Titel?

Hey guys, it's not long now!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday-Tuesday
Threw in everything that's too much of a hassle to get into place with an engine in the way.
Nothing noteworthy except that everything is looking pretty awesome
Image
Image
Image

-

Wednsday-Thursday
I wanted to get some underbody on the inner fender that we modified. And I also had the 034 top mounts laying around, so I got 3 birds with one stone and took the struts down for sandblast, paint and mounts and got so much more space to work with.
Image
Image
Image

-

Friday-Saturday
Installed the newly painted struts, also new brake hoses and dust boots for the dampers.
And ofc, the powerplant is back down, which is way more interesting! Kinda fiddly to do on your own when you're really scared of scratching your new painjob... But in the end we got there! The engine is noticeably higher up with the new mounts. But I'm a bit dissapointed about my 034 crank breather hose. It's way too short and points almost in the wrong direction even though it's supposed to be for this engine...

Tinkering
I sacrificed a couple of these old rubber things to make a custom pipe-keeper-upper.
And also a new mount for whatever this is called (connects the carbon canister to the intake)

Hey guys, quick question!

My fenders are complete poo... I actuallky threw them out at one point, but had to fish them back out of the dumpster when I realized that I needed them a little bit longer..

I'm not gonna spend time and money on buying new ones and painting them since the whole car hopefully will be painted next spring.
But that leaves the question, how do I survive this season without looking like complete garbage?

My first idéa was to just stickerbomb the whole fender, but the money just dosn't seem worth it even for a 'season-fix'.
And right now I'm leaning towards just getting one big sticker to cover the worst, and a couple of 'band aids' for the smaller ones.

But I don't know, I've kinda snowed in on the whole sticker thing and would like another point of view.

Here's a pic of the weight reduction so far...

Driveable?

I have a shit-ton of pics for you all today. I've also been recording some video, but that will be another day.

Anyway, I've been focusing really hard on getting the car ready for the road the last week. I haven't encountered too much trouble.
A couple of issues, but most of the time was spent just figuring out vacuum lines and wire management.

I had some trouble getting the new lines for the oilcooler, the guy who made them screwed up, so they had to be redone.
And then my radiator, which worked perfectly fine 2 months ago and has since laid in the corner, sprung a leak pretty much everywhere...

Anyway, pic dump

Looks like some excellent progress!

About the fender, why not just get it vinyl wrapped or plastidipped for the season?

Yeah, I ended up ordering some stickerbomb vinyl. Thought that I might as well have some fun with it

Quickie

Just a small pic-dump today, but I'm trying to get a vlog together 'til Monday.

BOV recycle-pipe (what's the name I'm looking for?)
Also first time welding aluminum, maybe shouldn't have started with 2mm :hehe:

inb4 'stickerbombing is stupid'...
My fenders are absolute garbage, so I thought stickerbomb wrap was better than see through...
And I'm having the car repainted next year anyways so it's just for this summer.

Sitrep

The car is now FINALLY legal again. A long, SLOW, expensive process has come to an end. I got the go-ahead on Monday so I've been driving it everyday this week.
Everything seems to be working fine apart from the gearbox that now have developed some leakage from a driveshaft, and a small miss on idle/hesitation above 3k rpm.

I've measured all the sparkwires, and they're all on ~5.8kΩ. The spark plugs all have good color and no cylinder stick out from the crowd. The rotor and cap is both brand new (but I can already see burns/crust on the inside of the cap?)

Anyway, I might be doing some kind of 'season-end/finale' type Vlog if people are interested where I basically just talk a little about final part of the registration and say some quick thanks.
I'm also gonna share pics and stuff I take throughout the rest of the year, and ofc ask for help with problems if they would occur

Is anyone still curious about this project?
I hope so, because it's time to plan for the winter 2016/17

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So last season I kinda fell of the grid. As you can see, in my last post I stated that I'd do an "end-of-the-season" vlog.
And I did record one, but I never got an opportunity to use the footage because I went through a car-guys worst nightmares.

My car got stolen.

6 days after I got it street legal, some fucking waste of a human took my baby right from outside my apartment.
The full story is FAR TOO LONG to write out, because every single step has been HELL.

