Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 9-29 slow motion launch video (still bor
the other night, Rufus tried to kill me. yes, i know he is in doggy heaven. Chub and i were gonna go out to the shed and look for something. it was dark. he wants to hold the flashlight. sure, i say, ok then. off we go. i tell him we need to shine the light on the ground so we dont step in Rufus poop, and as i step off the deck (~1ft high) i hit the only hole there was to hit, that Rufus had left behind. another ~1ft, and twisted the left ankle REALLY BAD! bad enough to warrant a trip to the ER. crutches, pulled a bone chip off the bone from stretched tendon, blah blah. i was crawling around.... couldnt walk. anyways, been hobbling about the past few days for sure. i miss my puppy, but that night i didnt so much :-/ ankle turning colors, cant put much pressure on it, swollen up. hurts like a mother bear. thats my clutch foot!!!!! i need it!!!!!
so, i got these pretty cool plates from Pete @ Integrated Engineering. i got them while in development for a surge tank setup. they are for mounting the Bosch 044 pump into the fuel cell, thus reducing fittings and also submerging the pumps to keep them quieter and cooler.
had them for months now, figured i have a couple days yet so its new fuel cell time. the reasoning is that i want to sink the pumps, and to make it easier to fuel the car at the track. i really like the cap i have now, but it is sometimes a pain to operate, and it is lower than i would like. it will be easier to fuel this way.
the template; i will hand this off to my master welder, and i will have this replicated in aluminum shortly.

fuel cell in the front? seems like it'd hurt the weight distribution.
are you going to weld up some aluminum? or what other material?

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 10-02 new fuel cell plans
fuel cell has ALWAYS been right there. on both drag cars, its been driver side front corner. and yes, i have them made out of aluminum always. see, out this way, we make as much as we can
what is weight distribution? this car weighs ~1600 front and ~1000 rear. and it lifts the front right up trying to clear the ground on the launch. i think it would just try to lift even higher if i move the cell to the rear.
here is the other fuel cells..... but they have always been in that corner. short fuel line runs.

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 10-02 new fuel cell plans
i did a formal DIY for the shifter detent thingy. here is that posting;
side to side detent firming up. help snap back that shift lever to center. and this is a revision on the first one i did, there is no need for how i did it initially. a plug is just fine for overall, and no spring is replaced. just cut, drill, tap, done.
it starts with an aluminum bodied detent from the 01E. doesnt work with the steel bodied one for the 5spd, i tried.
you cut the top of it off....
pull the spring out.
drill the hole out to get the plunger out. notice the plastic caged needle bearing inside. i went and watered it down right after cutting, its hot and i didnt want to melt that thing.
tap it for 1/2" NPT.
finished product.

Hey Aaron, shit, that ankle looks painful! Maybe you can design a hydro-actuated ankle to help with those launches?
Your car is always an inspiration. I'll try to come on this site more often in the future.. I've been gone too long!

just real bored, learning stuff along the way.
cut up a head, for "the experiment". and an exhaust cam. oh yeah, thats an AEB, baby. its just how i roll.
ever wonder how the internal water pump motors look inside? how they interface inside the motor? ok, here ya go.

us TT guys frown upon you for destroying an aeb head. that is a common swap so increase flow for out motors. lol
but if it was scrap then idc. (i haven't touched my TT performance wise in quite a while... all I5 now... darn you)

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 10-02 new fuel cell plans
i made more power with a smaller bore motor and ported small port head (with a little less torque) than i did with a larger bore motor and non ported AEB head.
ported AWP with 3652's, 82mm bore, 592/434 IIRC.
nonported AEB with 3652's, 83mm bore, 557/480 IIRC.
i attribute the increase in torque to displacement, all other parameters were the same.
and yes, do you REALLY THINK I WOULD WASTE A GOOD HEAD? that head was beat to shit, and cost was $350 to rebuild the bad cyl to normal. not worth it.
'sides, i got a couple more
(sorry, none FS, i use them ya see)

it looks great in person. some final fitting, tabbed it, and back to the welder it went. seems the product in aluminum may be a bit more squared up than in cardboard LOL.
Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 10-19 fuel cell pix
It looks really good Aaron, but doesn't look like it's going to give you much range......maybe a quarter of a mile if you're lucky.

nah. my other one was squatter but wider. it had a 5+ 1/4 mile capacity
this one is about the same capacity.
pretty nice how it is just two pieces, broke in the right places to fit each other.... the guy is good.

nice cell, you gonna put some pre-filters on the pumps?
I learned the hard way but now I know were that valve retainer went.

Looks good. I like those IE pieces.
Everytime I see Nubs tag on a piece, I want to personally waterjet out some nice NUBWORKS plates so he will stop doing it.
