Thank man! I have to admit though, you have one of the cleanest 4kqs out there. Even w/o a turbo swap, I'd have to say it's one of my more favorites!

Ok, So I had the crank polished, so it looks like I am ready to go back together. Does anyone know where I can get engines specs so I can plastigauge this sucker? Or, with the 'dirty' rebuild I am doing, does it really matter???

Looks like youve been pretty busy with the 4kq even though youve been busy at work! Good job Ben. You gonna be working on it all weekend?

I wish! I HOPE To just have time to put my new valve springs today or tomorrow. I just finished the Envoy engine job yesterday morning, sooo I am hopeing to have time this weekend, and I just found out I am waiting on parts from Crapa for my 'weekend' jobs. SO it looks like I just may have some Audi time.
Does anyone have some advice for me for the engine build????

Ben make sure to gap everything properly.... I dont see anything "dirty" about this rebuild and I would hate to see something happen down the line on ya. I got all my specs and clearances from the Bentley.

I just realized that the plastigauge kit has the specs that I need.

I feel like a tard now. HAHA Oh and Jt4k, this is a dirty dirty rebuild. No machine work to the block. Just bearings and hone, with the rods of course. I have a 2nd block that will get all the lovin later down the road.

So... at the moment I am waiting on the correct rings, the ones I received had miss-boxed #2 rings... :bashtard: In the mean time I have assembled the rods/pistons as far as I could, cleaned the valves and honed the engine.

Fresh paint... for the 2nd time.

It's not yet.

So, just a quick update, the service built engine is in, slave cylinder is hooked up, I've been working on wiring in the URS4 harness and lastly Dan the man hooked me up with a TPS! I do need a couple of things, I need a serpentine harmonic balancer with a trigger wheel, MR2 PS pump and a speedo cable. Of course I need a lot of other stuff still, but that's where I am at right now. My goal is to start the beast on my birthday for the first time...Sept. 2nd. Anyways, If any of you guy's see a good deal on of the mentioned items one, let me know! OH and sorry no pics, my camera died about a week ago. :(

you can retro your o1e to mechanical or put a 5ktq elec speedo in your cluster

You will make your birthday for sure. I'd add a camera to the list of things needed
Did you go 01E and I didnt even notice?

Nope, sadly no 01E yet. :( That will come with my next engine build. This build is strictly for the learning and to get me by to the next one; which, I will really beast up. The main lesson learned this first go around is to keep the car running as long a possible, while I build up the engine that is going in. I think the car has been down for 3 or 4 years, I can't really remember when I first pulled the head off. I know I was rail-roading at the time, so it's been waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Get it back on the road and enjoy it!
So much to be said for being able to drive it, even if it isn't 1bazillion WHP

Just buy one that does drive so in the meantime you have a 4kq that you can cruise.

Progress...
A6 Parts delivery from storage...

Current state of the engine bay =D

I'm still slowing working through the wiring. I'm about half done with the integration of key components. I have decided I am going to forego ECM control of the Fuel pump and just run an inertia switch for protection. The other part of the equation is identifying plug ends with-out damaging the shielding, so at the moment I am trying to identify the crank sensor plug (VR Sensor). Another reason I am going to keep the shielding is so that I don't have to continually fight with signal interference. GOOD CLEAN SIGNALS will minimize needless down time IMO. Here is a pic of the rats nest thus far:

Another item on the list: I need to figure out my throttle cable, I believe I ended up with an Early Hank's intake model, so I don't have the pulley provision on this one... ergo I need to figure out a pulley to make it work without rubbing. More than likely I will mount something off of the RAD brace that I am fabbing up.

Anyways, that's about it for now. Here in the next two weeks I should have my DP completed along with my AWIC and piping. I really have to pull this together, at this point I am considering giving up a 5 day hike in Cali in order to take this beast to BBQ.
