Lol this is classic oldschool audi stuff.

Why was the enrichment off? I'd say because that is the proper way to tune!

Yes lol, but I should have turned it back on!

So I got the ecu setup right, I think anyway.

Is flooded now though. So it's still not starting. I have Dace on the red courtesy phone...

Oh dear God what a nightmare.

Dace was there trying to help. There is waaay too much fuel being injected for some reason. Then the laptop died. Ross is pretty much at his wits end,I feel so bad. He has been walking a mile to the auto parts store, back and forth today.

He's going to tow the car the last 200 miles tomorrow.

So something that has been starting flawlessly from 0 degrees c to positive 30 suddenly won't start despite spending hours troubleshooting.

In at a loss now, I'm wondering of somehow injectors are firing simultaneously again, that would seriously not be cool. I'll have him pull the fuel rail when he gets home and check.

Who knows, maybe it'll start at 4k feet vs 8 or 9k.

This sucks so damn bad. I wish I was there to help. I feel so terrible. I put so much damn work into that car to make sure it'd be able to drive 2k miles.

What a failure.

It's not a failure! You just didn't anticipate the changes needed for running at altitude. You did everything you could to make it right!

Man I've spent more time dealing with this than enjoying my family while on vacation. My conscience is just killing me.

Sorry to hear, you worked so hard trying to make it as good as you could. Just remember how good you tried to make it and how hard you tried to make it right after the sale. It's not your fault it went south in an untested condition. Props for giving it your all!

4FOXSNAKES

seriously though

for fuck sakes, does this car need to break in the new owner prior to mounting? 2000 miles is a long, long way with lots of awful jarring bumps along the way. Hopefully it is just a software/tuning issue and not something with the cleaned up wiring or something lame.

Wishing you guys both the best, if he has triple A Gold (100$) those last 200 miles should be free. I would be happy he's that close to home.

Any chance the MAT failed, and it thinks it's -40*?

IMO, not sure what it's worth, you'd have to have some pretty crazy baro compensation to cause this large of an issue from altitude alone.

It's gotta be something stupid. I seriously doubt the barometric change is enough to cause this. Unless it's all that damn pot smoke in the air....then I could understand

They dont call it the mile high state for nothing

That is a really good point Ed, he mentioned that it was 40... But I wonder if that was misread. I can ask Dace. My MAT did read high but it was consistent.

Ugh. We'll see when he gets it home and has a good space to work.

Okay guys, last bit of help needed. Ross will be taking the car to a shop in Denver. Where is the best place for him to take it? Free tow insurance takes it to the closest qualified shop... kinda bs but that's where we're at. Any help is appreciated! x-posting on QW

Apikol is in Denver, so is 3zero3 motorsports, both are competent old audi shops....I do not know if either has experience with Vems though.

This poor guy has had the worst time with this...

After getting a quote of $1000 to tow it home by his insurance company since they will only tow to a certified repair facility he was in a pinch, again. I called Doug at Apikol and got him in there.

Then, he couldn't call his insurance company to get them to tow it there since there is some kind of telecommunications outage in the area. He can text only from the coffee shop were he's waiting. So, I called his insurance company for him and then let Doug know the car was on it's way and what I knew about its' problem.

THEN, the first tow truck broke down. All four micro locks on the thing wouldn't release, plus a coolant leak. WTF.

You just can't make this shit up.

As far as what's going on, the car is getting hammered with fuel. It's not just altitude. The fuelling is not that different between here and sea level. Not enough to cause such a rich condition. Either there was an existing condition that was not evident at low altitude that came up at 8k ft. or something might have gone wrong enroute. It seemed so obvious that it was just altitude but I pulled a shit load of fuel out of the thing and it still was flooding. I couldn't get a log either because the ecu kept dropping the connection with my laptop. I have 3 logs with nothing on them. Sux.

Anyway, Ross is in as good of spirits as he can be. He holds no responsibility to Matt, and was really clear about that. We were having a beer and he was quick to say how good of a guy Matt was. I called bullshit and told him that Matt was a fucker(JK ;) ). Seriously, I've never known anyone to spend so much time post-sale with someone in a situation like this! Maybe I've only dealt with assholes, but Matt has really gone out of his way to try to make this right. You guys are all not surprised by this, I'm sure, but I just wanted to give him some credit in all of this.

Now, Matt, if you're reading this(and you probably are). Get the hell off here and go spend time with your family!!! :)

I was going to say, Apikol is probably the best choice. Quite the amazing turn of events. The rest of my week is a bit lighter if any additional support is needed (and I'm in the Longmont office if a Nitro Old Chub is needed)!

Ross just told me the 60-2 trigger wheel weld broke and the wheel was touching the sensor. They are going to weld it back up when Doug gets back and load up the last modified config I gave him and try it out. No spark would certainly cause a super wet plug... Lol. Ugh!

Is that an 034 product by chance? ;)

Hope it's up and running now!

Sounds like it was 180° off. It's getting rewelded now so hopefully they can get it fired up.
