You seem to have a surplus of shaft length... Bet you never thought *THAT* would ever be an issue, hmm?

Oh, and the problem with the one in the car isn't its length, it's that it's crooked!

Well today things are going a little better than before... I got the driveshaft aligned!

Everything I read on the 'net and the illustration in the Bentley implies that it's supposed to be straight in the horizontal plane so that's what I shot for. And I aligned it "the right way"... with a frickin' laser beam!

Did you have your "Quote" fingers up when you said Laser beam?

Did you end up needing to move the engine & trans placement?

Yeah, if you compare that photo to the one I posted earlier, the rear of the tranny is a bit farther toward the driver's side.

That, and a little cutting and filing on the bearing bracket to allow it to move toward the passenger's side a bit did the trick.

Nice!

Was a shark with a fricken laser beam attached to its head used?

Nah... have you ever tried doing it that way? For one thing, your larger sharks won't even fit under the car when it's up on stands. If you do manage to get them into position, all they do is flop around. Plus, feeding them will cost you an arm and a leg! :P

Re: Eric's '90 80QT-to-be: oil cooler AN fittings?

Okay, enough about sharks... and driveshafts! :P

Can someone answer a hopefully-easy question for me? Suppose I want to switch to AN fittings and hose for my oil cooler (which came from a UrS6). I know 034 has adapters for the engine end... what do I use on the cooler end of the hoses? I didn't see anything on 034's site that looked appropriate.

I kept the fittings and got the hoses made, the AN fittings drop the flow down quite a bit. The hose fittings are kinda spendy though

I was wondering about that - the hoses on the Audi cooler seem quite large compared to the few others I've seen. I think the oil coolers on most Saabs use 3/8" ID hose, the Audi ones are closer to 5/8". Although -10AN hose is supposed to be 5/8" ID also, so in theory it shouldn't restrict that much?

I had actually tried to mod some of the OE Audi lines - I tried to cut the metal tube part shorter and braze it back together but I couldn't get the brazing filler to stick. I was pretty surprised - I've brazed a lot of different types of steel and stainless before with no problem, but had no luck whatsoever with those lines.

certain brands of fitting have more flow restriction than others, earls and aeroquip stuff is very nice, some summit and jegs branded stuff necks down smaller

To change the subject yet again... I don't suppose anyone here has a CQ or 90 20V A/C accumulator they'd let go for free/cheap?
Image

I can get a new one for ~$30.00, but I'm not ready to close up the A/C system yet so a new unit would probably get ruined. I'm really just looking for something to throw in there so I can check clearances.

Note this is *not* the same accumulator as on the 20v cars! Those have the in/out on opposite sides, the 20V ones have the fittings next to each other as shown above.
