The logic was not followedThe URQ originally came with an 016 like the 200. When I put the torsen 016 out of a 200 in my URQ, I used the 016 torsen tranmission mounts. They use the two bolt transmission mounts like the 5kq 4kq, cq, s2, or rs2. They were plug and play. Even though the subframe is quite different on the type 44, the transmission points appear to be the same. This means that a plug and play solution would exist for the 200 as well, in the form of rs2 transmission arms.. The rs2 mounts are in my URQ with my second 01e in there now.
I still find it interesting that you got away with using the 200 axles. The 01e has a different offset, and width when compared to the 016. It must not be enough of a difference. Have you logged miles on this setup?
Hank: Yes I put the urs housings on in 2008 to replace UFO stuff--I have done about 40k on them with no failures..There is only a few mm diff in the front track between 20020v and urS4, the axle play is more than enough to take up the difference--you can move the axle back and forth with your hand when it is bolted in..The 01e axles don't come into play there, as the driver's one is shorter and the pass is a little longer. The difference is the hub offset, they sit out a little further, same as V8q--which I have swapped into a 200 as well with no issues..Have to use the S4/V8 rotors as well when you swap due to the hat offset..
So the RS2 arms locate the mounts onto the 200 sf in the same place as on the urq sf? If so then that is a plus, except for maybe the cost of those bits :-) .. I have a B5 S4 6-speed waiting in the wings for the Titan car, so I would be needing some custom-length axles as well..
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
Well, I got some advice from an old sage. He told me going with a broken 6 speed over the built 5-speed. It would definitely be easier on my wallet initially
I really do want the 6th gear too.
Nuugen and Hank, please continue discussing this. Even though I don't have too much to add, I feel like we are really getting somewhere in terms of 01E into T44 here!

That concept would say that the URQ axles should have worked with the 01e, and they definately would have not worked on the passenger side, where the 01e wants a shorter axle length. It would have bottom out.
Yes, the oem rs2 mounts are spendy, and hard to get these days. Good thing I have a couple dozen aluminum replica mounts that allow for engine setback and additional subframe castor on the shelf.

/\ Yes, correct...However, I swapped urs strut housings on the 200 and retained the 016 'box; had I put the 01e in there, I would most definitely have needed different axles due to the shift in the diff housing..When one of us goes 6-spd 01e, we will need to discuss the axle shaft lengths..

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
Wouldn't using all UrS stuff be an alternative? May be easier to just get Hank's mounts but I'd rather get a UrS subframe and tranny mounts vs finding OEM RS2 mounts. Axles should work too, no?

Wait, I am confused. So you have an 01e in this car or not? I understand that you put urS uprights in to eliminate the UFO pieces, but did the car get an 01e at the same time?
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
I don't think it did...
So one last question:
Option 1: $1400 shipped to my house
Rebuilt 5 speed with these ratios:
3.50 first
1.89 second
1.27 third
.97 fourth
.73 5th
Wide first conversion
Cryo/WPC-treated mainshaft
Cryo/WPC-treated first and 2nd gear
Front Torsen
Center high-bias Torsen (like Stasis)
Option 2:
6 speed 01E from B5 S4. Typical broken 1-2 slider. $500 shipped.
Buy rebuild kit for $900 and rebuild myself.
The price comes out the same. Is the high bias center torsen and front torsen going to be worth it over having the 6th gear?

I'd probably go with Option 1 even though I like the 6 speed myself. Depending on usage you might like having the front torsen, but I'm not a fan of the high bias center unless you put an lsd or other locker in the rear. If you're more into launches it doesn't seem to help except making the fronts patter around more.
That's a decent price shipped...if you pass on it can you pass along the connection?
I guess in either case, lol!Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
I say option 1 as well. It is easy to swap in a sixth gear into the 5 speeds down the road, infact I have heard that you can even do it while the trans is in place(the 5th and 6th are at the back of the trans) 500 shipped is pretty steep for a buggered 6 speed too IMO.
The sixth is not that much taller in the b5 six. You are talking about the difference of a couple hundred rpm from the five speeds. 1-2-3 are identical, with being shorter than the 4th of the 5 speed, and 5th being slightly taller than the 4th in the 5 speed. That may be nice when you get up to a 700whp car, as you will need 4th at that point to trap over 130mph, but then, a 5 speed will get you into the 10s as 130 gear can be had at 8700rpm in third.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
OK I think I'm going with the built 5 speed then if you can add a 6th. I could potentially do a custom ratio 6th someday
Can anyone explain how the different torsens are going to affect traction, feel, and such?

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
Thanks man.
On the driving thing: You'll notice it more in wet conditions, but with the high bias versus the stock you'd feel more power transferred to the rear so you pick up a bit more power-on oversteer. There's a limit though and its not super dramatic in moving from 3:1 to 4:1 if you don't have an lsd on the rear or otherwise lock it. Some people suggest they notice differences mid corner but I never have. On launches the high bias kind of suck if you're leaving hard and breaking things loose without just blowing the tires free. speeding-g60 is convinced its one of the reasons for axle/cv failures and he may be right.
Overall its a subtle diff that you may not even notice in the 200 imo.

Yes sorry if I was unclear..I replaced UFO with urs uprights, and I did not install the 01e..That's why I didn't need the custom shafts.. I sold the 5-spd 01e and picked up a 6-spd..Not sure if the urs subframe will work in the type 44, though, anyone BTDT? When I had it out it looked a lot different..
Carry on..
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Looking for an 01E, advice?
Ahhh.. that is cleared up now. Yeah, the extra track of the urS would be very small, and easily soaked up by the cvs. But I do see what you are saying, as the urS axles may work in the 200 with an 01e with simular tracks.
