Jim,

I wrote this hoping to find out what you were running- thank you. What flywheel are you using? Hoping to keep my Fidanza.

It's a lightweight steel from Iroz. If yours is just a normal flat 7A 01E/01A style flywheel then it should be fine. Where you concerned about the aluminum, or the compatibility with the pressure plates?

Fwiw i have a fidanza 7a FW and 707 plate with no probs, mind you i have a 30r so i can run organic, a bit stiffer but very smooth engagement, no chatter, i'd def go sprung puck with over 500whp/tq .

More concerned now about the material- I'm sure the aluminum would be fine but obviously welcome any input. Fidanza confirmed that any clutch that works with stock flywheel will work w/ Fidanza.

Stock flywheel runs a solid hub, you need to make sure there's room for a sprung hub.
I'm running the 034 alum aan flywheel with an unsprung hub and I have too much gear chatter. I need to fix it still...

Car put down 480whp and 400wtq before clutch started slipping on the corn, he guesses 500whp+ is fine once I get a sufficient clutch on this setup. Marc's blended maps allow for any combination of Exx. Starts adding timing at E60. On 93 put down 360/360 with full boost by 3500rpm on the street. 25psi for pump and 30 for E85.

Next step (likely next year) is to put Shrick cams in, stronger valve springs and a new clutch/pp. Marc says 550whp w/ cams is possible, but I don't want to lose much down low. Anyone made the change from 7A to Shrick cams? Hope to be out to Carlisle next year.

Will post pics/dyno maps once I receive them.

Nice numbers! Have you played with retarding the cams at all? When I did this the car came alive, I think it was 7 degrees. It's a shame not to have cams in a cosworth head. Did Marc log turbo speed? If the turbo has life in it, I would think about cams, with the spool valve will minimize the loss in spool.

Awesome... looks right in line with what Hank told me to expect on pump gas.

Really looking forward to the graph from Marc. I bet the area under the curve is wicked.

I'll get the graphs posted as soon as I receive them. Marc says dyno shows boost hitting closer to 4k but on the street it would be 500 rpm earlier. Once again, we still havn't even pushed the turbo as my clutch is the weak point. Plan is to do new clutch, 707 pressure plate & shrick cams to take advantage of the cosworth heads up top with uprated springs and shoot for some arbitrary number that is higher than I currently have, haha. This is a street car and a build that I tried to balance sheer power with response, hence the QSV. Take delivery Sunday, will post media on here next week!

I suspect you are already taking a hit in spool just from the large port head. Most people do the head and cams at the same time, so that's why there is always a noticeable drop in spool, but I but you will not even tell. It will be a hoot when it all comes together.

Re: 1995.5 URS6 EFR 7163, UPDATE, full RS2 setup for sale

Post by 955urs6 »

Media first- here is a video of a 15-55mph 2nd gear pull, sorry I braked so early but it was nighttime.

How do I get the video to embed? The youtube /youtube button isn't working...sorry!

Well, all, I now have the car in my possession. I picked it up in Detroit from Marc/Hadyn and it has been flawless in almost 1000 miles of driving.
For anyone looking for a street setup, I do not believe at this point this combination could be improved upon (7163 w/ QSV) I'm sure the titanium rods and lightweight flywheel are helping too with how fast it revs. My clutch, a stage one spec unit, can only handle 400wtq and therefore, 480whp. So, my tune right now is "detuned" for 24psi on E85. It hits full boost by 3400. Marc is looking for the dyno plot from the run that hit 480. The clutch slipped, he got back on it and it held. On the street, the transient response of the titanium-aluminide wheel is even better than I expected. In between shifts, it is instantaneous where my RS2 before took a second to respool. With my 01E, I cruise around 3k rpm in whatever gear fits the speed. By the time my foot hits the floor, it is producing 10 psi and 24 psi comes not even a second later. This is the most responsive turbo vehicle I've been in thus far. I am supremely impressed with Marc, his fabrication, tuning and communication and would recommend him to anyone, although I'm sure you all know all of this already.

Currently fixing inop cruise control, side mirrors, sunroof, ebrake and fuel gauge.

Going forward, we are expecting 540ishwhp once I do cams, retune by Marc and put in the new Spec Stage 3+ and Sachs 707 pressure plate, I need to get exact part numbers of what I need.

I am also selling my RS2 7200 Competition turbo (OEM), RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 Bosch "green" injectors, and downpipe. I also have my MTM Stage 3 300whp tune. I would like to sell all as a package, let Marc or I know if you want it!

Hood and front bumper were repainted and I am detailing as soon as I get time- photoshoot coming next week!

Crazy how once you open up this can of worms you never run out of things to improve upon. As my fuel gauge was being looked at, we realized that 93,94,95 and 95.5 C4s have NO rear sway bar, so I have ordered a rear sway bar kit from Apikol, who also did my FMIC. Going on next week.

This swaybar was modeled after Hap's.

Re: 1995.5 URS6 EFR 7163 w/ QSV, E85 NEED EXHAUST HELP

Post by 955urs6 »

Since the new EFR has been put on, the exhaust is much quieter. I have some magnaflow muffler (not sure which), no cats, no resonator. 3" turbo back. Any suggestions for mufflers that are loud but don't drone? I would be okay with some drone if it was louder. I miss the bass of that fifth cylinder!!! I put an exhaust cutout on already that sounded like crap and has been removed.

It's the spool valve killing the sound. I am toying with ideas to keep it open except for when you really need it. Electronic actuation, or a solenoid with a pressure reservoir for control are on the list.

Thanks, that makes sense. Didn't even think of that. Next putting in cams and a new clutch. I know you said Sachs 707 pp but I couldn't find a clutch that met your suggestion, Jim. If you had a link that would be great, looking for street driveability and ability to hold 500wtq.

Thanks!

The upgraded southbend clutches use that PP. In fact that's where my PP came from, Southbend. This is basically the clutch you want

I think it will since it is for the single mass flywheel. I would call them to verify. Ask if it will fit the CQ. Or order through efiexpress

I shopped around and went with efiexpress and would highly recommend going that route.

UPDATE:

I have purchased a South Bend Stage 4 Extreme clutch (full face, cerametallic), Sachs 707pp and Fidanza LWLW through EFI Express. We are currently testing to see if Shrick cams will clear stock pistons and if they do not, I will be in a tight spot to see if I am going to replace my pistons or not. I likely will run with my current cams if the Shrick cams don't clear. We should have that information by Spring for anyone wondering. All in all, the build is almost finally complete and we will finally be able to remote tune the car to 35lbs+ of boost that it has been designed for. I will say, even at 24psi I am astounded by the response of the turbo. Does anyone know how the Xonas compare to EFRs? I know they are an improvement of the Garrett GTX line but I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on Xona vs EFR.

Thanks!

Cameron
