since you are all impatient, here's a graph from the best run of the day. seems more laggy than it should be. attempts to add timing or more boost added power but detonated. 25psi seemed about the sweet spot with moderate timing. I think there is more in it, but there may be some boost leaks going on or some cam timing issues IMO. I didn't have time to try and approach either issue, we had some other problems to sort in the morning first with the fuel pump relay circuit shutting down.
all in all not bad, but I'd like to see more as I'm sure shawn would.

So it's like... As laggy as Aaron's car but with half the power?
Cam timing is definitely something to explore. 150wtq @ just before 4400
Any other dynos with the same turbo on a 1.8t?

You guys are awesome and hilarious

It's good to be posting regularly again!
I have videos, don't worry I'll get them up tomorrow.
Sorry I haven't updated sooner, I was at Marc's until late launching a newly tuned Golf R in addition to tuning my car and then jumped straight into a vacation weekend and just got home. I've also been busy already...
First off is to anyone running VEMS, don't use the prescribed fuel pump relay channel. Friday (like, seriously, the day before the dyno?) I started experiencing a full engine cut at higher boost. I was powering the fuel pump with a P259 channel and it turns out when fuel pressure, injector load, N75 load etc. start working hard enough it can pull one of those circuits shut. So basically it would kill the fuel pump, injectors, and anything else on that circuit as soon as the draw got too great, and then would reset with a key cycle or two.
HUGE HUGE props to Marc for taking it totally in stride. We spent a ton of time on this problem, but luckily Marc is awesome and I did the wiring so I knew exactly where everything was going so we were finally able to get it sorted.
I explored the boost leaks and the theory that the wastegate spring is blowing open. Below is a log of where I got to, decent improvement, I think I could hit 270kpa @5300rpm which still seems really late. As you can see my PID settings weren't too happy with my settings for this log. I'm going to do a legit boost pressure test tomorrow, I did lose a pipe on the way home but I think that's sealed totally for the below log.
I've double checked the cam timing already and everything seemed spot on but I'm going to get a second opinion, maybe I'm off a tooth crank-cam, I pulled the cams but I marked them and counted and they look spot on.
Here's a log from tonight, after it hit overboost fuel cut but after that the PID could handle it. Before I adjusted the wastegate tonight I had PID nailed so I'll retune it tomorrow. Marc nailed the PID so it should just be a matter of adjusting the boost ref and boost/rpm curves.
(this is 3rd gear, same we were running on the dyno)

In terms of overall power, I'm pretty happy. The car pulls like a freight train once it's finally on boost, hopefully the big issue really is just physical timing, that would be an easy answer to a much broader power band. I'd be happy with 270kpa (25psi) before 5k at this point. I will say, on the street it is still fun, the respool isn't too painful so on a 2-3-4 pull it still hauls good!

And as Marc said I definitely want to see more, again huge thank you to Marc, he was incredibly helpful and patient but hopefully next time I'll just come for a tune

Honestly the biggest win is that once we sorted the issue with the fuel pump the car ran great. It held together, made power, and I'm still driving it to work tomorrow. It is a great feeling knowing that you are free to beat your car as hard as possible and it is not going to knock. Thanks again Marc!!!

Those numbers are wacky. My 1.8T (now 2.0) hit 390 whp at about 5500 RPM. You must have a serious boost leak. lol

Your VEMSlog is much better. About 1000rpm better lol. You're on the right track!

What wastegate spring do you have in there? The stockers are pretty damn weak.
I definitely think it should spool a little sooner, seems like your peak power is in the right ball park, but the spool is slow. It seemed like it was taking forever to spool the day we put the boost controller in. I'm looked last night to see if I had any other wastegate springs, but I couldn't find any. I ended up with a 2.2 bar spring in my 90. I was having issues getting it to build boost consistently with a 1.8 bar spring. The 2.2 bar seemed to make it a lot more consistent.

Also, I found an n75 on my bench last night that I think you left.

Check out the log I posted, Marc and I spent too much time fighting VEMS to address the spool but I think it was actually more of a wastegate blowing open issue. You are also on E85 and a much smaller exhaust housing, both of which would help my setup but aren't really options- I want to keep the big housing to fight det at higher RPM because I can't get E85. Marc said there was another 100-150hp in it if we had corn.
