soooo. the cage is all back together. paint it tomorrow, put seat back in, its cert time. all i had to change were the three bars.

and then its 6 license passes and 9 seconds at a time afterwards.

So Aaron was the only thing wrong with the cage is that the bars were too thin? The new ones went back in the same positions? How did they know how thick the tube was? Looking good and it will be nice to know your good for 9 sec passes without getting booted off the track. :-D

they ultrasonically tested each and every bar.... and that was it, that three bars were of substandard material.

i put them right back exactly where i cut them out from.

and if i can muster them, i will be good to 8.50 sec.

Same batch of tubing or did you mix and match what was available?

full cage was pre-built and i decided to do a few extra bars. i did tower to tower in the rear, and the sill bars (from hoop to A-pillar bars along the door sill) were not in the cage, i did those extra as well. i used the material that came with the cage for those, and had to order another tube from a local place.

NHRA specs minimum wall thickness for my cage .120 so you have to use .134 material as it loses .009 nominally throughout, and when you bend it it stretches. they gave me .120 wall material. it measured out ~.109 to .112..... not good enough.

so today was bored and had some time. went and got the physical out of the way.....

monday @ 6AM cage reinspect.

firesuit 3.2A/5, neck collar, trans blanket, window net kit all ordered.

now to find out when i will be allowed to make the passes, and its ON!!!!!!

and we all know i will try for the 9 sec pass on my first full pull. they do 2 x 330' and lift, 2 x 1/8th mile and lift, and 2 x full pulls for the 6 license passes.

and since i am bored i will start writing in colors :)

i am acting carnivore this week. day 5 in a row for Rib-Eye for dinner. goin for 10. i like Rib-Eye.

I had no idea inspections were so thorough. When I purchased my bender, my only concern was if it could handle the .120" wall spec. I honestly didn't even think about the bend deformation. I'm glad you pointed this out because it would make for an expensive mistake.

I'd also like to say that I found your whole project really interesting. I've learned a lot and look forward to more updates. Congrats on the track times.

and we all know on my first (run 5) full run i am shooting for the single digits.
