Ok, I pulled the trigger on a color. I like it, it is aviator grey off the TT. It is a sweet color, and I cant wait to get the rest of the car painted. I was going to go silver, and do an quattro orginal color, but frankly, I didnt like the original color, and I am tired of people that dont know the car calling it the "back to the future" car. So yea.
I cleaned up the engine bay. This is how it turned out.

As well I got some parts from 034EFI today.. 2 days and it was here. Big shoutout to Dan and J-dub for the quick delivery before labor day. so the front suspension is getting locked down with solid subframe and then the density motor and tranny mounts. It is going to be nice ot be buckled down. Oh, and I also sprung for some delrin bushings. I about out of money though, so I need to get this thing together, and get a new job!!! LOL Oh wait, just a job would be great.

aviator gray :( :( :(
i helped tune a CQ in aviator gray and was overly underwhelmed with that color. it's like strongsad in the flesh

silver would have been 1,000 times better.

LOL, Yeah, it is pretty suddle though. I have seen a few versions of the aviator grey, and I think the TT is the most suttle of the bunch. Escalade Aviator is pretty in your face, but that is becuase they throw a bunch of pearl into it. It really came out nice, and it is going to look really good. Silver is cool, and I almost went that, but I am not keeping it original and nor do I want it to be a purist car. The purists will have a fit with it, but meh, they will never own this beast, so they shouldnt lose sleep over it. You will have to see it in person, but it is really calm. Maybe when we run laguna Derek we can compare paint!!
Go work on your Precious silver car DUDE!!

i meant silver would have been better simply because it wasn't aviator gray ..lol. not because of a purist thing... otherwise i'd be marching the gobi beige flag for my UR..... and that AIN'T happenin

specifically because of my hatred for the gold colored buicks and olds' of the same URQ era.

I'm disappointed in the color Hank. Sorry. But...if you like it, that's all that matters.

It will probably look really good when it's all said and done. I just can't wait for next year when we have a bunch of 034 20vt cars at Miller.

Welcome back Hank. Glad to see you are getting going on the UrQ again. It looked kind of sad just sitting there the last time I dropped by. The 034 conversion on mine is done and running like a champ! Drop me a line, I look forward to catching up.

Coupla tings: Lago rocks!
And an urq with a decent paint job in ANY colour looks great. With your understated colour choice, your wheels will make or break the look. I'd go with a black or charcoal wheel for a badass-don't-mess-with-this look.
Unless, of course, you want them to mess with you. heh, heh, heh......

OK small update. I have had a few setbacks the last week, so the progress is a little slow.
So love or hate the paint, it looks pretty darn good, and I think it is going to make the car look real trick...
First things first.. I took advantage of the oportunity with the front suspension and transmission out to redue the front suspension....

I got some cool stuff from 034 like solid subframe mounts, and the speed density line stuff for motormounts and tranny mounts.. The stuff is really really nice. I recomend for anybody on build quality alone. I cant wait to try it out. Everything was right on as far as fit and finish.
I ened up putting a tranny out of a 5ktq, so I will have a little taller 5th gear for cruising. I thought about going 4.11s but that thought only lasted a second.. I want to drive this car...
Next up, the motor.. I posted some other things worried about my piston and block setup, but I am at peace now. It will work wonderfully. I end up with a 42 thousanths quench which is plenty. Here the motor is getting assembled by me.. The rings were gapped and positioned, and placed in. It seem interesting that JE wants you to position the rings... hard to believe that htey dont move at all after a few thousand miles.

So yeah, the motor got assemled, and this is what the build came down to in the end..
JE 81.5 with a 8.4 CR
SCAT rods
RS2 mains
new Rod bearings as well
everything balanced and blueprinted
new seals
7a oil pan with ANN windage and 7a pickup
ARP Mains(yeah bout that later on)
7a Crank micro polished
New Water pump and rollers
Oh, I almost forgot.. I made up the front pully with the crank wheel on it.. Man I am stingy. I should just buy them from 034, becuase everytime I set out to make one, and it is always a PITA. This time I actually beleive that i got a worker, and it will work..
anywho, here is an assembly shot

So yeah, the ARP mains had a hold up, but that is how any engine building works out.. 034 is always awesome in the customer suport department, and we will have the motor done and in the car by Wendsday night!!!!!!
I also am fiddling with the ANN intake manifold.. I am going to make it work, but after some heavy mods!!! Stay tunned for that!! it is going to be sweeet.
Oh and the head got cleaned up by me. I didnt take too much material out, just smoothed out casting marks, and lapped in the valves. It looks good. Only thing is now I want to put in HD springs, as the gt30r is staring at me on the shelf wanting to rev to 8k. I was just going to include that as part of "stage II" but taking keepers off is a PITA. So my funds are almost depleted, but this should be a worthwhile splurge
OK, so thats whats happening!!!
Comments, questions??

Definitely splurge now. As you said, taking keepers off is a PITA.

Darin, that is an MC1 block actually. I t is the only block I have ever owned!! And I have ran it in 3 different cars/setups!!! LOL, it just keeps getting bored to the next job!!! gotta love audi blocks...
Yeah bout that date.. I really should change it!! Every time I mean to, and everytime I dont. I will make a mental note.
Yeah, RScoupe, I dont really have 200 bones to spend on springs, but it is not worth the 100 dollars in gaskets and effort to spend the 200 bucks eventually(hey I am pretty good at this rationalizing thing arnt I?)
Yep, The progress is going pretty good.. I have motivation.. I dont have a car, and I need a new girlfriend!! LOL

Build the car, get the girl.
(if you get the girl first, you wont have the money to finish the car, and the type of girl you want would love to ride in a fast car...)
