I actually need the 9" ones, but they are backorded till mid march in 400lbs...

The URS needs 7 inch rear coils, so that isnt that bad.

Aaron, how much did you pay for your a1 stuff? They have sweet deals if you buy all the perches and colors together, but if you are piecing it together.....

I am at about 180 for the four corners for everything except for the springs... sound about right? So like 45 a corner?

Hank, that sounds about right.

and the 8" QA-1 springs are 70 because they are chiny chrome..... not powdercoated.

This is a great site for picking up new/slightly used springs for $30-40 a pair. It's hit or miss if they will have the exact spec you want, but the inventory changes regularly.

that is a good place Mark. i am gonna check there every so often. i could use different rates for the hell of it.

and i did the shifter tunnel today. welded in a framing of sorts, and trimmed it out. drilled the cover plate, welded nuts on the bottom. now I have easy access to the shift linkage. and i did not have to do any linkage modifications. it will be much easier to drop trans this way.

and i spoke with the regional tech for NHRA. and so far my cage work will be good to 8.50 sec 1/4 mile if the welds pass. and they should. they better hahaha.

so i drilled/tapped the shifter into place, and built up around it. i feel that it is complete now. maybe just a little more enclosing on the rear. but its done.

also did a quick dash plate test piece. this is gonna be sweet when its completed.

now to go back out and work on the dreaded front floor plate for the pass side. i have been skirting this task for the week. but it needs done, so off to do it.

and more cage work. got the pass side done. that wasnt so hard after all. me just being a big baby....

and dash bar is done also. i have some re-order to do on the center plate. and i decided to take the steering column straight to the cage and ditch the stock stuff. i had to do the dash bar anyways, its part of the whole thing. so i just went that little step further is all.

really nice work as usual, damn you are going fast too. The tunnel came out really nice, and I love the Idea of being able to get at the linkages from the top side.. I think I will go back in the shop after dinner.

you are going fast. i placed my order with sandw friday  so ill be there soon hopefully. and i say get rid of the woodgrain too, although it looks sweet, its not going to match the aluminum. unless you go the extra mile and get some sort of wood grain sticker to put over that aluminum panel, but still then...idk.

damn you are going fast too. i told you's guys that all i needed was some time with the damned thing, and i would make some sort of progress. only so much can be done from afar.
The tunnel came out really nice, again, thx... and I love the Idea of being able to get at the linkages from the top side.. I think I will go back in the shop after dinner.

Hayden, you do not know how much i like the idea of the topside access. i couldnt figure out how people drop these trans without full linkage removal. and access to the slave cyl, come time to bleed it? oh yeah.

and for the dash, i am going to get on it soon. tomorrow is family day.... we are going to the OMSI to see the Bob the Builder exhibit. Chub's gonna FREAK!!!

imma tackle some dash stuff right now.... but i only have an aluminum piece left enough for the cluster. thats actually my old mounting plate for the Snow WAI kit i had in the rabbit.

anyone need a STG 2 Snow Performance Methanol kit, with the extra Safe Injection controller and boost dump solenoid?

its extra. and uneeded anymore. (shameless plug) haha

i remember what was the deal with the dash inserts.

i am using alum cuz its lightweight, but they will be blacked out. i am doing it this way as i got silver faced gauges, and they will stand out better that way. had i gotten black faced gauges, then i would run the alum panels the way they are. and in retrospect, it may have looked cooler. but such is life. :D

hell. my ADHD kicks hard at times.... and i get sooooo freakin sidetracked. i will start one thing, and BAM something shiny is just sitting there, minding its own shiny business, and i gotta go pick it up and look at it.

i have a buddy (the painter) who thinks everything has to be polished. i tell him he has a disease, and its called Shiny-itis. he's like a raccoon.

but yeah, its coming along. i spend a good portion not working on the thing, too. i cant really work on it until at least 9AM as the wife and child sleep alot. and this whole "living with neighbors" thing kinda caps the evenings off some, too.

Looking good Aaron! I guess if you want a fast car you have to build it fast (as in quickly). I don't think there is anyone on this forum that has changed out a tranny in an Audi and spent hours trying to connect, disconnect, or adjust the linkage that can look at your top access plate and not just let out a big smile. I like it.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has that get distracted problem. I will be cruising along getting things done and walk to the sideyard for something and forget what it was I was after and start measuring up something else. :frustrated:

As far as waiting in the morning and quiting early at night, wait until the kids are old enough that you spend the whole Saturday at a State competition for CHEERLEADING to support your girl. Is all I could think about is that I don't think much of cheerleading, I hope my girl does well and doesn't get dropped, and how I wished I could be home working on the Urq. Oh well I guess I can just get a little relief looking at your project and progress. Keep up the good work!!!

thanks John.... ADHD is a bitch. hope the cheerleading goes well. today, we are going to the Childrens Museum and the Zoo, Bob the Builder exhibit you see, and Chub loves Bob and Thomas the Train too. family day takes me away for awhile, and i know the whole time i am going to be thinking "what would i be doing if only...." hahaha. i did some little work though before the household awoke. i did the layout for the dash plate holes, and started to drill them out. holesaws, many different sizes.

i am definitely glad i went the way of a tunnel mod instead of linkage mods. the actual reason i went this way was the first year of the rabbit, i swapped in a cable shifted trans from a later car, and i played hell shifting for the whole freakin season. early sunday mornings i would load the car up on the trailer, take it out into the country, and run it on this long straight lonely stretch. trying to figure out the shifter.

and after doing that once (swapping trans that is) and fighting the shift mech for so long, i vowed not to do that again. while some may say i went to greater length to make the UrS4 shifter work with the 01E swap into the Coupe, its more about comfort level and ability. i havent the patience for little things like that, shifter alignment. but i have plenty of love for building things, and the like. so for me it was a no-brainer. and i forgot to grab the console from storage to see if it still fits.... that would be funny if it did.

and i still do not see how anyone deals with this linkage setup otherwise.... it would piss me off to no end i think.... hahaha.
