BHW all the way. Available. Comparatively cheap. Great power. Laid out to go in the front of one of these cars. It's what I've contemplated OFTEN. If we got the B4 avant I'd do one in a heart beat. RS2 look tdi. Mmmmmmm, tasty, and practical!

Yeah, the I5 does not have enough benefits to make sense and the V6 is cool but I think the I4 offers enough for a commuter. A nice super OD'd 6 speed would make for some great MPGs.

I REALLY like the idea of the Smyth TDI Coupe but it would not be so great in snow.

The BHW 2 liter turned up a little would make for a compelling drive i believe in a CQ or B4.

It would be at least as good as the t3-60 7aT.

Lol, I might consider it if, the Diesel equivalent of, 350awhp was feasible.

A V10 Diesel D2 A8 would be quite a thing }:-) Not sure how the MPGs would be though.

BEW.... After dumping $1200 on the balance shaft module, doesn't leave you with much left for performance. I'd be worried about that engine in a heavy-ish car like a CQ. (I know they came in the Passat, but still, it would not perform any better than a stock 7A probably)

I'd like to at least have 5 cylinders or more in a TDI powerplant for a CQ.

The B4s did have a TDI option that was an I4 ;)

I have similar hp/tq tdi 2.0 in the JSW, and even in stock form its more than capable. No screamer but moves surprisingly well even at highway speeds. Weight of both a stock 91 CQ and the JSW are close enough as to make no difference. With turbo, engine management, ie the small things, 300+lb/ft tq is done. This is MUCH better than a 7a....makes more hp than a 7a as well. And possibly double the fuel economy of the 7a.

So I was just doing some thinking about turbo oil feed and drains... Has anyone just tee'd into a sandwich style oil cooler adapter for the turbo? Seems easier than pulling it from the oil pressure port on the driver's side.

Yep, that's what I'm currently using on the 7aT kit. I think that's the "official" way they're doing it now? Dunno, but it works much, much better this way.

I think my project thread has some pics of how much cleaner it runs. Use one of the ATP oil feeds you can drill yourself, a nice 90/straight AN line and you're all set. Nate can machine it out for you simple enough.

Seems like it'll work fine if you want to run an oil cooler. Overall though you'll end up spending more money that just getting the 034 adapter. It would make it easy to plumb in an accumulator too though.

I plan on an oil cooler and maybe an accusump down the road so it makes sense to have the in/out. My concern would be any loss of pressure because of the thermo or cooler.

So I see a lot of talk about AAN MLS gaskets (034103383AD) being used with 82.5mm bores. It this still acceptable? Seems like 034 sells one MLS for all 10v-20vs up to 82.5.

Yeah, I was thinking about the flow after I posted that. So what the scoop on the part that comes with the 7aT kit? Does/can it have ports for a cooler?

If I can find room I'd be tempted to remote mount the filter which opens up a few options.

I was thinking id want an oil cooler as well when i do finally get the kit. Debating if I just want to sort that out now or if it would be easier with the kit to integrate.

Oil filter is going to be pretty low, especially if stacking.

No comments on the head gasket? I'm thinking I'll get the full AAN head kit if the MLS will work with 82.5 and the valve cover gasket is correct.

Two seat stroller fits with room to spare. It would be even easier without the strutbar (I think it is in backwards, bends back not forward).

Still making some parts choices but I need to start pulling the trigger to have it together for Vegas in Sept!
