Custom front strut housings for UrS4/UrS6 coilovers...

Post by EDIGREG »

There has been some demand since I built my coilovers, so I am making these modified strut housings available.

The modifications include a lower seat machined from 4130 hardened steel, removal of OE lower spring perches, and lowering of the steering arm to make room for a 5" coil sleeve and restore factory tie rod geometry. I can also clearance the edges of the steering arms and clock the arms inwards if you prefer (only necessary if running tires wider than 255 - NOTE that this may require shortening of tie rod in order to get toe in spec).

The cost is $350 shipped to your door. You must send me a set of CLEAN, BARE strut housings. I am no longer providing a core exchange program. Note that this includes only modified strut housings, no additional coilover parts or POR15 coating as pictured.

I have only performed these modifications on UrS strut housings, however the same procedures could easily be done on housings for other chassis.

This job is a decent PIA and I think $350 is VERY worth the price. I would have had you do mine if this way available when I did them. T44 uprights are almost identical for anyone wondering.

how much more or less work would be involved for a CQ front and rear?

same price?

if so i may go ahead and search for some spare struts and such.

Well, it's more work in that, for the UrS, only the fronts need modified. Otherwise it is the same. Shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

Hey Ed- I sent you an email based on some address you posted on quattroworld about a week ago. Not sure if it's the right address or it went into your spam folder or whatt? For some reason it wont let me PM you here either.

Replied to mail. I don't know why, but it keeps telling me that the user no longer exists? I have successfully PM'd with other people on this site. Strange.

Yes, send me a pm

You will be able to go as low as you want - the physical limitation is the control arms and the bottom of the car. And of course shock travel.

I know I am raising the dead here. I figure posting this might help others aside from having a private side convo.

My question for Ed and anyone else to chime in: Would this work to raise the car another 2 inches over stock? I want to lift my avant! With your experience modifying the struts, are there any issues/limitations aside from getting a longer travel insert (bilstein HD)? I might start a separate post, but why not go straight to the source..

THANKS!

Running any kind of aftermarket camber plates won't help with lifting the car. You'll need a spacer of sorts to space where the spring mounts away from the plate. These will actually help with lowering.
