So, bit of an update. Wife and kids went away for the weekend so I got some time to play.
It was a hectic schedule but got things done.
All wiring harnesses are in, carpets are also back in.
But, the main goal was to finish the engine assembly and install in the car.

Being a MOFW here are the pics.

Head on and tightening of the head studs.. I hear these have to be retorqued after 1000 miles?
Image

7A cover for the retro look.. ;)
Image

MTM manifold needed a bit of massaging to fit with with phenolic spacer, not much but enough to need a grinder.. :(
Image

Shifter option # 1 is full RS2 setup using the A6 shifter pedestal to save from cutting the floor.
This option makes it very easy on the transmission end, but still requires a bit of tweaking on the interior side.
Image

Shfter option #2 is 016/UrS4 inner portion, however the tranny end is a bit tricky.
Image

She looks very comfortable there ;)
Image

That intake is a bit close to the front clip, next step is to start getting that Intercooler in there, I think the one I got is bit too big.. we'll see

More to follow.

Nice Martin! The car is looking like it is coming together! Looks like another monster urq in the making. I will be interested in to how you deal with the 01e linkage.

Yes, I thought about keeping the hydraulic, but for simplicity sake I chose the vacuum.. plus I had all the parts handy.
If anyone needs any hydraulic parts I have like two or three complete systems now.. ;)

I think I've chosen the Ur-s4/016 path. I don't have any 01Es at the moments (all sold) and still waiting for the three to arrive from Europe so it might be a while till I have something to work with.

Then the driveshaft puzzle will commence as well.

Nice Martin.

Gotta say I was wondering how you were living with no urq. Must have been daily misery for you :-)

Looking forward to seeing it on the road - here and hopefully in person one of these days/months/years.

Looks great Martin!!!!

I'm really glad you went with the vacuum brakes.....much cleaner IMO, and less weight.

I can't wait to see this thing running.

Brilliant project.

So how different are the MTM and the Wagner IM?
I'd consider using one of them on my build, currently have all the RS2 IM, fuel rail, pressure pipe, ect!
What radiator you planning on using, or going to angle a stock sized one to clear the AAN oil pan?

So... tried to get the intercooler in... looks like I either have to move the motor back at least a 1/4" and move the motor mount down 1/2" or just get a smaller intercooler (the easy way out). I am still refusing to cut any of the original sheetmetal!

So, pics... here it's looking good.

Image

Not so good here, actually touching the cover.

Image

And no way to get the snub nose stopper in.
I also do not have a proper pulley, but it looks like it might just clear.

Image

hank, you have the same size and yet you somehow got yours in.
This IC is 28x9x2.5
I wish there was a 28x8x2.5 but the only size smaller is 28x7x2.5.

Comments, suggestions are welcome

Hi Jack,

I don't have a Wagner so can't comment on side by side.
ABY/ADU fuel rail fits the MTM no problem, 3B might but I haven't tied one yet.
I'll be using 034 alloy rad with RS2 shroud and 5kt fan.
The engine has 3B/7A oil pan so no need to tilt the rad.

is that at the stock length Martin, or is it at the 01e length without a 15mm spacer? Why not ditch the spacer and get a free 5/8"?

That looks a lot like my IC, but the updated bar and plate design. I wish I was working with a serp setup like you are though. I may bite the bullet soon and re-balance the assembly with the AAN setup. Why is the 9" too tall? Does it hit the crank pulley?

Transmission is not there yet, this is at the limit of the engine mounts, I might elongate them a bit at least 1/4".
My clutch setup is for non spacer application, so none will be in place once the tranny slipps in there (I hope).

I've decided that I'll lower the snub nose a bit which means custom design.. it will look like the sport one that's made of steel plate and a pipe. I'll try to find a pic of it.

Like Craig said, the IC will be toughest part of this project. Wish I had a tig welder and knew how to use it.. ;)
