Chris, I doubt the bearing on the idler pully will handle the huge amount of weight and inertia the fan is capable of throwing around. I would only reccomend this mod if you plan to delete the viscus fan. Regarding that, the viscus fan really does a ton of work to keep the engine cooling efficiently. the cheapest route I believe would be to find the bearing/bracket that has the bolt on bearing. I believe it is ultimately cheaper than the other bearing which I could not find a solution to due to time constraints. Im not opposed to continuing to find a solution but my resources are limited at the moment. I still have the original bracket and will try to find a more permanent and efficient way to fix it as cheaply as possible. Im also waiting for Hank to get back to me on the Billet K26 so I can get started. I have PM'd him many times but they go unanswered. I hope he will let me know soon.

Oh crap. Guess I'll need to find the bolt on bearing bracket.

Hank, I hope that you had taken some time to use your new mill to put your logo into the compressor housing of the billet K26 I'm getting from you. That would be cool IMO.

ok, since I have been put on furlough till further notice, I decided to pull the turbo off for Jared. I also decided to take off the rs2 exhaust manifold as well. I did find something hiding behind it too...

good thing I have new exhaust valves to install and intend on a 3 angle grind, as the seals are likely the problem. I did however forget to take a picture of my repair on a stripped out exhaust stud the only right way I could. With a threaded insert, Helicoil was never an option for me...

I put the EM through my bead blaster to clean it up. It does look a lot better...

Out with the old, in with the older...

lucky for me, with Brents help I got the other car fixed in case I cant bring the coupe.

Ok, so for the last few weeks I have been on a roller coaster of awesomeness. I got furlough'd two weeks ago, and had to rethink about coming to the BBQ4. last week just after I had an interview with a prep school to tutor for a few hrs a day, I got a call from my current job to come in the next morning cause they got it moving again. THANK GOD (aliens) while I was workless and running low on paid vaca, I decided to fix the thing I partially got the tig for...my mig.

So, back in the day, 25 years or so ago, I convinced my dad we needed a mig welder. we got one from NAPA. recently, I figured out it was a rebranded Italian welder by the name of Cebora. well, for the longest time, I have been using it broken...as in, the clampdown for the wire was all made out of plastic. I tightened it up one day and cracked it... big surprise. other than that, its actually a pretty good unit. Runs CO2 shielding and welds a nice bead...when the broken clamp doesnt allow the wire to slip and make the welds total shit. I had enough of that crap, and know I can make a nice weld. Now with the addition of the tig, I had a way to fix the problem. I cut off the plastic clamp and built one from scrap I had around. Its still using some of the original parts, but it runs smooth like it should now.





when you cant fix it without buying parts that are no better then what you took off, or cant get the parts anyway, fix it the right way. half ass only maes you do it twice, or more.

Yeah, I should be able to make it one way or another. If the coupe isn't ready by then, then so be it. I'll bring the stock 90q. I am working on it, so we will see. I had to stop to wait and see if I was going to have to use my savings for normal bills. I still have to take the head off and have the valves done, not to mention the stem seals that are leaking.

At least I found the oil burning issue. I am very happy I found why that was happening. I dropped the head off to the machine shop yesterday to have the sodium filled valves replaced with the sodium-less valves I got from Hank. Im having a 3 angle grind with all of them back cut as well. they called me at the end of the day and told me my exhaust guides were loose. at least thats all thats extra this time.

So yesterday I went up to help brent loose more of the totaled CQ at his shop. I came back with these, and the back hatch. I figured if these cars are getting more and more rare, it may be a good idea to have some extra glass thats hard to come by.

whats nice is that with the extra diff, I can install the torsen I've had sitting in storage for years and years without tearing my car apart.

I know lol. I should have 3-6 sets of motor mounts to bring down to BBQ with me. Ive run low on materials and am right in the middle of re-ordering

So yesterday I spent some time on the 90q as Im turning that into my DD and going to sell the V8Q asap. I noticed days ago that the coolant was disappearing for some reason, and being a tech, couldn't resist investigating. pressurising the system did not result in an answer, so while I was disassembling the suspension parts I got from brent, I let it idle. half an hour later, I had my answer. the rad was cracked down the front of the ds tank. I just happened to have a spare rad for that car when I was rummaging at a jy for parts for the coupe and the front mount rad endevour. Long story short, rad was replaced.

I missed my window to drop off the volvo turbo to the post office (sorry jared) because I was committed to finish the rad since the car was halfway in the garage and I was alone and not going to leave for half an hour while the garage door was open exposing all the garage innards. therefore, I decided to start playing with the tig and that aluminium panel I put up under the pass side dash. I wanted to weld a strip along the carpet, hiding the carpet edge and any exposed wires hanging out.

Now, This is the first time I started to play with aluminium. I practiced first on some scrap pieces and couldnt quite figure it out and was unsure about the settings and technique. Gave Steve a call and he came up to help me understand it all. I got some initial instruction and got a bit better at the whole thing. Props to Hank and all those who build stuff for our obsession. Its not as easy as he makes it look. and Steve makes it look positively childish. Im not about to ruin that panel just yet, so I have some more practicing to do. When I do weld it, Ill get a pic so we can hang it on the fridge for all to see. I ain't skeerd.

K, I went and done did it. Its welded. I found that outside corners are easier than inside corners. by a lot. this part turned out good.

Inside corners and another part on the outside, not as much.

However, since I did that on the side thats not seen, it doesnt matter. I still need more practice, I know. Now, that outside goober weld, pretty much ok since Im better at removing metal. its all good.

Got the head back a few days ago.


Also decided to replace my stock cams with my spare 7a cams. May as well get all the benefits if im building a motor capable of more than I'll ever use.
