Take a wider photo so we can see the top of the cam sprockets and the chain.

If you count 7 teeth up on each cam from the marks (teeth with marks being #1), there should be 10 links between those two teeth.

Awesome!!! Didn't wanna search for that with dirty fingers on my phone, I know I had seen this before and a conversation regarding the possibility of having to time 7a's a but differently in an AAN application... I think it was a thread started by Dave in QW. I haven't seen mention of it since so im assuming it was more of a theoretical post...

Oh, and has anyone been able to spec out the wider washers needed for the ARP head studs... Trying to find those locally if someone has the measurements. Sort of wanna get that far today...

Thanks

how many open links should there be an on chain now?

Hold on, how are you setting the cam sync? I don't think, may be wrong, that it is as simple as 180* off.

Right, that is the stock alignment.

I am saying, is this as simple as phasing the exhaust +-180* to make into a, properly performing, intake?

Oh I think you're under the assumption that I mix and match my cams... I went 7A Intake and 7A Exhaust in there intended location.... none of that "AAN Exhaust Cam as the intake & 7A Exhaust" stuff... Ain't got time for that right now... lol

 Yes, this post was misleading:

Then these guys quickly responded:

Since I don't have 2 sets of 7A's, I really couldn't go with Hanks suggestion... Since I DO have AAN Exhaust cams, I might modify that one at a later date and use it as on the intake...

7a intakes don't have enough duration to support power above 6800 on bigger turbos. By putting the exhaust in the intake slot, you can grab a bit more lift and a tad more duration. With the cost of 7a cams, it is coming close to what proper Cats or other cams are designed to do, with far better specs. Still, there are some really good dyno plots where the power does not drop off at 7000 like I am accustom to seeing on straight 7a cams. This is also why retarding the cams with a cam gear yields great results..

Hopefully the costs keep increasing, good for the 07K fund :D

How does retarding the cams yield more power? Is it because the valves are opening "late" after TD help? Reason I ask is because as you know Hank, I'm going to be on 7a cams. If having an adjustable cam gear will help me achieve a better power band, I better start thinking about picking one up.

Retarded cam timing as been discussed here:

Thanks man and holy frick, over a 50whp gain buy just adjusting the cam timing. That's crazy.

Is it done yet? What's the hold up? Driving impressions? Why don't you put a 07k in instead?

Lol....
1) Done? Not done but getting there
2) Hold Up? Still waiting on parts ordered/paid over a month ago
3) Impressions? I think it'll be expensive at the pump once it's done (thinking of upgrading the fueling after break in)
4) 07k? I have one, but it's not going anywhere near here...
