I just need to know if the brake line fittings are different for carrera calipers???

Yes they are, the Porsche Calipers use a banjo bolt setup. Your existing hoses woudl be too short to reuse anyway.

Monoblocks aren't banjos. Use the long 5000 lines. The 405mm or whatever. Also ~16" if you buy them from an american company

Yeah these are the monoblocks. So I guess if I just get lines made up I'll find out what the fittings are then. Thanks for the info!

It has been a week of audi awesomeness.

Here are things to come within the next 10 days.

Brake parts will be here friday (still need to order wheel bearings and get brake lines...any info on brake line fittings I might need and length would be greatly appreciated)

To put the brakes on, I need to put my wheels on. So I just ordered adapters from Adapt-it-usa...they were great, and it cost a grand total of ~$210 for all 4 in 26mm and 32mm thicknesses (and all hardware required to mount the adapters). They should be here in about 10 days, so expect to see pics of this fat goodness soon.

Also, on friday I am making a 3" exhaust all the way back.

I am soooooooooo excited for all of this!

Now I have a set of rods that I don't plan on using so if anyone wants a set of AAN rods let me know.

Connecting rods!

I just pulled a set of pistons out to sell to a fellow MGer, so the rods are out too obviously. I just need to get the wrist pins pressed out and then they can all be sold and shipped.

I'm keeping the crank and block for the build though.

nah son!

they are from my spare short block :)

it is down tho because of the stock brakes being basically trashed. I'll get some pics of the exhaust friday (and try to get a vid too). Then next week Ill FOR SURE get pics of the wheels mounted the SECOND I receive the adapters lol.

if you insist...this is all i have lol. Quite boring for now

OK guys...here is the important part for all of you T44 guys

When I get the caliper mounting brackets, I am going to draw my own design up on ProE, and another very nice Audi fellow is going to machine them on the CNC.

I don't want to make an entire thread about this because I don't want to infringe on 034 here...we haven't talked cost or anything yet, but I'm assuming they would basically be for cost plus whatever you want to pitch in for our efforts. This is not for sure yet, but its something I definitely want to do. I guess I need to go invest in a micrometer before I can get anywhere with this lol.

I'll keep it updated.

and one more question for anyone to answer.

The wrist pins are not pressed in on these pistons are they? I looked for like half a second, but I'm pretty sure I saw little c-clip-like things. To get them out just use a pick and get the clips out no? Sorry, I haven't dealt with this kind of thing yet.

I'm kinda proud to say I did manage to get my first shortblock completely apart in about an hour with no prior knowledge or experience...its not like its rocket science though :P

Yes, ther are clips on the wrist pins..Rotate the clip until one edge is at the notch in the piston hole, then you can use a small pick to pry it out..

cool thanks. I actually thought that that was probably what you do when I saw them...but I just don't have any time for the next day or two to do much of anything in that way so I figured I'd ask to save time.

Got class in the morning, then time from 11-3 to study, then work from 4-9, then pull and all-nighter until my test in the morning at 8:00 lol...and THEN go work from 6-11!

Haha I'll do my best!

I just wish I had a good video cam. That might be a non-issue if I can replace my D80 with a D90 soon (HD video on an SLR wooo!)

adapt it really was a great option, as soon as I get the adapters they get my two thumbs up!

Yeah man, I am pretty into photography. Its definitely my preference for expressing myself, but I also enjoy video editing. I know the D90's vid mode isn't great compared to the high end HD video cams, but its better than not having one! Plus, its like a $200 upgrade for me instead of buying a whole different camera, etc.

If I had the money I'd get a nice video camera, but thats just not the case!

I'd have to say my favorite thing to film is wakeboarding. We have done some footage from a tube being towed behind a boat and me and my buddies doing flips over it, etc. That was sooooo much fun :)

yeah an upgrade of 90 bucks is waaaay cheaper than my buddys $5k cam and $5k worth of add on shit but it does shooot insanity clear shots

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... tech-specs

the slow mo and fast fwd recording are so cool, you wait we;ll have a bunch of car vids on here soon

the sound out of it rivals the quality of the video, you can record highs and lows at dif volume levels its great!

wowwww thats awesome.

I can definitely dig that. Sound is actually my top priority when it comes to vids (car ones anyway) as I'm the audiophile type. One of my many, many interests is car and home audio.

...which brings me to my latest guilty pleasure possibilities. I have always lusted over this sub, and I may be selling some of my car audio equipment to buy one. Maybe not though, as I'll have to invest a lot of money into other components just to satisfy this thing. Its one of the most epic pieces of sonic wonder that has ever been produced for the car audio market

The Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite sub

Image

Image

These haven't been in production for quite a while and retailed for about $900 (just for the speaker lol)

The sound quality is impeccable though.

I also intend to pick up another set of Phoenix Gold RSD6.5cs components for the front of the audi. I had them in my last car and they were just incredible. I suppose I'll have to build custom enclosures for them in the doors...but thats fine. The car has all infinity stuff, and while that is fine for most people, it just doesn't cut it for me.

Most likely I'll just pick up the components and put them in with the rest of my epic sound stuff lol, but skip out on the Ti Elite because I have other priorities...AND the fact is that the little PG components will sound like having a single 10" in the trunk anyhow. They are seriously that amazing. I couldn't get over them in my old car. The thing is they are super rare. I waited a year and a half to get my first set when they were just coming out. Luckily I have a source now :)

Here they are

now that i look at these brackets...they are going to be super easy to make.

then the only other piece of the puzzle is figuring out how the hubs need to be modified. Once I can get the brackets drawn up in CAD and figure out the hubs, then you guys have an easy way to strap some badass brakes to your UFO car.

Just do them out of steel, not aluminum. I've run aluminum caliper carriers. No thanks.

yeah, sounds like a pretty good idea. These ones are aluminum...but steel does seem a bit safer lol.

It wasn't a strength issue, until they started to corrode. I'll bet they lost 30% of their mass in just a couple years of OH/IN winters.
