That's some unrelenting acceleration, Matt be sure to thank your dad for the upload.

Sorry to hear about the reliability issues Nick. It'd be nice if the cams in general would eff off and toe the line... let something else break haha

That was me yelling in the video! The torque and the acceleration of that car are absolutely phenomenal! It just kept pulling and pulling! I really can't imagine very many cars that could beat that 200. It was nice meeting you Nick and thanks again for the ride!

So some of you know and some of you may not know about the second Cam/Cam gear related failure... Long story short, took some fine gentlemen for a rip while in CT for S-Fest and the cam pulled decided to fly off and land under the turbo around 90mph (midway through a 3rd gear pull). Yup, same (or similar failure twice). We're 99% certain what the cause is and it'll be resolved for next year. See Jeff's post for details.

At S-Fest:

That was that.

So, that put me in a shitty position. The car, obviously down until next year ruins the rest of this season. One real bummer was H2Oi. An event that I have attended for the last six years. And also have been awarding the last three years in the show. On the fence of whether or not to even attend this year...

Last Sunday I decide, PUT THE STOCK ENGINE BACK IN! Ordered a set of ARP head studs and a new head gasket.

Broken stud removal:

Biggest turbo on a stock 300+k mile Audi engine???":

Cleaned up the pistons, cleaned the deck and head surface. New Victor Reinz HG:

Stock engine with a twin disk, lolz:

In the car:

And fired up today:

Gotta get the front end all back together, add coolant, etc. Then out to make the softest tune possible and for MPGZ.

See ya's at H2Oi!

Nice work on tearing that out and getting it back together.

That rocks, why park it when you have the old, trusty, beat to the edge of its like motor sitting there :)

Sweet. I came close to you on biggest turbo on stock engine, but don't have you on the miles. The hx52 was on the stock engine with head studs. Only 182k miles though.

How far did you push it Chris? Maybe after I return I'll see what it does. I really would prefer to keep my spare block windowless though, lol.

Something was up with my boost control, so I just kept hitting it up against boost cut at 25 psi. So whatever 25 psi and about 7500 rpm gets you. Timing was conservative at 13 deg from 4800 rpm until about 18.5 at 7600. That was more of a 30r map, so that low at 4800 probably should have been shifted up a bit. Anyway, you get the idea. That was on 93 pump.

that sucks so bad nick, congrats on seemingly keeping your spirits high. I love the mega turbo on the stock audi engine.
Hopefully the cam gear failures will be a thing of the past for next year.

I can't imagine it being hg if you used a new one along with properly torque ARP studs, and weren't going crazy on boost... what were you doing?

New HG. Torqued them in three steps from 50 - 65 - 80 in the correct pattern. Leaked just idling it up to temp.

I re-torqued them to be sure and some of them moved after the heat cycle. I then went out a tuned it on waste gate ~18psi. Runs strong! Also seems as though the leak has stopped!
