Some things to look at on the ac... if you get down there and look around you should be able to see some ac oil leaking out. If you have the manifold type compressor, the orings between that and the comp body are known to go bad, I had the rear seal on the 5k compressor go bad, and I believe on your car there's a pressure relief valve too.
Everyone's gonna yell at me for suggesting this, but sometimes its the only way to find a leak. Modify a can tap charging hose to take a Shop air hose fitting, and charge the system with compressed air, then spray around with soapy water, where it bubbles is your leak

Oh and how about a gunmetal pearl (black with silver pearl basically ) for your wheels?

hmm good idea. I'm pretty sure there is indeed some oil leaking out of that. I'll have to take it off and see what happens.

dude wheels should be done in Burgundy, like Red wine almost. OR you should totally do the wheels in a Straight polish on the face! and then do the inner parts with like a RED! Well. i dunno. Im just tossing ideas.

Yeah, I like the burgundy idea. It would be a dark one though. I also thought about polish on the face but not the sides. I would HATE to do the whole things polish lol. Then again, I don't think polished would look that great on this car.

Yentemad, (its Dave right?) sorry I didn't see your post up there for wheel color. The color you described is definitely something I was thinking of. Something dark on one light, silvery in another light. Thats how my old wheels were and I loved it except for the fact that they weren't done quite right on two of the four. I think this may win out...maybe with a slight, slight red wine or root beer tint to the black portion...I dunno. Thats going to depend if I'm feeling funky that day lol.
Soooo anyway, I hung out with my buddy Tom (who will be doing all the fab work to fit the Holset) tonight and we discussed a few things. Firstly, I have to get another t3 flange to space the turbo out a tiny bit so I can clock it downwards. I'll need longer studs on for the manifold after that of course...need to keep that in mind.
Second of all, the wastegate placement on this manifold is terrible which we all know. I really don't care though. I could run internal wastegate on this turbo if I wanted to but I at least want to try it external first. Boost creep is my concern.
Finally, he thinks I'd be an idiot to just put rods in this engine without just going all out and building a monster bottom end and being done with it. In the end, its true...I'd be wasting money doing it this way. I wanted to just put rods in for now, but of course that includes bearings, new hg, hone, new rings, etc. so I guess I might as well do pistons, balance everything and all of that...the only thing is, then I need to do an 01E at the same time so that I can have it balanced properly. Its really one of the biggest cases of the "while I'm in theres..."
My thought right now is to just leave it stock bottom end until I build my dream bottom end in which case I don't know if SCAT or IE rods will cut it for 800whp??? I'd really love to know. I'm willing to bet they'd do just fine, but it would be nice to know. Carillos are just so damned expensive. Again, I don't know if I'll really hit 800whp, but I intend to keep the car long enough to make it possible if I want to and I'd like to make a very beat-on-able 650 at the verrrry very least.
The good thing is that no matter what, it would be a good idea to put a clutch in this car with the 016 because I can use it in the 90 when I get an 01E for the 200. Then it wont be a waste of money. Sooo at least I have that covered lol.
I really want the 90 with V8 running before I get started with a money-is-no-object build on the 20vt.
The bottom line is I'm giddy with excitement to get this thing started in a few weeks once this job kicks in! Thoughts and concerns are welcome as always

:woowoo: great to hear Chris. I am 99.99 percent sure the Scats and IE Rods are good to 800. I know 034 used the scats on their clost to 1000hp I5. So I imagine they will be good for the 800 :-D ... your car is going to be a monster.

Alrighty then, sounds like a plan.

My other plan is to NOT drop compression if possible.

funny how much the little hardware things add up. Just spent $45 with 034 for one oil filter housing adapter and 4 aircraft nuts. Then $35 at race part solutions for a t3 flange (as a spacer) and a 38mm flange to weld the wastegate dump tube to. Shipping kills it too.
First post is now updated with a reminder of what I need still.

Get to it! Can't wait to see a vid with you running the holset!!!

Cool, looks like things are starting to come together now.
I can't wait for a ride in it once its done!
I'm still slowly but surely collecting parts for mine. I plan on taking a week or so off near the end of summer to fabricate/assemble everything and then head down your way to get a Tom-Tune, hopefully.

Yep, man I can't wait for you to have that thing assembled and come down for a Tom tune!! That will be way fun.
Oh and by the way...I think I left the exhaust housing flange up there along with the gasket. I'll shoot you a text to see if it is. I'll definitely be needin' that soon

Lets see here...ah yes, I also talked to another person from Belcan who says she could get me a job if I had graduated this past year. I'm going to go in for an interview in the next week or so. I don't want to back out of the VA thing because its a sure thing and its a steady 40 hrs a week at $14.xx an hour and my uncle helped me out so I'm thinking I'm going to try and get something locked in for next summer. Should be sweeeet. You gotta see if you can get an internship here with Fl turbine or Belcan or something and then you can have a free place to stay and we can keep building our cars here lol.

Chris, i say you go a nice gunmetal color on the wheels.

I agree, I think thats the best plan. BUT I want it to be gunmetal with a twist of some sort. Something that changes as you look at it or something that just has some nice detail up close. We'll see

Gunmetal....with a black lip. But pinstripe the black with the gunmetal? That's classy :-D
Or a gunmetal pearl? Apparently it is/was a color available on Harley's.

lip? What lip? haha sorry I'm used to the BBSs and such with actual big ole lips. I'm not really into different lip colors really unless its a two piece or three piece wheel.

Oh, wait, are you talking about the Avus's?

by loxxrider
haha yesssss, sorry maybe I didn't mention that? Sheeeit lol
BUT, I am all for BBS suggestions as well. The BBS are almost definitely going to be a classic BBS racing gold, but I may consider gunmetal on them depending how the Avus' look.
Dana...I know!! I'm doing everything I can to get it on asap, but the truth is the only thing holding me back right now is my first paycheck. I'm thinking not this weekend, not the next weekend, but maybe the next? Depends when I get a check for sure.
I'm not paying to have the wheels painted, don't worry

I'd say gunmetal, then in the little....whatevers (gaps? Depressions?) on the end of the spokes, rock some wood grain. or anything else ridiculously classy. Real marble? The hair of the Pope? The sky's the limit when it comes to class.
Posted: Wed Jun 09, 2010 7:32 am
by loxxrider
ha, yes real marble it is.
I have considered doing something different in the little depressions too. Thats where a metalic or kinda like a gunmetal with a silver pearl comes in...it would really highlight the pocket thingies.

I think Hyper black is still too dark and too gloss for me. I dunno its hard to tell from a picture though.

I really like the idea of gunmetal pearl. Should be a REAL deep pearl though. Or powdercoat.

Stop fuckin with the colors dammit! Just paint them lime green again, and go spend your time on getting the holset on.
