It was a K26 Marty.

So I had a problem with my clutch slipping when cold but would stop when warmed up. since I was doing all this work and had the clutch out, figured Id look into fixing the issue. A few years back, I got a clutch from 2B and paid a pretty price for it. (500) I felt like it was a bit much at the time but high performance costs money right? come to find out that the material they used in the disk wasnt so superior. I had a local company rebuild my clutch setup and them being experts in the field told me the facts. the disk had a regular fiber disk on the flywheel side and pucks on the pressure plate side. the material the pucks were made out of was by their definition garbage. and that I had overpaid for the clutch by alot. they replaced the flywheel side fiber disk and the PP side with ceramic pucks. they also machined the PP surface so I could reuse it. all this set me back $133 bones. Kinda seems like a better price than buying a new setup at twice the price or waaay more.

I neglected to take any pics of the before but I just snapped a few of the finished product.

Im also currently still waiting for the parts to come back from being balanced so hopefully I will be putting the engine back together this weekend. I cross my fingers at least.

I also started working on the compressor side of the turbo cleaning it up to polish it as well as the intake and other aluminum. I felt it was also kinda necessary to remove any blasphemous markings on the turbo that would be going into an Audi. this is where I am at this particular stage.

So, I havn't posted for a few as I ran into a snag wich set me back 5 weeks. But, I should have an internally balanced crank and parts back within a few days. ordered all the gaskets and seals earlier so I have them already.

got a bunch of suspension goodies ordered and paid for, although, no email/update on weather they shipped or not. kinda dissapointed about that lack of service. I think it would be nice to know the true stattus of my order (aaahhemm 034).

hopefully, I will be putting the engine back in the car a week from now so I can redo the radiator, front crossmember, charge piping, install A/C parts and get it working, suspension upgrades. I miss my car real bad. I want to drive it!

Good to hear things are moving forward. Who's balancing the engine?

Hmmm...034MS...I've always gotten really good response and service from 034. Even with regular ground shipping, in-stock parts are here in about two days after order.

Now, get your car done so we can go on a drive!

Or you can come over and help wrench on the urq to help me try and make IT to BB2011.

Chris... who are you kidding.... you got two cars to chose from to bring down. If the UR isn't done by then, well......bring the coupe? what did you need help with? I can spare some time on the weekends sometimes. gotta plan it though. I might be able to swing some time sunday if you need?

Peter, I think its to make it good and grabby, but not too grabby. kind of a race clutch thats not so wiplash if your drivin it around town on a sunday. best of both worlds.

so I spent some time today working on the compressor side of the turbo. I have had a fair bit of time spent porting heads over the last 10 or so years so I decided to trim the extra unnecessary metal on the housing and clean up the look of it. I did already post a beforeish picture but I will post it again so I have both side by side to compare. Im not completely finished with it yet but it gives a very good idea on how it will look when it is completely done. I for one like how it is turning out.

once this is completed I will finish up the intake manifold as well. I think I will like how my engine bay is going to look when I am done. It sure is a lot of work to make all this happen but I love my car and don't really think about how tedious it is to do. I am kind of meticulous about how I do things anyway.

So I need to post what has been going on. a couple of fridays ago I got off work(8:30am) and headed down to "The Lab" to cut a bit off the back of my flywheel before taking it to the machine shop. Hank was gracious enough to offer his lathe to do so. I did so and 4 hrs later got it down to 21.6lbs. Im happy with that no problem. I say Thank You to Hank for the use of said lathe. promptly I took all the needed parts to the machine shop and dropped them off. Two weeks later, I have my crank back (zero balanced) FW back (zero balanced) new rods (weight matched) and my origonal pistons (also matched) back in my posession and ready to reassemble. Saturday, I start the task of reassembly.

as of sunday, the engine is back together, head torqued, oil pan on, block touched up.

I also recieved the suspension parts I ordered from 034 saturday( since I called and pointed out to them they spaced it off.) of course there was an excuse, but I know how the game is played. In the end, always keep the cusomer informed about what is going on. nuff of that.

I get so busy wrenching that I forget to take pics of progress, but you all know what an engine looks like. you can wait for the more sexy pictures of shiny aluminum BLING!! right? patience grasshoppers, you will see the result in due time..(when I get some time to sand and buff the damn things)

either way, this thing is moving forward and I will forego some of the mods as I want a running, driving car to play with this summer. Im tired of waiting. I will be wrenching on it this weekend and I'll try to get more progress pics!

Again, Thanks Hank for your help In getting things done. dealing with the machine shop for the little things. letting me use your lathe. and prob some future help with the re-fab work to come. Your a great asset to the MG community!

Ok, so Im pretty much nearly done with the blinging. I have been spending what spare time I have bead blasting, sanding, more sanding, and polishing, and polishing, and polishing....

Granted, if you look close enough, yes there are only certain parts that are polished, and most people would agree: why put effort into parts that are covered or hard to see? But, here are the results of all than time spent...

Yes, the turbo housing is not in the pictures. Hank has it currently and is welding up the diverter valve holes. and that means I will be shaving the last of the excess aluminum off the housing. I will add pics of that at a later date. I just did not feel like modifying my oil lines over what I have already been doing anyway.

I have also found myself an alternate mode of transportation that also looks pretty nice if I might add.

Dang Dave!! I can't even seem to be able to get my motor together and in the car and you have time to polish? I'm impressed. I'm not a real chrome fan, but I do like the raw metal look and polished aluminum. It looks like you are well on your way to being done for the Vegas GTG. That will look nice in your already very nice coupe.

OK, the hours I work during the week leave me entirely exhausted. its hard to find the time and energy to update this thing, but it has to be done, so....here's an update.

I promised pics of the flywheel after I turned it. I could have taken more off but, anyone that has done this would know how long it takes to do this and I was kind of in a hurry, not to mention running on no sleep for over 24hrs.

I have also had Hank weld up my turbo compressor housing as the diverter valve part of the housing was in the way of the oil feed line.

I got more of the engine together and pending other minor mods, have about a couple hrs to have together complete. it is slow going, but I want it to be pretty this time around and Im willing to take my time to get it right.

and one other thing I said I was going to do was to redo the front snub mount in something that would be more friendly and less messed up. I went through two rubber mounts and decided to make it better. I wanted to use a dogbone mount easily available at any local parts store for cheap. I built the brackets myself with steel I had for fabing. the dogbone was 30 bucks. I think I accomplished that quite nicely.

I noticed my engine moving way too much last time I was down for the battleborn GTG when I was on the dyno, and vowed to fix the problem permanently. the remedy was two track density motor mounts and this dogbone mod. Im confident its now handled.

I have had my vems with Swanson as he was checking it out in case there were problems. there dont seem to be as far as he can tell as he ran it in his car with no issues. I decided to check out what it would take to integrate an E85 sensor into it while he still had it. He is modifying it to run with it, and I will add the sensor later when I come across one in a junkyard. I had a chat with Savagerocco and it looked like something worth while to integrate into my build.

OK, so its up to date as of now. not sure if I forgot anything but if I did, it will get added or edited later. thanks for watching, and all the  comments!

The dogbone is a carquest mount p# 31-8200

It is slightly twisted so you have to put it in a vise and straighten it. No big deal.

Need to order a Cobra head for my turbo. Need to get my ecu back from Swanson. Hopefully he has the e85 mod done. I'm literally minutes away from firing this thing up. Then its down to the lab I go to get a v-band put on my charge pipe. I can't wait!

I'll take a few pics of how she sits and post them in a few.
