Nice. Be sure to put that locating nut on the TB cover on because the little spacer behind it is floating free and could easily jump off and wedge itself between the belt an done of the gears. Wouldn't be fun.

Noise is a weird one...see if it varies with RPMs.

Confession: That wasn't the first time it fired up. I timed it like you said and got in the car after having filmed the 3 previous "first start" attempts and nonchalantly turned the key. I honestly thought it wasn't going to start....so much for confidence. When it did, I wish I had the camera rolling then because I was pretty happy. So I knew it was working when I filmed and I ended up making you look good!

Surely the noise isn't oil pressure related....but it doesn't make it while cranking, only when it starts running.

It sounds like a gnarly vacuum leak or an angry accessory. I am pretty confident it is the AC compressor. :wink:

I actually think it might be the PS pump since I think it changes a bit with rpm and it hasn't been bled, but it could be vacuum since none of the turbo line are hooked up.

I doubt I'll get to it tonight since it's my wife and I's 15 year anniversary today.

It sounds like lower timing belt covers that are hitting the pulley.

Mine made a similar noise after a timing belt job. It was contact between the camshaft pulley and rear metal timing belt cover. It got bent in the removal process since I didn't remove the camshaft pulley.

Congratulation on the 15 years and oh yea......getting the car running. Next time up work your steering back and forth and see if it effects the noise. Did you drain or break into the hydraulic system when apart?

Yes, I removed the reservoir, disconnected the pump and drained the hoses, but not the rack. I definitely will be digging into it tonight and I bet it's the PS pump not being bled.

Good news. It wasn't the power steering pump as I turned it from side to side and bled it out, but the horrible noise was still there. It definitely went to a much higher pitch when I revved the engine a bit. So, off came the ps pump belt and I pulled the timing belt covers only to have the noise stay. Hmmm...looked around a bit and found that the rear metal cover that tucks behind the cam shaft pulley was resting right against it. I proceeded to bend it off and bingo, no more horrible noise. Oil pressure is solid! No leaks anywhere except for the #1 injector. Time to put the whole front end back together! Back out to the garage!!!!
