4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq
Re: Matt's 87 4ktq - "4 FOX SNAKES" - dead
I'll get some logs of it this weekend. It's going to be slow going getting it sorted because I'll be using only free time... ie the unicorn in my life.

according to the "wandering idle" log, there is no variation cylinder to cylinder as far as the ecu is concerned.

NO kidding. My heart drops everytime I see that title.
Re: Matt's 87 4ktq - "4 FOX SNAKES"
No time last night to do anything with the car. I'm just kinda stumped. I'm wondering if I should just go through the whole fuel system at the engine and make sure nothing is clogged or messed up. Dad said he figured my injectors were leaking into the combustion chamber but that he didn't think it had anything to do with the problem. Regardless I'm going to run his ID1000s and send mine away to be cleaned and matched.

Oh, I also had this amazing dream that we started getting e85 at stations around here and I was thinking, "boy I'm glad I have these big injectors!
"
And then I was trying to explain to Sarah how awesome it was, saying things like "I CAN NOW UNLEASH UNLIMITED POOOOWWAAAA" and she just looked at me like wtf
Good dream

Re: Matt's 87 4ktq -
ahahahha that's a pretty damn funny dream...
Have you considered just pulling the rail and using 5 clear bottles to check the injectors out? That may help you eliminate them as a problem without spending money....oh, except that you have to get the bottles from somewhere. Having a helping hand may increase sobriety for an accident-free test
I guess water bottles would work too, but they aren't as much fun.

Should add that fuel rails without clips will shoot out your injectors

Here's my current config. I don't see anything funky here. Didn't have time to do the test, maybe tomorrow night. Dad had to make a trip to Milwaukee...

Re: Matt's 87 4ktq -
So I updated VEMS to 1.29 and the problem still exists. So then dad and I tested the injectors in the Injectors Visual Outputs page. 2 and 4 fire at the same time, ie 2x as much fuel. When we tested 2, 4 fired as well and vice versa.
So then to isolate the wiring (perhaps the sheathing melted or rubbed through) we cut and spliced our own wire in on #2, and tested again. Still fired #4. So now I have an email out to Marc and the ECU here with me at home.

as replied via email:
three possibilities there.
1) the config is set to do this (its not, or at least not the log I looked at)
2) the wiring in the harness is bridged between the outputs. use an ohm meter, do you get 0 ohms between those injector trigger wires?
3) when you took apart the ecu, did you accidentally cause the output pins on those fet drivers to touch one another (possibly via the clamp plate touching the legs of the FET?

Thankfully it's like a $6 part and my dad can solder that small stuff. But I think I might send it to Marc to have him check over everything. It's also weird that that's an ignition driver, not injection.

What do you do while waiting for stuff? Order gauges of course...
Picked up VDO cockpit boost and oil pressure gauges. They should go nicely with the gauges in the car... surely better than the phaze white faced boost gauge I've got now!
Now I just need the passenger side kick panel and ash tray and my interior will be nearly complete!

We're getting this puppy back on track. Come hell or high water.........it will be done!!
These pics sum up why we do the crazy things we do. Happier times, pre carnage pics on the way to Carlisle.

Re: Matt's 87 4ktq -
I think I've finally nailed down which direction I want to take this car as MY project car. Obviously I have to sort the annoying mechanical issues, but once that's done and I can drive it it's going to enter long-term project status. Which doesn't mean it'll be sitting undrivable in a shop, it just means I'm going to be undertaking small projects, one at a time, until it's done. It's not a DD and never will which is pivotal for my project. I also think my vision will probably be divisive, but who knows.

the idea to strip the 4k to its essentials has been playing around in the back of my head. And that the car came with no AC or power steering amplified those thoughts a bit, but really it was just a little bit of a "helper". More importantly I really think this is a great reflection of my personality/taste, which is pretty bare bones and no fluff (I'm a boring guy right? lol). I like purpose and function and while form is important, to me it is secondary.
So what's my plan? I think in a nutshell, the answer is remove everything that's not essential without hacking the car up, AND keep the car QUATTRO. So no cutting (or at least extreme cutting). Well, except for the stereo because I love music too much to be without it while driving
My thoughts so far are to remove the carpet, the headliner, door cards, heater core etc, and power windows. And obviously the wiring associated with all those electric gizmos. I need to think of a way to have the windows function, either with roll type or perhaps some sort of ratchet system. The sunroof I'll keep but it will be operated with a simple lever/latch thingy (don't know what it's called). I think the back seat will stay, as I do have kids and would perhaps need to kart them around, or extra passengers etc.
I'd also like to AT LEAST roll the fenders, if not use some of the UrS arches we've got around, to do a widebody conversion.

Re: Matt's 87 4ktq -
I wouldn't gut it unless you want to turn it into a race car. It completely ruins resale value of a car, and makes it about 1/10th as practical of a car that your wife will let you keep long term.
