want to swap in the 7A and use the car as a daily or go straight to 20VT swap. The only thing stopping me from that is having other non-running project cars already

I’ve had some issues pop up on the URQ that need a little attention and I’d be nice to have something else to rely on for a while so I can give that some attention.

At a minimum it needs ,

R.Front wheel bearing
Driver’s side door handle quit
Sunroof re/seal
Fix window wipers
Cluster bulbs
Differential mount
Probably more tuning work
Power steering noise fix

Replaced the door handle .
Need to do passenger one soon, and I think it’s about time to bump the boost up I’ve put 1500 miles on the car so far . Maybe take it to 20 or so and figure out how to get the PID boost control tubing portion of the tune dialed in .
I’m also *considering* putting a mid muffler/resonator in . Since the car is pretty loud right now .

Some shots I got after work

Looks like you had some fun with her in her natural habitat. Love the pics! We haven't got any of the fluffy stuff in my neck of the woods yet. Keep up the good work.

Nice pics. Must be a great feeling. Newer cars are so numb compared to the small chassis cars.

Yeah I love the way these older cars feel.
Connected to the road , pretty light and nimble . You can’t find a car these days under 3300lb. Not even Japanese ones like Subaru STI are as light.
The URQ is best but 4000 is close second. They have always had that feel where I get in and just feel at home. the seating position and everything is just set for me. And with “a few” mods they rip, OK just kidding, it takes a lot to make one fast and to handle really well but considering the price of its not bad compared to other cars' pricing.

There are a few newer cars I really like but none that I can afford .
Ever since the rs3 came out I’ve been fascinated with it , due to the fact that it’s already 5 cyl and turbo (and I want a newer safer car someday for rolling around with family) I finally drove one , and I do think they did a great job with those cars as far as the handling feeling nimble for how heavy the car is , but It’s the price that stops me from having one .
I have a B7 RS4 and that is a really great all around package for what it is. under 20K for an "RS" car, Brakes are awesome , handling is good even with the factory DRC it's pretty flat. Sounds amazing and Revs to 8250 but the v8 n/a engine just leaves something to be desired without the turbo . Its plenty fast for a commuter though, good enough to get into trouble with. But everything on it is expensive, and it’s been a complete headache, recurring EPC and Check engine lights since Ive had it . Even Audi can’t fix it, after having the car for months, making phone calls to Germany and all that . Once I get some time to prove its fixed for sure it will be gone.

I've "looked" at the RS3 but have not driven it, strict guidance from my better half that my RS6 (or something) needs to go before I even talk about it... then of course there is the problem that I would have to call Hank if I bought one!!

So. Much. Money . That’s the main issue . Also the resale on any new Audi , especially an RS is pretty questionable . For example looking at RS4 and RS6 doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence . My 07 RS4 was just under 70K MSRP and the original owner sold it for under 20k less than 10 years later.

But yeah , also I agree the probability of being able to leave any 5 cyl turbo engine stock is like .0000000001%. But why would anyone want to. It seems fun stock but it felt to me like it needed more boost and a firmer shift.

I had to wait quiet a while for one to ever come into the dealer here. Most of them are sold before they even arrive at the dealer and they only get a few a year.

Anyway for now I’m stuck with old stuff like urq’s . For a fraction of the cost i can get a lot of enjoyment and the next one I’m going to build will be even better .
