Sunday I got the chance to drive another really cool antique car. 1925 Franklin 10C.
My grandmothers cousin was Herbert Franklin, who started the Franklin car company in Syracuse NY. My grandpa was the other motorhead of the family, and I spend A LOT of time in his farm shop building various different contraptions and repairing equipment. He always told me about Franklins, and showed me many old family photos with several different Franklins. He was always heartbroken by the fact that he had a chance to buy a good condition Franklin for $50 from my great great aunt in the 1930's when he was just getting started farming, and he could not afford it. Franklin went under in the 1930's and are extremely rare, I've been to a lot of car shows and never even seen one.
Then my girlfriends co-worker invites us over to her house for dinner. Her husband has an all original 1925 10c. This guy was so cool, he is in his 60's and has about 15 classic motocross bikes he still races, he has owned several audi 90's and a quantum synchro, he bought a new BMW 2002 etc. Needless to say, I enjoyed hanging at his place and seeing all his awesome machines.
He let me drive the Franklin. We drove for about an hour, it was so awesome. The car is so torquey. It has an all aluminum body, aluminum head and block, aluminum differential housing. inline 6 aircooled engine, electrically tilting headlights, etc etc etc. It drove so much better than other cars of the era that I have driven.
I can't believe how nice everything on it is considering its never been restored, engine never been apart. I hope he never restores it, its so perfect as it sits.

I made my first commute in the new daily. I start a new job next week with a 75mi/day commute at a company not in the industry and thus not so understanding of constant car antics and needed something more reliable. So I put my soul up for trade and ended up with this super clean 1 owner (

) '03 Golf TDI with a bad TB tensioner and crashed valves. Another few hundred and 4 days later and I'm (slowly) clattering along in the high 40s.
330whp B6 -> stock TDI =

Finally got done with the crap around the house. Many tiny things to fix.
Spent some time in the garage this week.
Sunday I picked up my CQ, to bring it to my new house's garage and put the new A/C condenser in. Got it home and the hood release did not work. Ughs.
Monday was too hot and I was flustered so I asked on a couple forums and a few clued me in on how to open it from underneath perfectly.
Tonight, I had to inspect why the wipers were loose on our XC90. I thought the nut on the wiper arm was loose... nope.. the wiper bracket was broke. It is still apart and getting a replacement tomorrow.
Then I worked on getting the hood open. Without photos it was a bit of guessing, but I got it unlatched in <2 mins. I want bring this to a local cruise in tomorrow, so I opted to work on the windows since if I put the condenser in, I would not have time to install it and fill it in time. Issue before I started: Driver window did nothing, passenger window would roll down, but rarely roll up.
I picked up the Bentley and took the lower dash pad down. Metered the window relay, which checked out fine. Then onto the door switches. everything there checked out fine too, BUT if I squeeze the shit out of the switch and bend around the wiring plug, they would work 100%...
So I left the arm pull off and zip tied the switches to the door panel. I guess I need to rebuild or replace the switches...

Spend the last few nights trying to button up the 03' S8. I'm "So Close" Tranny is in. (Rebuilt the auto, didn't do 6-spd swap. I really hope I did it right and it works when I try to drive it in a few days.)
Got the Timing belt on, motor sealed up. Brakes pads, rotors, Control arms, etc. Cleaned up a bunch of corroded aluminum, painted some stuff with POR-15 that I felt needed it. Old brakes are going back on for now until I drive the car and sort it. Then I'll rebuild the Brembo's and rear calipers and put new rotors on it. I don't want a sticky piston or something warping a brand new set of rotors.
About 5-6 of the heat shield studs broke off when I removed the heat shields to inspect the body underneath. (East coast car, replaced Subframe due to rust but I'm amazed how well the A8/S8 Aluminum body has held up. Almost no corrosion of any sort anywhere. Only where there are metal nuts pressed into places for fastening is there galvanic corrosion. But those dang Aluminum studs break easily when a Steel nut is corroded to it. Anyhow, I got the engine back together and finally forced myself to go back under and deal with it. Used an expensive epoxy adhesive to bond some body bolts to the body. We'll see if it holds under heat but 20-minutes after application I grabbed one with some pliers and pulled my shoulders up off the ground. Should do the trick.

A couple weekends ago I spent some time digging into the volvos oil leak. Almost gave up since I could not see where the source was. I did a bit more research online and what the some local volvo parts guys said. I then remembered I have a inspection camera. With their recommendation, I am quite sure I found it.
Was tough getting it back into place (again, you cannot see it without the camera...).
How it was when I found it:

How it was when we were done:

Drove it a bunch lately and no more smoking after every drive longer than 15 minutes. So it is finally fixed.

Gross. Glad it stopped leaking.
I replaced the protective film on my rs2 lights today. It was probably 15 years old. One new vs one old and foggy

Removed the old condensor:

The new one:

Installed:

Now just need to vacuum test it. If no leaks are found, then refill the R12.
