I am pretty confident that 034 uses man labor and a dremel with a stone on it to bore theirs out. I have done it a bunch in the past to get the gaskets bigger. When I did it I would not put much pressure on the gaskets with the stone and just rotate the tool around like I am stirring some soup. I'd check it every 15-20 stirs to see where I was at with size. It worked pretty well. Like you said, as long as you are getting .5mm ( or 20 thousandths) the actual roundness isn't a huge deal

6 c4s in the family. 4 s cars (dad's, and one per daughter), one a6 5cyl TDI avant, and my tdi s hybrid. And the lonely 4k, trying to play along with it's AAN.
Edit: plus two parts s cars

Wahoo, update time!
But not on the 4k.
I fixed some shit on the geo last weekend. These things are made of tin... scary stuff. No "fixed" pictures, but it was just some ugly welds and a lot of undercoat. just imagine the holes being replaced with steel pieces

Turbz and head gasket for the real car should be here this week!

Ugh, waiting is the worst! Especially when relying on usps tracking. No updates in 4 days. I know it's out there somewhere!

Hank and Dave took most excellent care of me and got me a head gasket next day, damn! And my turbo came so I'm just very excited to get her going!
But it looks like the flywheel in the TDI either came loose or something is messed up with the clutch

. I'll be dropping that tranny tomorrow instead of putting the head on, I guess. How many times can my plans to drive this beast be foiled? Lol

So turbo came undamaged? Flat rate international is dicey business!

Thanks craig. Yeah sucks about the TDI, but what ya gonna do? Finish the 4kq I guess

Got the turbz assembled yesterday and mounted on the exhaust manifold, but after that Sarah picked Maddex and I up and that was it for the day.
What's a 96 01E box go for with a .56 6th gear in it? Gear(s) cost me $1100ish.

Matt,
Not sure what the gearbox is worth. Martin may be a better guy to ask.
I know you're in project overload at the moment, but it would be sad to see this car stripped.
I was really impressed with how well that car went. Maybe you should just put it aside and your
mindset may change after the frustration has settled.
Anyhoo good luck with the 4kq
Cheers,
Craig

I ask $1800 for the ones I've got.

Things are looking good man! Sorry to hear about the TDI though, It's a really cool swap, I hope you don't decide to part it out.
