It's looking better and better with the details I'm getting about it. It was maintained meticulously with no expense spared (as evidenced by the receipts I've seen) and has been gone though by apikol and zero three zero among others recently.

This might just be the one that takes the cake despite the miles... That's the only thing that worries me, but it's probably in better shape than a modestly maintained 130k mile car could hope to be.

Well that would be near impossible to find lol too bad AWD is a must. My e39 touring is a real 6 speed, not a swap. Currently only 2 state side. It came from Sweden. Has a plethora of dinan parts and VAC cams...oh oh and did I mention it hangs doors with e39 M5's!

If you get it you should buy my 3 good Ronals so you have spares (or trade me those 4 ;-) ).

Yeah, it'd have to be swapped. I'd consider m54 MT touring too in awd format and even 3 series versions of the same. I still don't think they offer a better package than the audi does though.

Does yours really hang with M5s? That's pretty unbelievable and awesome if so.

Ed, I'd definitely sell you those if I had nice replacements for them. They do fit the car pretty well though.

And if he doesn't want them, I do! :)

Gorgeous Avant, btw. Hope you end up picking this one up!

Well, maybe Carlisle will be the perfect place to make it happen Kevin. I need something bigger than stock to replace them though as this has Porsche big reds on the front!

I hope I get it too. Just have to make sure it makes sense from a reliably and financial standpoint since the car will have to be shipped, etc.

Apikol will be doing a PPI on the blue avant next week. :)

And I think the Ronals will stay. They've been with the car since before 2003 so it just seems like they should stay on it.

Lol @ the t44 avant being ugly, the slabby 20v versions kinda are but the 20v is just right. The UrS avant is a bit better but while the front end may look a bit more modern it does so in a sort or bulbous, stuck between 80s and 90s sort of way. The overhangs on these car is bad enough, no need to make the nose seem even larger. Plus the awkward interior with "fat" added here and there on the dash and door cards. Not to mention the weight. The chassis rigidity difference is negligible as both cars are constructed quite similarly, I've had both on lifts and wrenched pretty hard on them and they all twist about the same, lol. Now if you are just talking about the hatch... That means you don't like the UrQ shape either... And that says a lot right there, lol.

Apikol says it's the nicest 200 they work on. Needs almost nothing, but the full ppi will come later in the week.

Sounds like the clutch suffers from high engagement, engine and trans mounts are 034 (ticking time bomb), ac comp has a very slight weep as does trans selector shaft area, and Michelin man hose is a bit soft. Not much else to report apparently. The owner has been very up front about everything so far too. I think we'll work something out come the end of the week. Just need to arrange transportation after that and maybe have apikol throw some parts in the trunk for it / possibly do a clutch.

Nice find once again Austin. That one really reminds me of my sedan when I picked it up. Very similar condition. I'm not sure it's worth the asking price compared to the blue one considering all the maintenance and upgrades the blue one has had.

I'm pretty close to making a deal on the blue one. Just need to gather my thoughts and see about shipping.

I could drive it out unless you're trying to keep miles off it. Schedule is pretty accommodating in the next week or two

That'd be great, but I'm not sure it'd be any cheaper than having it shipped. Lets see:

From Denver to Boulder, CO is about 29 miles. Figure 23 miles per gallon from a sorted 200 20v avant or whatever you're driving and $3.20 for premium as conservative estimates. $4.03. Let's call it an hour plus an hour to get things ready, meet with the seller, etc.

From Boulder, CO to Baltimore, MD is roughly 1681 miles. $233. 24 hours not including sleep.

You'd need a hotel along the way. Figure $125 for a decent one.

The flight back home for you would cost around $350. 3 hours plus another two for before and after airport transportation, etc. So 5 hours.

You'd then need a cab or maybe have the seller pick you up? Let's say $50 plus another hour.

I'd want to pay for your meals too, so call it $35 a day for two days.

Then I'd want to pay you for your time. I'm not sure what it's worth to you per hour.

Totals:
Fuel, hotel, and meal expenses = 237.27 + 125 + 350 + 50 + 35 + 35 = $832.27
Time = 2 + 24 + 5 + 1 = 32 hours * XX per hour (lets just say $15) = 480. I'd just round up to $500 which I feel is pretty fair for the job actually.

So now we're looking at about $1,332 for the whole thing. If you think you can do it for cheaper, let me know! I still need to get a quote from a shipper, but I don't think it will be quite that much.

Deposit placed!

This will be the first time I've ever bought a car completely sight unseen, but I have enough evidence to suggest that it's quite alright. Apikol has inspected it, the pictures and receipts speak for themselves, and the past two owners clearly have the means to keep it maintained the way it should be.

Drew C and I are in talks of him driving it to me becuase the cheaper car shipping services are too sketchy, and the expensive ones like intercity lines are just a bit too much.

Assuming all goes well, this will be another incredible story about just how awesome this oldschool audi community truly is. I'm sending a large sum of money to a total stranger having faith that he'll sign the title over to me. Then I'm putting the vehicle in another stranger's hands to get it to me. I have faith in the community :)
