I haven't been following this close lately however the headlights look like they're coming together great man! Let me know when you have a solution to the glass and I'll be sure to do the same

Are they the thumbwheels that fit a type 44 dash or something newer? Any part numbers on them?

I have been wanting the V8 body, but with my motor and trans. That has got to be the best type 44 combination that was never made. It is not practical to cut up a V8 donor car to take the panels unless you are a body guy. The time it would take to clean where you had to drill out the spot welds and pry on the panels to get them loose from the donor car would add up to a lot of time at a body shop if you could find one to agree to mess with it. So I was super excited to run across brand new OEM Audi sheet metal to do a complete factory V8 conversion. This has got to be one of my best finds yet. Super rare and definitely not available anymore or in any warehouses. I found some old pricing that showed when they were available that the rear quarter panel was selling for $745.00. I don't even want to think about what the rear center section cost or the V8 rocker panels. The rockers are heavy duty. Someone ordered these V8 body panels about 15 years ago to do a conversion and has been sitting on them and done nothing with them. So I jumped at it first chance. It is amazing what some people have stashed away in their barns. Having new panels makes it somewhat feasible to do the swap. The car is a sentimental car and I know it would have been cheaper to just buy a V8 donor car and put my motor in it, but I am not parting with this car.
I am going to run the car for a while as a 20 valve bodied ''sleeper'' for now, but I have something stashed away for when I go to paint the car again. I really wish I had the V8 rear fenders to allow for some real fat tires and deep dish wheels. I also want to put flares on the front. I cant decide if it is going to be the 200 20V fender or if it is going to be the V8 fender with the 200 lights grafted into the fender. it seems that the V8 front fenders ''overtake'' the rear V8 fenders and a nice combo would be 20V front and V8 rears.
So I definitely will (eventually) go with...
1. V8 rear quarter panels
2. V8 Rear bumper (Really want to cut the rear and add air foil)
3. V8 rocker panels (unless I can blend the v8 doors and 200 rockers and make it look decent)
4. V8 rear doors
5. 200 Europoean Type 44 headlights
6. 200 Grille
7. ???? Use 20 Valve fenders or V8 Fenders and graft in the 200 lights???
8. V8 front bumper with CAC clear lenses to match the Euro headlight reflector.

It would be kind of cool/unique to alter a V8 rear bumper like this and then add two splitters to separate the wind flow into two small outer sections and then one larger in the middle.

The solution is time/patience/diamond pad/air sander/water. Another hour of polishing and it should be to where I am happy with it. I didn't think it would come to doing this myself. I figured I could drop the pieces off to a glass shop but no one wants to touch them. So I had to do them myself.
Here is some tips...
1. watch out for heat! It can get hot quick and possible shatter.
2. don't try to go to fast.
3. don't grind/sand too much. You can't put the glass back
4. get a cooking pan filled 1/4 way up to keep the glass partially submerged in water for cooling
5. tape the perimeter area off that you don't want to hit with the sander. It gets hard to see where you need to hit when you get the slurry water in the glass.
6. you don't need much cerium oxide. a small pinch will last forever. The stuff is awesome. You can't do it with out it.

I couldn't leave the dash alone. After adding the white face gauges, I decided to add bezels from an A6. Then I decided to have the bezels from the A6 chromed. I sent them to some place up north called Paul's Chrome. They turned out really nice. I just had to polish some of the copper and nickel plating off to get them to seat back into their holes. I think the last think I might do is have the chrome bezels pin stiped with a small red ring to give each gauge some contrast. The chrome tends to take the color of whatever it is near.

DUDE! These came out great! I need to do it. Can you let me know specifically which abrasive disks you used?

Glad those NOS V8 panels worked out for you Josh. I've still got that other V8 fender.

Thanks Scott. I'm actually leaning more to have the 20Valve front fender with the V8 front bumper and 200 Euro lights. I have a V8 fender and a 20V fender. Want to trade a V8 for another 20V fender to match? I should have my car back in the next two weeks to start on that part of the project. I'm getting pretty excited to have my car back to start working on it again.

I thought this was a pretty clever advertisement from Audi for anyone that watched the Olympics mishap in Russia during the opening ceremony...

Thank you. Yeah, I bought the new euro side reflectors from Paul at CAC. I also got the clear 20 valve side fender marker lights. Now I am going to get the clear v8 bumper turn signals and the lower bumper air splitter for the v8 that he sells. I am pretty happy with the 200 euro lights that I have now. At one time, I considered doing the 100 swap just because he had them on his site but when I talked to Paul, he said he abandoned the project because it was too labor intensive and time consuming.

With a projected completion date, we are starting to click off a bunch of progress on this beast. Can't wait to see it on the dyno mid March

Ah, I didn't realize Josh was using a qsv! I was like, man who is this! Lol.
I need to stop creeping on my wife's Facebook.

you were the one that introduced me to the qsv back when I was considering buying your 034IIC from you. We learned that the titanium version has had problems and are going to use the non-titanium blade instead. They are nice enough to admit the problem and pay for the shipping to exchange plus give credit back.

What are the issues? haven't heard and didn't even realize they released a ti version. Dad has the "normal" hd version.

They have had reports of the titanium blade warping and restricting flow when open or having issues opening. They said they are pulling them in and having a metallurgy test done to see if it is confined to a small batch. SP said they would test it and send it back. I don't have time right now for that and I am pouring the pressure on Hank to get the car on 100% by March 28th. So they are shipping Hank a super hd non titanium so we can get on with the show.

Good to know! Very cool. Your car is at Hanks too, right? When's the motor go in?! Man I can't wait to see this thing on the dyno and then ripping around. Beast mode initiated!

Yeah, the motor is in. It looks good. It's in the car and looks sweet. I can't help but to stare at it. :-). I will post a pic tonight unless Hank does it.

I have the super HD version and it has been problem free. The butterfly is pretty thick and I am sure some would say it's a little restrictive, but for the duties it has to perform, it is just right in my mind.

How long have you been running it? I wanted the thinner titanium butterfly, but when they wanted it back... It kind of scared me. So I'm going back to the super hd. I'd rather not risk it and go with what is proven.

Almost two years, 4-5 track weekends, quite a few miles. I just had it off to re-do turbo to manifold gaskets and it looked great. BTW I went with no gaskets this round, just a thin layer of copper RTV and it works fantastic.

Awesome, good info. Thanks. It's good to get real world feedback. Do you know about how many rpm you dropped getting to full boost when you added the qsv? I heard they are good for 800-1000 decrease. Some say as much as 1800 depending on motor/setup (hard to believe that though)
