Not sure what I'm going to do yet. Might just cap it, and let the cal vent it.

So far I like your mounts. Feels very firm, but doesn't shake you t death.

Got to do some more work today. First here is what I came up with for the bilstein gland nuts. I used a factory gland nut, machined it to fit the bilstein strut. Then I made up a spacer piece that also fits the strut, and uses a 40x47x4 seal. Should work well.

Image

Then this evening I did some things I can do here in the parking lot here at my apartment. First I installed the rubber body plus under the trunk lid. Mine were either gone, or falling apart. Maybe now I won't get so much water in the trunk.
Image

Then I decided it was a good time to install my smoked euro tails. Its a subtle change, no?
Image

Here it is with both installed. I'm glad I did it!
Image

That's all for now, going to try to do some more tomorrow.

Very subtle, but looks nice. If nothing else, it freshens up the old worn out plastic. I love putting new parts on like that :)

Thanks Chris. I wish I could have found a pair in slightly better condition. These are almost in the same condition as the ones I took off. Just with less cracks.

One thing I noticed when installing them was that the driver rear quarter has been replaced. There are some pretty ugly tack welds in the trunk next to the outer tail light. I hope that in general it was a good repair. It looks like someone had forgotten to spray where they had ground the weld off. I'll hit it with some converter, then a little paint.

Looks good. I could have hit them with some compound and polish to make them look spiffy new ;)

The thought had crossed my mind. I had seriously though about pulling all of the rear lenses and polishing them. 2 things made me change my mine. First, look at the rest of the car... Not exactly a show winner. Second, I didn't have enough butyle tape to reseal the outers too. When the time comes to paint, I'll make the lenses all pretty and newish.

One other thing I noticed, along with driver rear quarter, the driver outer tail doesn't match. That one is from a 90. I know this because it was made in Germany. The 80 rears are made in Italy, and are a slightly darker red. I guess that's another part I will be looking for in the near future.

You could still polish them on the car and then polish the paint while you're at it :)

I should try to bring the paint back some again. I tried when I first got it, and it didn't look too bad. After sitting out in the sun for 2 years while I was doing the engine swap, it has gotten a whole lot worse.

If you do that, make sure the gas cap is vented (hello, mister drill) - they're generally not from the factory!

I found out the importance of venting the hard way... on my Saab 9000 the line from the tank to the canister broke then got plugged with dirt. As the fuel pump drew fuel out of the tank it pulled a vacuum and the tank collapsed! When your car has the fuel pump and level sender inside the tank and that happens, not only do you get to replace the tank but the pump and sender too. My bank account still hasn't forgiven me for that episode.

The fix for that is to use a one way check valve on the evap line. Keeps the inside of the tank from drawing a vacuum but doesn't allow fuel vapor to escape

Thanks Mike. I did put new tape on the center tails. I just wouldn't have had enough to do the outers as well.

Once I get all the mechanicals taken care of, I will seriously start working in the cosmetics. I have to do both interior, and exterior. I'm thinking a good respray in black will do a world of good for the Bandit's self esteem.

This sounds like a winner here.

PS rear window works again. Like normal, take off the panel, tap on it with something while trying to open the window. Thanks for the tip George!

Running out if things to fix here at apartment. The seals should be here Wednesday. Then I can swap in the bilstein HDs in the rear.

Well this morning was the perfect conditions for pics of the bandit. Overcast, and recently rained!
Image

This one perfectly illustrates the difference between the Italian 80 tails, and the German 90 tails. Not sure how I never noticed it before...
Image

I'm going to remove the passenger front lower door molding. George made a good point about it flying off on the highway and possibly damaging mine, or someone else's car. I'm also going to try the Maguire's ultimate compound to see if I can bring some of the paint back. We will see...

Nice! It looks really good as a whole package. I really like the wheels and tires, and it has a nice stance to it (the word is almost taboo now, ugh). With shiny paint and new trim this would definitely be one of my favorite looking B3s!

It doesn't need paint...that car earned its patina...plus then you lose the sleeper look

See what happens when you don't respond to emails Bilstein! I make my own! Haha!

Anyways, these are now ready for install. These and a larger rear sway bar should keep the body off the tires.

I got he bilstein's installed today. The tires no longer rub for any reason. They are actually quite stiff. Now I need to put a set up front... No pics, sorry.

The bandit is as ready as it will ever be for Carlisle. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again!
