I press them out. It is sometimes difficult to get them straight and lined up in the press, but come right out. You can use the press if you are interested. Looks like you have been pretty busy this weekend. Good job!!!

Im still finding molten rubber lumps and stains from the Lancia suspension teardown, I gotta find a
greener approach this time lol
Not that it wasn't fun...
Hey, do you guys know a good exhaust shop in town? Jacks down on Losee is gone, he is the one that has helped me before. I want to get the 3" run from the DP back and that super whamadyne silencer installed that I bought 3 years ago. There will be an arm wrestling match for my current system once it hits the ground, I can already tell.

Johns' closer, and will probably take possession first. but from what i hear, Hank will most likely end up with it, whatever it is, if John has it..... unless there are other participants?
while the fire solution is cool the first time, its smoky and messy and stinks. i always fear the heat will weaken the part, but in my real mind i know it doesnt, its not there long enough to alter the molecular structure of the metal of the subframe. plus, seam welding would do the same but more focused, as well.
and if i have to go to the job in Barstow (Newberry Springs) or Tonopaugh (Round Mountain) ((Tonopaugh is a year long project)) be prepared to see me weekends, as your place is closer than mine

WoW we have been sending crews to Tonapah over the last couple weeks, its desolate up there. If you will be on the range you will see some cool stuff flying overhead, but you wont be able to even take something as simple as an iPod on site.
There is one more contender in town for my exhaust, he has the 3rd Mars Red car in Vegas lol

we are moving a Gold Mine if i know whats happening down there in Tono. but i dont want to know as the more ya know the more likely you are to go

but if i do go, i will be free labor, cuz i like to work on cars and dont like sitting in the desert for nothing.
while working Montana and Idaho, it was ~500 miles to home. and Friday night after work (5 x 10's) i would drive home. sleep a few hours Saturday morning, have all day Saturday at home. sleep good that night, leave back for the jobsite around noon Sunday.
did this for 6 months in Montana, and most of the time in Idaho.

There is some truth to that statement.
And Sean I would most definately be interested in the exhaust for either of the red Urqs, both are pretty well rotted out. What does Sean have on his Urq now?

Sean down in Henderson just has a stock exhaust on his as well, it might be a little better shape being a Cali car but he has mentioned his interest a time or two before. We may need to take a ride down there and do a little emergency surgery on his car, I think it may be off-pace for the event in October.

Aaron, if you ended up in Tonopah for a spell and spent some weekends in Vegas I have a feeling something of mine that isn't turbocharged-would be, or something that already IS turbocharged, would be turbocharged HARDER lol
I have that 20vt project waiting in the wings

You are probably right Sean, but it would seem ashamed to have the blue pill completely gutted and at the drag strip.

You know the puddle to run the car through to warm up tires with a little burnout would probably get your car dirty.
I'm not real sure that I'm on track for October, but I'm getting closer. Where is Sean at with his project? What can we do to help him? I'm all about a little friendly support.

I'll drive right around that puddle ;o]
I sent Sean a message on FB, hopefully he will give me an update and we could possibly go down there soon. I have a short trip this week but home Friday. I have saved up alot of PTO this year too, I might be burning a couple days getting ready for the event.
The locals just have to get their cars done for the event, thats all there is to it ;o]

As far as I see it, the time for my car to get-dirty passed decades ago.
Heck, you gotta have one on the ground driving it to get it dirty so someone here surely shouldn't be busting my chops - yet...

Front subframe is all cleaned up, yea, just cleaned up, not stripped sanded or painted. There was a few decades of oil and grease on it so I gave it a once over with foamy and then followed up with a scotchbrite and some agent orange... I did some detail work on the lugs where the solid bushes mount and everything fit nicely. I managed to mate the subframe back to the chassis but it's just in-place I didn't torque anything.
What do all the cool kids do to secure these solid mounts? Torque them? Loctite? Red - Blue?
My hole saws were both too big so I didn't make progress on the control arms.
Out of town Weds - Fri so my next update should be over the weekend.

I still need a couple opinions on the above question about the solid mounts.
In the mean time I just ordered a set of drilled / slotted rotors for the rear (V8 setup) and some new pads. Im sending alot of bias back there and they have worn quicker than the fronts.
I will probably call Paragon and order some braided brake lines this week.

Looking good Sean.
Man what I'd do for a rust free urq as a starting point for a project!!!
We Canucks have no such luck, unless it's a British Columbia car.
Cheers,
Craig

for solid subframe mounts? i just bolt them in with the bolts 034 sends with. new hardware. none of mine have come loose, i dont have tons of miles but i have a bit of abuse with the way i run the car.
but a touch of blue cant hurt, they will still come out that way. and the captive nuts in the body are pinch nuts, they do not allow one to just thread the bolt right in, its gotta work the whole way.

Cleaner way to removing subframe bushings:

The piece I pushed into was the top off one of my front struts (put on one of mance's big bore extensions), and worked like a charm.
As for the control arm bushings, what I did was hammer the inner edge inward, then put a socket (22 or 24mm) on top and use that to press it through into the above top of strut.
This is what they looked like afterwards:

Hope that helps

Hank, do you remember what your settings for the rear Koni's were? I surely don't want to break these down to adjust them once they are installed for a long time... Your rears are the single-adjustable right?
Sittin at the airport now, no progress 'til the weekend.

Yeah, but they are valved differently then the off the shelf units. 2bennett valved them to go with 500lb springs. Naturally, I have them all the way stiff in front, and about 3/4 on the front

I think my starting point with the springs is going to be 375 F / 400 R and if that is remotely close to how the Coupe S-Line handles I will be impressed. Im happy with the Red Pill not-having a sway bar on the front with similar rates.
