As far as the coilovers go, the safest thing you could do would be to make a ring like the front struts have. You wouldn't even need to weld it to anything as long as it is a good fit. It wouldn't hurt to tack it though, just to make sure it doesn't scratch the paint and corrode the strut body. If you want to drive it until you can come up with a solution, I'm sure you could just let the sleeve sit on the weld if it's diameter is small enough to do so in the meantime. It shouldn't split the sleeve that quickly.

That's what I was thinking as well. I don't really feel like making an extra set of those rings, since I have to do the old hole saw/drill press method . I thought I saw a picture of a 2Bennett Coilover Kit that just had the sleeve sitting on the weld... Have you seen that?

I haven't seen that, but it wouldn't make me feel any more comfortable about it... Even with a mill and lathes, the easiest way is pretty much to just do the hole saw/drill press method. It's a little easier on a mill just because it's usually a more stout piece of equipment, but the process is not much different otherwise to be honest.

I got the coilovers and new wheels installed and had the alignment done. It came out awesome! I initially did the take up springs on the front and the rear, with the coil spring floaters, but due to the location of the OE rear spring seat on the Koni rear struts, I needed to remove the take up spring and floater in order to get it so sit right. It drives great! I seriously am in love with this car

I will get some good pictures of the car soon, but the weather has been, and is going to continue to be, very snowy!

The current list of things I am going to do to it is quite short until the TDI swap comes, but here it is:
-Front upper strut mounts to increase camber/caster adjustment. Chris??
-Window tint (I don't like feeling like I'm in a fishbowl)
-Stereo upgrade
-Make rear calipers black again, not RED!
-Possibly paint or powder coat front 993 calipers charcoal gray and do black QUATTRO lettering on them.

I am also considering, when the current front brakes need replacing, switching to the 17Z front caliper setup. I feel like it would be cheaper to maintain in the long run and I could, at least, sell the 993 BBK kit for the cost of going to 17Z's, or even make some money. What do you guys think?

Looks really great! As far as the mounts go, the first set is going out for plating soon. I wouldn't expect anything to be ready for a while though unfortunately. The design needs some re-work just for cost-cutting purposes. Hopefully it wont need any changes due to fitment either, but that is yet to be determined.

I've got it on my list but I have big reds now so it's not really necessary unless I somehow find a way to get some serious track time. I've got the 2B setup with hatted rotors and I need new rotor rings but they're expensive...

Avant is looking great and put those springs on quattroworld if they don't sell here quick.

There is not much to update about the car right now, but I did do an oil change, haha. It has been a dream driving an urS again! The guy I bought it from put less than 1500 miles on it during the 2 years he owned it... I have already put over 3k miles on it Here are a couple pics of it all cleaned up:





Last week I picked up the first piece of the puzzle! I got a 2000 ALH TDI with every accessory, wiring harness, fuel pedal, etc. It is going to get completely rebuilt with some new, go fast parts.



Since the car is already in perfect driving condition, it will be nice having a project that I can just take my time on and still be able to have a driving car. I am going to try to get everything I can do, finished, before actually tearing into the car. Even though it will still be a while before I pull the current engine and tranny out, I figured I would put it out there that the original engine, tranny, wiring harness, ECU, etc. will be up for sale.

Here are the specs on what will be available:
Engine - Complete AAN with less than 100k miles on it:
-Wagner Evo RS2 Exhaust Manifold
-ARP headstuds with MLS headgasket
-3 Angle valve job done by Dave Jones. I will look at the paperwork to see what milage it was done at.
-All silicone coolant hoses
-CAC stainless cat back exhaust
Transmission: Wide 1st 01E 5spd with less than 100k miles on it
Complete engine wiring harness and stock ECU with MTM Stage 1+ chip and larger MAP sensor

I would prefer to sell it as a complete package, but we'll see when the time comes. What do you guys think all of this would be worth?

Oh, interesting. Sean had a europa Avant that he totally restored, like to the max. Fully stripped and repainted, replaced literally everything. It was stunning when it was finished and unfortunately he sold it immediately. Kind of pushed him over the edge, you know how that happens.

I agree with you Chris! It is a constant struggle, in my head, thinking about swapping such a clean, low mile, rare car, but here is my logic...

This is my dream car, and I finally own it. It would be great to park it in a climate controlled garage, rarely drive it and keep it a "museum piece," but I really wouldn't enjoy that much. I want to drive this thing, while still keeping it in pristine condition. I have already had multiple people try to buy it from me, but I honestly would not sell it right now, even if I got some ridiculous offer. I really love driving a 20vt again, but the 20vt doesn't really fit my wants and needs right now. For me, a built 20vt, while super exhilarating to drive, will just get me in trouble and end up making it hard to keep the car a daily driver. I want something that is quick, torquey and gets super good milage. The solution to that is the TDI. It will still make more power than a chip tuned, stock turbo AAN, but also get 40-50mpg. It will still be sporty and represent the "S6" badge well. I will do the swap in a way that the engine, wiring harness, ecu, etc. will basically be "standalone." I am not going to modify any aspects of the car itself in doing the swap. The motor will have mounts that use the factory AAN mount locations on the chassis, the transmission will be a 6spd 01E that will bolt into the place of the original 5spd 01E and the ECU should be able to mount in the factory ECU location. I'll use the original urS6 radiator, ac condenser, etc. and leave the core support as it is (aside from a FMIC). All that being said, should I one day want to put an AAN back in it, it should be an easy, bolt back in swap from the TDI. Nothing will be irreversible.

Sorry for the long winded response, but in the end, I am not going to get rid of this car and just want to make it fit my needs and wants

A hopped up TDI makes for a great daily power plant. For those of us who rack mega miles onto our old cars, it makes daily driving one of these things (dare I say) practical? Its just a car anyhow.

Honestly, you should be able to swap it back to a 5 banger anyhow. I don't think putting a TDI in requires anything to be permanently modified.

My car could be swapped to a 20vt in a weekend if I had all the parts.

No. Sean's old Europa avant had over 200k when he bought it. Curious how's he doing now a days.

Sean is good, living in Ottawa. I had him check out my allroad before I bought it but I didn't get to meet up with him unfortunately.
