Matt's 2007 RS4
Re: What happens after joining a historic railroad club...
Owning a car this reliable is weird. I miss this forum, because nothing happens besides tons of driving. Although I did find the achilles heel of all this can-bus connected mumbo jumbo. I had a series of weird CEL and airbag light issues that I could not track down, a bunch of false "short to ground" issues that thankfully I was able to check and clear with VCDS. I bought a new AGM battery and swapped out the old. Viola! problems all solved and the car cranks like a mofo now! Vagcom is an absolute must with these cars, such a great security blanket.
Edit: "Born on date" of the battery I removed: 2/2006!!!!!

Re: What happens after joining a historic railroad club...
This is about to sound more glorious. I lied about keeping it stock. I negotiated a seller down to a ridiculous price for a set of Tubi mufflers for the car, and we are working out shipping details now. I also decided that since the upper control arms are shot that it was time to go adustable, and add a KW H. A. S. coilover conversion while keeping the factory DRC (you have to feel the ride to appreciate it!) so yeah, its small peanuts compared to the builds on here, but I am excited to "personalize" her a little more! I hear the Tubi is bar none the best sound you can get out of the 4.2 FSI. I'd hope so since the axle back alone costs more than most header-back kits! (I paid less than half retail for the used set I got!)
Re: What happens after joining a historic railroad club...
Yeah, Tubi and Capristo are the best by a mile.

Re: What happens after joining a historic railroad club...
I really love the Capristo, especially because they retain the factory valve capability, but I really couldn't stomach the $5,000 investment. The Tubi off the shelf isn't much better in the pricing department, but this used deal is one I absolutely had to jump on. The seller might even throw in free shipping if it ends up being cheaper than driving to meet in person. either way, Carlisle is going to be fun!!!

Re: What happens after joining a historic railroad club...
Sorry for the double post but the results are in: Seller is going to hand deliver it and I'll be installing the Tubi at Carlisle! Who wants to help?! I pay in good beer and maybe burgers if I can find a grill!
Re: Matt's 2007 RS4
Sweet! I need to maximize my time on Saturday since that is the only day I'll be there, but I'll lend a hand if I can. Hopefully you get it knocked out Friday though... the more time with the Tubi installed the better right?
Tubi and Capristo seem to be the best bets for F355s too. Ugh, if the M3 didn't blow up on me, I'd be trying to sell it and the M5 right now to buy an F355.

So the dude will be delivering them Saturday morning, I told him he has to work around the Mechanicsburg Breakfast! 3 days and counting! It's going to feel sinful taking a sawzall to an RS4!
Re: Matt's 2007 RS4
I can write you an app to fool the accelerometers in the Uber app lol

Haha... awesome! Though I must say through experience, the screamometers of the passengers outweighs the accelerometers in the app!
Re: Matt's 2007 RS4
Carlisle was as fun as it was soggy. Everythings hanging out to air dry today! It was awesome meeting a lot of familiar faces and making even more new friends, finally able to put a face to a few handles here! Thanks to everyone who pitched in and lent a hand with the exhaust install. I realized I brought just enough tools to make the job exceedingly difficult, but not impossible. Thanks to all who helped, the job was a piece of cake! Especially Shawn and Dana for going on a 13mm nut run. That was something I didn't even consider! The Tubi is absolutely insane, almost too much. I have to relearn how to drive to prevent my neighbors from calling the cops on me.

Re: Matt's 2007 RS4
Matt! It was great to meet you and Magellan at Carlisle! For anyone wondering, this car seriously rips!
Whether due to a possibly alcohol-induced generosity, Mage's effective persuasion, or some combination of both, I had the great honor of being handed the keys to this beast. Let me tell you, it was a visceral experience! Seriously, I thought I was a die-hard old-school fanatic, but this machine changed me in an instant. It goads you to push it to the limit, but when you take it there, it feels effortless. After asking Matt's permission, I'll admit to pushing it to faster speeds than I realized, because it's just so planted and stable that it feels like you're doing half of what you really are. I've driven faster cars, but none that mask their capability so well.
Changing the exhaust may have been my favorite experience at Carlisle. From the ever-changing projected delivery time of the seller, to taking a sawzall to RS4 bits, it's something I couldn't have witnessed anywhere else. I might as well contribute the media I have to the lot.

Awesome! Such a good time!
Hey look I'm on TV! and my V8q next to it! It reminds me of when I had open headers and a CAC exhaust on her.
Great meeting you Boston boys! Wicked car.

So glad I made it this year. What fun we had in spite of the rain. It's funny... no one was really deterred much by it, and everyone's cars looked especially clean haha! I really enjoyed meeting some new faces this year, especially Matt and Mage. I will always remember this Carlisle for RS4 exhaust antics, Mage talking about programming at a level beyond my comprehension, Kevin's dad giving out German cookies to alleviate the stress of exhaust installations and the rain, and Matt's maniacal laughing as we bounced off the limiter in the Tubi'd RS4