To give you a taste, even after the car got impounded by the cops, THEY FUCKING LOST IT AGAIN.
It feels like I've been a part of a really shitty comedy movie about a guy who can't catch a break.

But anyhow, as mentioned, the car IS back with me. Albeit a bit roughed up. (pics at the bottom)
And by now it's time to sack up and prepare for next year.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The plan for next season WAS pretty much just about a front/rear subframe restoration with some minor details.
But the theft gave me a bit more to do so...

Apart from this, the instrument cluster is ripped out (also why the car stopped. No battery-bulb = No alternator)
The center console is out of place, a bunch of plastic are broken/missing and it's filled with drugs and or paraphernalia.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah... I'm gonna clean out my garage during the coming week so I'll have some space to work.
Then I'm gonna start stockpiling parts and should've started to pull stuff apart by the last of this month.

We'll do the subframes, fix the interior, tune the engine, and then I'll have to make a decision about weather or not to respray it.
I wasn't planning on doing that at the moment, but it feels like I might as well now...

Stay tuned for the future !

I've had a car stolen before, and can empathize... that's a horrible feeling.

Looks like it's fairly simple stuff to fix, pain in the ass and aggravation not withstanding.

Keep us up to date as you make progress, it's always a good read.

Yeah it wasn't fun. I've cooled off now, but I was pretty much fuming for 2 weeks straight
And as you said, easy stuff, just really annoying.

Ready, Set, Go!

I did manage to get my workshop cleaned up and organized this week.
And with that out of the way I finally pushed both my wifes car and my wounded warrior in to dry.

Image

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After I got home I made a bit of a shopping list, and tomorrow I'll place a bunch of orders for bushings and stuff.
Don't know if I'll get the time to do anything noteworthy during the coming week though. I'm expecting a bit of work and I should also receive my new company car which is gonna need some lights and stuff :D

Creeping up

My own little start-date was the first weekend in November, and so far so good.
Everything have been ready to go for a while, so I've not felt any preassure to get things done yet.
But last weekend I just felt like tinkering, so I went ahead and got things going.

I did receive most of, if not all my bushings during the week. So I got bushings home for the whole front/rear axle. I also have a chipped ECU and WG-spring on my way home.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not much done, but a start is a start.

Image
Image
Image
Image

Everything is loose and ready to move except for the dashboard itself.
And I got to say, the whole thing looks a lot happier after just a quick cleaning!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next weekend the dashboard is coming out, I'm also gonna take a closer look at the steeringwheel lock.
It LOOKS like it's just 2 bolts and some force, which would be awesome. I don't feel like swapping the whole column.

The turnaround

Now the mess they made gone, and it already feels a bit better. :)

I had a timlapse video planned for this week, but because of a troublesome harddrive i pretty much lost all the footage. :/
Better luck next time I guess, but I'll share the little I got to keep.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What actually got done this week was removal of the dash and steering column.
And thank the gods for Audi's clever design here. If I had to remove it from the rack I'd be... annoyed.

Image
Image
Image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During next week I'll start picking parts from the donor and start looking for a new dash. I actually got one for for from a buddy, but it's in rough condition.
If I get a hold of something I guess I'll start putting things back, but if not I'll probably start working on the GPS and stuff.

'til next time!

Oops!

Sorry for the gap boys, I kinda forgot to update :hehe:
Anyway, I've done a bit and thought I'd just drop a bunch of pics below and then add a few lines about it at the end.

So yeah, I've removed the beaten up dash and steering column and swapped that out.
Got some more boost going with a stiffer spring and chipp.
And since I now have a reason to watch the boost I retrofitted an aftermarket gauge instead of volt.
Cleaned up the 'new' dash (what to do about the little hole? LED for something?)
Picked up 'new' cluster.

I've also taken precautions against further thefts. I've installed dual (hidden) killswitches, one for ignition and one for fuel.
And even if they somehow get the car going, I cant track it live and shut it down with a text from my phone...
I obviously can't show you any of this, but it's pretty neat stuff.

As usual, thoughts and questions are always welcome :)
