Hey thanks for digging those pictures up. I figured that the baffle would have been higher up in the tank.

We need some launches now, last time I played with stock axles white line was 180 out after 3 launches with street tires, be interesting to see how that welded piece behaves
ShavedQuattro wrote:IN order to make "Monster" status, I need to make 561whp next time at the dyno. That will give me the same 4.08:1 lbs per hp.
I spent a couple hours at the shop tonight. I have axles back in the car, in the 108mm variety. The passenger is the oem URQ, but the passenger is my own make from an urS shaft and a 5kq outter.

Basically, the shafts are hollow, so I made a dowel that would be pinned and serve as an alignment more than anything. Then I did a root pass to connect the dowel to the beveled shafts( they are about 3/8" wall tubing, and appear to not have a heat treat on them based on how they lathe). I then layed 2 more passes, untill the height of contour was enough that I could lathe it even. I then made a sleeve that went over the top of the weld, and thenwelded it. A basic slipjoint, affair.
I am excited to see how it fairs. I figure this platform is a good one to test the idea. If the other 2 axles are any indication, This one will be tested enough. I put hte standard white line son it to monitor twist.
Last, I took the oportunity to improve the fuel system. I think my restriction happens on the outlet of the tank. It is only about a 7/16ths id outlet, and I think the 2 044s really need more than that

So I opened up the tank(cut it open) yanked out the old hardline, and fabbed out a 3/4" hardline that rests in its place. I had to come home, but I just need to weld it up. Hopefully this will let me run 120psi of rail pressure all the way to redline, instead of the 70psi I see now(70psi-30psi boost= 40psi at injector) If I can, I think I can raise the boost to around 38psi for the next dyno day in April, and I am hoping for 600whp.
PS, that picture was shot with my new HTC EVO 4G. Yes, I have a phone again for all of those who are A) trying ot get ahold of me or B) sick of hearing that my voice messages are full.. Sorry it took so long

Wow, you fixed that fast.
I'm in Park City again until Tuesday, but I don't expect us to meet up.

Wiley, what day do you leave?
Janis, I am open to the idea that the axle may fail on the weld but I am somewhat reassured that it will hold by the fact that all the oem axles are friction welded to size. This keeps audi from having to make custom axles for every application. This makes it somewhateasy to mix and match axles to get the desired length, axle width and spines. I feel confident that my multiple root passes Nd final pOses are at least as strong as the oem. Everything is lashed concentric so balance shouldn't be an issue.
Anyway, I am excited to see.
As for the tank... I cut the lid off the bottom as to modify the pickup diameter but still have the oem pickup point. I thought about putting the pumps and dump back behind the suffrage, but I dont know if I want the lines in the boot, the extra lines or the bigger color moment having weight behind the axles

Marcos axles only once broke on a weld, and you realy do not need to worry about balance, I have driven car home from NED with axle looking like pretzel 120mph did not shake at all

I would have thought that balance would be an issue. Good to know i guess.

I dunno, wouldn't a balanced shaft save on wear and tear with bearings and such? It seems to me it would feel like somthing along the lines of having a driveline out of balance. Maybe I am wrong?

There is a big difference in spinning a long shaft at 8k rpm (driveline) as compared to a relatively short shaft at much slower speeds. The bearings would take more of a pounding from unbalanced wheels/tires than the axle. Obviously the best scenerio would be to have everything balanced, but I don't think that the axles would be that far out to begin with and wouldn't be that much of a problem to a point if out a bit. I am curious as to how they hold up to twisting however.

Hank, i am waiting on some parts and would like to know a couple things....
what is the thickness of the CV body, what spline count, etc.
some bit of researching i am doing..... about axles, CVs, etc.

Good luck Hank,
I don't think I'll ever have these problems, if I do I'll know who to turn to.
I love reading your posts.....always breaking something............
Keep us posted.

I think a Dyno shootout and some track action should be part of USurQ30

John, can the trusty ol' Ford get set up with a 5th wheel? We can get us a nice 3-car hauler - with a WINCH lol

Can anyone recommend the best budget pad for the track? I am running TT calipers and D2 A8 rotors in front, with urS rear calipers and rotors in back. I am not opposed to dedicated pads for the track, as with a lift, it isn't a big deal to swap them out for the occasional track day.
My rears have about 30% life left in them, and the fronts have a ton. I have a wilwood valve to adjust for mismatched pads if needed.

I use Carbotech Bobcats 1521 on the street and use AX6 on the track. I have never had a problem with compound build up on the rotor, because the pad use similiar materials. You can find them here:
http://www.ctbrakes.com/brake-compounds.aspYou can buy them for various brakes from this company.
http://purems.com/index.phpThey will help you out, because you will need to describe the brakes you have on the car, since they are not stock. The owner of the company is Mike Kim, and he is a supporter of the SoCal Audi Chapter. Ask for him if you need to.

Ive been very impressed with EBC. even the greens stop better than any commercial pad I have ever used. and it looks like pepboys is now carrying them, so Ive heard. the reds are the preferred track compound.

Hawk pads are great (various compounds) I run DTC70 front and rear (very aggressive).
I liked the Pagid RS-12 Blacks, and I've also heard good things about Ferodo DS2500's.
