Hey guys,

Yeah, we have had a trying January/Febuary with the 07k swap. Tons of little issues that are involved when trying to mount a transverse motor longitude. Most of the big issues were with oiling. We ended up going through a couple of engines learning the painful lessons of oil demands, oil filter demands, line demands, oil capacities and how VVT really works on these motors. Frustrating probably isn't the best word to describe the long days and nights getting this car wrapped up so that folks in line for pans and motors are taken care of with something I can sleep at night with.

That time is now. I think this last revision of parts and concepts has solved most of the issues. We have clean filtering with no bypass caused by pressure differential across the filter housing, we have outstanding oil pressure monitored in 3 different locations in the engine, we have bearing clearances set for 750whp engine output, and the engine is responding nicely. We actually tore the current motor down after break in procedures to check bearing life and cylinder wear. All was good, so onto the power pulls

I talked Sean into the meaty MagnaFuel 750 pump that is really a nice piece. It is a bit loud, but it is the part. Very good fuel delivery so far and very simple hook up. I am really happy with it. We have 1000cc injectors in there now at 85psi base pressure for an effective 1350cc injector. We could stand to lean out a tad, but I feel more comfortable at that .79 lambda level at over 200whp/L. We are pretty much out of fuel. I think I'll try and talk Sean into either 1200s over pressured to be closer to 1600s, or maybe just run my 1600s in there. Regardless, we hvae an important magazine opportunity with the car coming up that has put a tremendous amount of effort and long nights into getting the car feature material

So yeah, pretty darn cool. Loaded up on our dyno, we are seeing almost identical spool to our billet k26's on a 2.2L AAN.

Image

The Billet k26 is the dotted lines at 31psi on a built VEMS 20vt, and the solid is a 07k on HTA3582r at around 17.5psi. VVT really woke the bottom end up on this car. Here is a cool apples to apples comparo of 034's 2.9L 24v VR6 with a worked r32 head(best of both worlds in vr6 world). The turbo they are using is a PTE billet 3582r with a slightly larger compressor inducer, but more or less the same turbo. Image Yep, that is pretty much the same graph and boost for both motors, just the 07k is doing it with .4L less displacement, 100lbs less weight and far less cost. This is a bone stock 90k mile head with the carbon still on teh exhaust valves/chambers.

Stock cams are looking a little lethargic above 7000rpm at the 600whp level, but we will confirm that later next week. I am going to do a better job of making ProjectPad my dump for projects we are doing, and leaving the scraps for Instagram and FB.

Hank. Awesome work. To get to this point (35r spool = k26 spool) and have everything ELSE work out must feel magnificent and gratifying after all that. Very happy you didn't just start shipping out motors as doing this from Ontario wouldn't be fun lol.

The dip is the cam switchover? Looks a lot like our qsv switchover before we dialed it in with VEMS and an N75.

Congrats guys, can't wait to become a part of the 07k club (vicariously through dad, haha)

Oh, and just do it with the injectors. Come on!

I've already offered up loaner ID2200's for science. I wanna see this thing over 700whp. Do it.

 Knowing this is going to make it really hard to use this AAN shortblock I have  Now I just need to convince my wife that spending money on an 07k is better than leasing a DD.

Hank awesome work man, I think it's your attention to R&D that has set you apart in the community here. Awesome stuff, it's just done too damn well.

Can't wait to read the magazine

Truly amazing work Hank!!

I can truly appreciate what it takes to even come close to what have been accomplished here. I like the fact that you've been open, and honest about the problems that you guys have been troubled with. It really says a lot about your character. The quality of your work is second to none. It takes so much effort to take something, and make it look like it belongs there. I do believe that when things go wrong we learn so much more in the end. You have a great product here, and I know I've been seriously considering the 07k swap for my sport.

Keep up the great work.

Aagh... this is the kind of stuff that keeps tempting me to build an 07k rather than my 06A... nice work guys

Matt I can't wait.

As soon as that engine lands please let me know. I'm really busy with college at the moment, but I'll be right up :-)

I'm sure your dad's car will be awesome. For me, I couldn't imagine that kind of power in a sport quattro. That engine in a 2500lb car that would be crazy for sure :D

Cheers.

Craig.

well you can use a smaller turbo! lol. GTX3071 on a tube mani with the VVT and QSV... sounds like a nice 3krpm spool and 400whp capable turbo to me!

I need 07K+01E.

This kind of settles it, not going to throw any hardware at the 3B, enjoy it chipped then swap to 07K when the time comes for big power. the 3B will go into a small chassis or something...

Now I just need some moolah.

great work hank. I personally have a nice grin on my face with the performance of the billet K26. I had Kelly take my car for a spin a couple weeks ago, and the look on his face was pretty significant. I wish I could be involved but my job keeps that from happening.
