Aaron: now turbo LS1 Coupe Quattro

Post by speeding-g60 »

finally said fuck it all. done with Quattro drag racing.

after the mishap on the only launch i made this year, the amount of time and money to correct only to find more and more problems, i have given up officially on 4cyl AWD drag racing.
money focus is the tube chassis car and not repairing the awd car anymore.

bought a 99 GMC Sierra from the auction for $783 after all fees. harvest the LM7 aka iron blocked LS1 motor, and sell off the rest of the stuff to make back more than the price with free motor.

the final deciding factor was to sell the dogbox, as that will fund ALL of what i need to spend to backhalf the car, 4-link RWD it, and LS turbo or nitrous the car. the goal was to not spend tube chassis car funds.

done and thru with it all. the goal is simple and FUN. running that car at the level it is, is really hard if not doable by myself, and i have had to do it a few times. too much work. i am slowing the car down, jacket and helmet not full fire suit, parachute, license, etc. i want under 135 and not less than 10.00 and i can control ALL of that. i will save the fastest quickest goals for the tube chassis car.

just a couple pix to show how it is going. i am going to work on the 40v 4.2L V8 Quattro Corrado i started a few years ago, and let racing sit aside for next year. slowly also work in the now car to rwd transformation.

It is all about having fun! I have nothing against LS swaps, so many haters but it's a great motor with limitless potential and so cheap! Keep it up :)

Kirk, i was going to do the traditional backhalf and 4 link with 9", thats the industry standard basically. BUT, last night while staring at the car, i think i am going a different route now.

keeping the whole Audi rear suspension, subframe, hubs/spindles, shocks/struts, everything but the diff. and using something like a 2015 Mustang IRS rear diff chunk and mate the inner flanges/axle portion to the Audi outer portion/cv's. needs a custom driveline anyways and this seems infinitely simpler, faster, and cheaper. is it the BEST> no, but its good enough as i am taking this car back some notches to make it fun, not tons of work.

Distance from firewall to acc drive? I've always figured an LS that cleared the steering rack would hit the grill.

unfortunately i have no data for you. my firewall was modified long ago and i use a VW MK3 rack so completely different. i can measure the motor to drive acc for you though.

15/772.....

I been working on this. The motor is mounted the crossmember is channeled and the rear diff is in.

Image

Working on the straight line. Checking the line from balancer to rear diff input, thru the crankshaft output.

Image

I dropped the front crossmember to accept a lower engine mounting. The motor is solid mounted to the stock mounting locations and also uses a mid plate to the subframe. Shaved off the stock Trans mount pads while in there.

And I put a Lincoln Mark 8 LSC aluminum third member in the rear subframe. Now waiting for axles to be built.

Got the complete rear section just for the center.

Image

They are pretty close in size, too.

Image

And the other car gets love too. Wing is finally completed.
