I'm not sure what I'll do yet. The whole "free" thing is very appealing, but it's a lot more turbo than I ever anticipated and will require a lot more work.

It would keep the K26 flange but I'm not sure you'd want it with an HX40. Now, a v-band could be worth the effort.

It has an internal wastegate also, I'm not sure how that plays into things. It was a gift for Christmas but is a completely use-able turbo and I feel bad letting it sit around.

I still have the stock K24 on it right now... :hide:

You'd probably weld the IWG shut (mine is). Nothing wrong with the K24 (or 26), my point is that if you are really flowing enough for the HX40 you'll probably want an upgraded manifold, most are T3, and there is a point when the 3K flange becomes a restriction.

I plan on running an upgraded manifold when the time comes and hopefully doing some work to the head at that time as well.

I'm still a complete newb when it comes to turbos as far as what I want, have the ability to supply, and what is desired. :hide:

All the comments here are accurate. The HX40 is a really badass turbo if you have the mods to support it. Will make more power than an HX35/H1C and only spool a few hundred RPM later. The turbo will make more than 600 hp. In my opinion it deserves a tube manifold and some light head work to let the engine breathe (and safely spin) to 8500 RPM. The turbo will make the power up there.

Going to start gathering provision to put the Holset HX40W to use.
Also, few recent pictures to keep myself motivated during the winter...

It has been quite a while since my last update.
The 200 sits in the garage for most of winter only getting out on nice days.

I finally got up enough steam to get some work done on it.

Image

Obligatory, 'Fuck you, UFOs!'
I'm currently in the process of converting the UFO brakes to HP2 off of a B5, it's about damn time. I noticed very little wall left on the UFO rotor, probably shouldn't have been driving on it

Image

While I have everything apart, I'm going to ship off the Bilsteins and have them re-valved to my hefty spring rates and also attempt to shorten the front shock by 1.5"for more travel and more low :hide:

The shocks are on their way to California! :drunk:

I'm also trying to gather parts to get that Holset on but I fear that a new turbo and moar power is quite a bit down the road.

Nice, you'll love the shortened housings and re-valved struts. You can go 1.5" shorter by the way. It can't hurt.

HP2's work PHENOMENAL on these cars. I am glad I made the discovery way back when. I am going to be swapping them out for some D2 S8 calipers soon, hopefully they aren't a downgrade in performance.

I'm glad you made that discovery too! 8-)
I was able to convert the front brakes for < the cost of an OEM UFO rotor :P It was around 290 Shipped to my door for the Calipers, Rotors, and pads.
Thank you very much for the help!

If you don't mind me asking, do you know what that service from Bilstein costs? I need to do the same.

It's $75 valving per rear, 85$ Valving for front.

I will update what it cost me for shortening when I get all that sorted out. It's going to be around $100 in shipping as well....

I believe Chris is the only other one who has done this so far and he had a lot of problems with his so I'm not sure if anyone has a baseline price for it.

Thank you very much! :)
The reason I approach everything like a noob is derived from the devastating fact that I am indeed a noob. Having just turned 20 when I got the car and it being my first hands on experience with modifying my own car, the noobie approach is strong.

Small update:
HP2 calipers came in. The yard I got them from cut the lines and left the brake pads in so I got all the brackets with the caliper! Look in pretty good shape for 90$ shipped to my door, for both!

Got some work done tonight on strut mounts!

Bilstein has properly shortened the front shocks and they are on their way back.

For anyone interested:

100$ per corner for revalve.
65$ one time machining fee for shortening front housings. (This was originally done incorrectly and was fixed on Bilsteins dime, so may be higher)
Roughly 35$ shipping each way.
$535 total for revalved and shortened fronts.
PM me if you plan on doing this and I can give you the email of Bilstein tech who helped me.

Hoping to have this thing on the road soon! :D

Nice work!

What is your plan for refurbing the HP2 calipers when the time comes (IE seals etc)? Asking because that's the only thing that gives me pause for the upgrade on my UrS4.

I completely disassembled the calipers, sand blasted all components, replaced all seals, boots, and hardware. The calipers you see above were from a junk yard that I refurbished.

Calipers and seals were a total of ~120$ shipped to house. Probably 4-5 hrs of work though.
