oh, and the reason I didn't pack all of it in there, 20lb limit on usps flat rate. the rest will go out with the turbo.

Will do on the throwout bearing. They are the smallest bit different - one has a nice smooth beveled edge on the inside, and the other is staged.

No problem on the boxes, we figured it was just so that you'd meet the weight limit for the other box. And again nice job with the duty :)

LOL thanks for the reminder! Once all the parts arrive and everything is cryo-treated, there is going to be some INTENSE building going on :) Dad's taking a week, and by that time I should either be done school or very close, and ready to help. The car will be done waaaaaay before //S-fest

I know, I know - I said it'd be done in December (double lol), but it took a while to figure out what was going on.

Hey, where are you located? I saw the St. Louis reference, and I was wondering if you might be in the midwest.

Hey Frank, we're up in Canadurrrr. An hour and a half north of Toronto. My sister lives in St. Louis.

The turbo has arrived! Things are hopefully going to by cryo-treated over the weekend. Here we go!

Compared to a turbo that is very similar in size to the one that came off the car. This is the CT3-6465, just a bit smaller than a GT35R but w/ a billet wheel. Comp says 650bhp/500whp. Plus it's ball bearing, not journal like ze old.
Image

Hotside... this is where there's a huge difference. New AR = ~1.0, old = ? whatever RS2 is. Cut in half by the QS valve, should spool nicely at .5 AR when closed :)

Woo! Checked the block w/ pistons and rods this morning - everything fits beautifully. I don't know why some people report having to clearance the block, as we had quite a big gap, I'd say around .5cm or more. Maybe people need to clearance with different rods? The Scats were fine.

Anyway, ze old man is now on his way down to Niagara area to drop everything off at the cryogenic place. He'll pick it up Monday. In the back of the truck (and in the seat ahead) is:

block
crank
pistons
rings
rods
bearings
head
valves
springs
lifters
retainers
turbo
quickspool (not sure about this, he'll check when he gets there)
exhaust manifold + hardware
clutch
flywheel
throwout bearing (also not sure about this, plastic...)
brake rotors

The cost to treat is $850. Hopefully the molecules will be happy again :)

Text only update. Dad got to work on the intake manifold taking the guides out (fun job...) while I proceeded to disconnect everything on the block, undid all the tranny bolts, loosened the engine mounts, etc. Only thing left is to take off the AC condenser. Tomorrow the rest of the engine's coming out! Pics of a nice empty engine bay to come.

She's going to come together this week methinks. Tomorrow the engine is being picked up, and we'll start building on Wednesday and continue through to Sunday. Boring stuff right now, I know, but SOON there should be photos of a built motor and then videos of the car running :)

To Do list:

port head
paint intake manifold and valve cover
clean and paint driver's side engine mount
assemble head
assemble long block
bead FMIC pipes, make mounting bracket, install FMIC
install clutch flywheel
have exhaust welded - add v-band flanges to exhaust
have downpipe made w/ v-band
mount manifold to head, turbo to manifold
get quick spool figured out (operation)

TUNE!

LOL, yes, it should be faster than running on 4cyl.

Talked with Marc a bit. Didn't really realize that with VEMS everything can vent to atmosphere. So AEM on the turbo here we come.

Only thing is CCV. Will venting to atmosphere get dirty? I mean, we could run a hose down to the ground... that's kinda nasty though. Maybe a short term solution until a catch can.

You can definitely do that. You can also just drain back to the oil pan.

Sweet, last two pieces of the puzzle were ordered today and should be here tomorrow and early next week. Ordered the phenolic spacer for the intake today from 034 (thanks Sam!), should be here tomorrow via DHL.

There also happens to be a local AEM dealer. Ordered the same that's from 034. It should be here Monday, and we can run it without a filter in the shop

So over the weekend the plan is basically to build it and get it running. The build had to be postponed by two days due to work... pfffft ;)
